I've been watching drones for a loooong time.... dragging my feet along with many others... the Inspire is definitely looking good! Thanks for the great video.... clean and simple
Nice footage of Turner Falls. Glad to see there wasn't much flood damage from all the rain this summer. Now we will have to drive down there to have a look-see for ourselves.
Weird, I am about to buy the duel operator one and have been watching videos and reviews on it all morning and then this pops up. Cannot wait to watch.
DJI has updated the design of the propeller's since this was shot. There was an issue with the blades flying off. If you have the same props as Ryan you need to use prop-locks to latch them in place. The newer design has a flat center, instead of the cone. The new design isn't just for the propellers, but the thread assembly as well.
This is one of your best videos. I've been building and flying RC-Models (Radio Controlled Model Airplanes) since I was 12, and instructing since I was 18.. you'd make a fine instructor. Your flying is excellent, and your aerial-filming is professional. I thought you've used a helicopter for the aerial shots of the Portal Combat. Well done. Keep up the superb work.
I was going to complain about the slow frame rate leading to a jerky presentation. But you know what? That high-speed chatter really does pack in all the necessary details! I take my hat off too you. Thanks!
Good advice throughout although I'd add that in theory to ensure safety not only should you keep Visual Line of Site (VLOS) of the drone you should try and keep site of the ground over which you're flying. If you fly over a group of trees or a building and you can't see the ground, you can't tell whether there's anyone who has entered the area and would potentially be at risk if something went wrong. Using a spotter its radio link (walking talkie) helps get round this issue.
+Sleepless panda Samein France, it's illegal to fly a drone without a license that's about 1 000 €, and since the drone is more than 1 500 € already, No friggin way I can get one of those.
Haha, I was looking at the VHS video yesterday and saw an annotation that said "clue 2". I went to the end where it said to wait until September 17th, I was completely confused as to what was going on. Haha, I'm glad I watched this video.
I recently got to go to a filming of a Roadkill episode, it was quite awesome watching an experienced operator use a drone to capture video on the race track. I believe they had a Phantom and an Inspire. The footage they are able to get by using those is insane.
Thanks Ryan, really helpful tips. I've got a phantom 3 professional and also found it very easy to learn, very stable, and have been very happy with the 4k video too which I've included in some of my vlogs. The advantage it's cheaper that the Inspire 1.
the Inspire is a nice looking Quad but thats about where it ends. there are so many other quads out there at a third of the cost that offer more in the way of autonomous flying modes, like 3D Robotics Solo or specifically the Pixhawk flight controller that allow for follow modes, waypoint programming and Circle modes that limit required input from the pilot. and now with the GoPro Hero 4 black, you can get aerial footage as good as any from the Inspire. if you are looking to get into the profession of flying "Drones" or quads, do practice as that is solid advice from Ryan, trust me its better to crash your 50.00 drone than you 2800.00-3200.00 quad. make sure you also practice tactical flying away from the nervous humans who will see your quad as a SPY and try to shoot it down :P
Some really important notes (for those in the US) -Do not fly over 400 feet AGL. -Learn the difference between AGL and MSL -Do not fly over people or vehicles -Pay attention do where you are flying: Is it near an airport, hospital or police station? Don't fly. You may interfere with actual air traffic -Do not fly near wildfires or major accidents, as emergency aircraft may be in the area -It is illegal to fly out of line of sight -Avoid flying at night. It is hard to see wires and trees -Do not fly in Washington DC, especially near monuments and the Whitehouse Some of you may say 'duh' to these, but people are constantly screwing things up for the rest of us who fly.
I missed the camera related classes in school. I am young, but I know there is others my age who have these skills and are all ready making short films
as a experienced drone pilot i know that safety is very important. please stress safety on the next drone video. A rule that I fly by is that safety always comes before filming, too many people are only worried about the shot and end up in a lot of trouble because of it.
connecting a vr (like samsung gear vr) and having a 360 camera would be so fun, also you would have peripheral vision so you won't be as scared to fly out of sight
Hey Ryan! Can you make an episode about clichés? How to use and not abuse them, when to and when not to, when they are helpful when they are lame, and some tips on how to avoid them. (Mainly in horror movies. Is it even possible to film a horror movie with zero clichés? That would be a great monday challenge...) Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you.
Now all we need is stable drone regulation in the US! Would be cool if you guys addressed that issue in a video and if you are doing anything to help the pro-drone cause.
The only thing that I didn't like was that you didn't talk about setting a home point and that is crucial for the safety of the craft. I do it every time with my preflight checks. Other than that great review, fly safe.
I'm in middle school. And live on the island that the original Jurassic park was filmed. It's small and few places to shop at for anything especially film equipment
Awesome video! We just got an inspire as well! One thing I found out, is to make sure that your frequencies for your RC is set to auto, not custom. Default was set to custom, making it stuck on one channel (so you lose signal if it gets interrupted or drops out). I got about 150 feet away and the drone dipped down, tagged the parking lot then raised back up. No damage to camera thank God, but definitely worried me. What about any wrecks you've experienced? PS - You should have kept in that nice drone buzz nat sound!
+Jason Fisk seriously. due to laws and restrictions on the way contests have to work in the US it's nearly impossible for a small operation to host a global competition. You have to deal with customs and legal restrictions that vary from country to country it's a huge hassle.
+Jason Fisk It's a bummer, but there are legal issues with a world wide contest. It's also a call that Discovery Digital's legal team helped us make. We realize we have a global audience and wish we could do it that big... But the fact is, we are a very small company, so there are going to be things we can't handle just yet. :/
Do any of you have some troubleshooting tips for batteries that do not work coming out of the box? One of my batteries will not charge, and will not show a charge level after pressing the button on the top. Even when I connect it to the charger and leave it for a good amount of time it does nothing!
Please do a video on the legalities of where you are allowed to fly / shoot, and the legalities of selling and using aerial cinematography for commercial purposes. Please and thank you.... any information would be Quack-tastic.
I had an Inspire 1 Pro. It takes great aerial stills, and produces acceptable 4K video, though I wouldn't use the video for jobs. It flew great and was lots of fun. That is, until my dad flew it into the ocean. I recovered it but the camera had been submerged and was destroyed.
IAN 4000 if i were you i probably would have cussed my father out i have the Phantom 4 no way in hell would i let my mother or brothers fly it lol but im sorry to hear that especially being that its a Inspire 1 Pro oh yea i would have cussed my father out
I loved the test shots you got, and it was very nicely paired with the music. This has been probably the episode I've liked the most after "The Best Cheap HD Cameras for Filmmakers" episode (which is how I found Film Riot). I also recently saw you on a Canon How to Film Films video. Good stuff!
Yes you say 'charge' too many times times but ironically @1:19 you show charging a battery and the controller simultaneously which is specifically prohibited in the manual on page 21 due to excessive draw and overheating the charger.
I like the idea of a scavenger hunt but it's not completely fair, because people that live in your time zone will see the next ad much sooner and thus further their hunt earlier, while where I am I see your videos a lot of hours later since your videos are release at that time that I'm asleep. Anyway, good luck to everyone participating!
Do you have to give it back? Mm I want one but she's a pretty penny... Haha Everything looks awesome and you walked us through it really well, Ryan. Great episode.
I am starting to wonder if there is a conspiracy in not giving out the name of the song.... Maybe I'll have check behind me everywhere I walk from now on but here it is..... The song is called Echo Park. It can be licensed through APM Music.
Hi Film Riot :D at 5:20 you mention mini drones and say you talked about them in an older episode. I can't find that episode. If you can give me a hint where to find it I would be really happy, cause you guys really do great videos :D Thanks a lot
Hello there! I'm wondering if I should just go get the Yuneec q500+ 4k or wait till I have the money to get the DJI Inspire, if I get the q500+, is there anything I would missed if I were to go for it instead of getting the DJI Inspire?
+VegTutor The yuneec will have less range for FPV about 400 yards before you lose video, and is a little slower on top speeds. The inspire will have FPV out past 1 mile under similar circumstances. No one wants to go super fast with a camera drone but the faster speed means you can maintain a hover on windier days and return to where you started when flying upwind. The Yuneek is a little bit more stable when hovering and if you buy the carbon fiber props they make about half as much noise as the Inspire. Both are great platforms! They each have advantages over the other. The Yuneek is priced much lower than the Inspire.
I work for the City of Waco and we have been grounded because of our city attorney. She says it's against the law for us to fly. What rules and regulations do you guys know of? I've heard they can't be used for commercial business.
I’ve always wanted one of these babies. I’m halfway tempted to buy one today in October 2022. Course I could also go for the inspire two which is arguably a better drone it’s got the upgrades over the inspire one but it’s way more drawn that I need. I just want some fly around and have fun with. My first drone ever was a fan and three pro and I love that drone. But I did have two flyaway instances where I got the drone back but I know that’s kind of thing wouldn’t even happen today without using three. So it’s a big question for me should I get a more modern drone like an air 2S with all the latest tech or should I go for an inspire one knowing one day I won’t be able to get one.
This is by far my favorite Film Riot intro ever.
+Back to the Future We love you, your channel name and your avatar.
Lol
me to
0:04 Coolest intro ever.
+AustinTheWeird123 That's exactly what I thought.
+AustinTheWeird123 Thanks man! :)
Film Riot You're welcome Haha
That moment when you just got a drone yesterday, and filmriot uploads this the day after :O
Mine should be here within the next hour :) UPS is dropping it off, phantom 3 professional
+Antony Alvarez Did you get it yet?
+Antony Alvarez Did you get it yet?
+FoxTailWhipz +UltronHacker00 yes! I practiced on the flight simulator for 30 minutes and am going to take it out tomorrow before noon.
Antony Alvarez Sweet you should make a video of it
I've been watching drones for a loooong time.... dragging my feet along with many others... the Inspire is definitely looking good! Thanks for the great video.... clean and simple

What's the worst crash you've had.

The intro was soooo amazingly awesome today
Fuck this in Slovakia you have to pay 600 freakin' € to legaly use drone.
+Sleepless panda Samein France, it's illegal to fly a drone without a license that's about 1 000 €, and since the drone is more than 1 500 € already, No friggin way I can get one of those.
+Sleepless panda its only illegal if you get caught xD
+Sleepless panda And 3000 € to buy it :D
just fly a multirotor instead then.
+Sleepless panda wow that sucks :(
Great video mate, thumbs up. Cheers from the IGY Simpson Bay Marina, Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
that opening shot was impressive, very impressive, well done
Gotta say that I love the new visual feel of Film Riot.
Wow. The ending movie quote. I just finished watching Mission Impossible.
Haha, I was looking at the VHS video yesterday and saw an annotation that said "clue 2". I went to the end where it said to wait until September 17th, I was completely confused as to what was going on. Haha, I'm glad I watched this video.

Ryan, what was the song used during the Inspire footage? I assume it's royalty free but I'm curious what it's called and what service you got it from.
+Jacob Carlson (Check Out Jacob) Agreed, I'd love to know. Sounds like M83.
+Jacob Carlson (Check Out Jacob) Yes! Song please!
+Jacob Carlson (Check Out Jacob) The song is called Echo Park. It can be licensed through APM Music.
+Scott Balkum I can't find it
+GabriuxFilms Use their search tool. Search for the track name.
Damn this guy talked so fast and smooth...impressive
That is an amazingly faster than quicksilver dodging the bullet, intro to a blog video from Ryan.

still my favorite drone. high coolness factor and so stable.
I missed the camera related classes in school. I am young, but I know there is others my age who have these skills and are all ready making short films
I'd love to have one. But I'll probably get a practice drone first
Best drone ever on the best channel ever! How good can it get!?
Ryan plz bring back the fillm state!

Really good, down & dirty, quick start overview.
Film Riot is only getting better and better :)
Calibrating that thing is like doing the Peter Panda Dance. "Good night daddy".
This is super fun. September 17, here we come!

Greetings froh Germany :)
Great video! Loved how fast you went through the setup! Solid looking drone footage.

I bought a parrot Bebop and the footage is awesome. not 4k mind you but pretty good.
can you do a tutorial on some post production that makes the video look better. like color correction and all that. thanks! i love what you guys do
I had an Inspire 1 Pro. It takes great aerial stills, and produces acceptable 4K video, though I wouldn't use the video for jobs. It flew great and was lots of fun. That is, until my dad flew it into the ocean. I recovered it but the camera had been submerged and was destroyed.

Drone Footage cut together with epic music...nothin' better
A bunch of actual friggin satellites at your disposal. How cool is that.
still not intercept
+Lupo2punto0 Andrew is working on star wars episode 7 at bad robot.. so yeah, not much time I suppose.
+Willem Probst I know that but...I wanted to remind Ryan that Intercept should not be forgot
Yeah... I think everyone is waiting. I'm checking youtube daily haha :D
+Willem Probst Just kidding, funny to see you out here ;)

Hey Ryan! Can you do a slow motion bullet dodge like the one in the matrix?
If I would have known you were at turner falls I definitely would have photo bombed. Im like 1hr away from it.
Yes you say 'charge' too many times times but ironically @1:19 you show charging a battery and the controller simultaneously which is specifically prohibited in the manual on page 21 due to excessive draw and overheating the charger.
Damn thats a cool landscape, it would be perfect for my upcoming warshort film. Unlucky enough i'm from sweden
So dang cool at 1:56!
Nice, I have the Phantom 2 with a zen use h4 gimbal and go pro hero 4
I like the idea of a scavenger hunt but it's not completely fair, because people that live in your time zone will see the next ad much sooner and thus further their hunt earlier, while where I am I see your videos a lot of hours later since your videos are release at that time that I'm asleep. Man, I can't believe how steady that thing is
+mussonman It has a motorized gimbal stabilizer.
Do you have to give it back? Mm I want one but she's a pretty penny... Haha Everything looks awesome and you walked us through it really well, Ryan. Great episode.
on the 0:05 i see your antennas are not in good position , so im not surprised if you crashed or got weak signals warning !
the charger alone is about 100 buckys! Oo i´ll wait a few years till prices drop ;)
I am starting to wonder if there is a conspiracy in not giving out the name of the song.... Maybe I'll have check behind me everywhere I walk from now on but here it is..... The song is called Echo Park. It can be licensed through APM Music.
Oh what is the music called during the drone test?
can anyone tell me the name of the small drone they used to practice with?
Just got a phantom 3 pro and it is pretty much the exact same. Beside s the 360 camera
check out the dji spreading wings, can fit a dslr on there
wow, awesome shots :) wish the drones wouldn't be that expensive
Hi Film Riot :D
at 5:20 you mention mini drones and say you talked about them in an older episode. I can't find that episode.
If you can give me a hint where to find it I would be really happy, cause you guys really do great videos :D
Thanks a lot
Purely awesome, wish I could finance an Inspire 1. :)
Hi, Can you give us basic idea on camera hook-up.How to take the shoots from top angle bottom angle and so on.
Hello there! I'm wondering if I should just go get the Yuneec q500+ 4k or wait till I have the money to get the DJI Inspire, if I get the q500+, is there anything I would missed if I were to go for it instead of getting the DJI Inspire?

OMG guys how did you get "Dreamin' feeling" so soft at 8min ? The only one I know is the hardcore one from DJ Noriken ! @film Riot
I love my inspire 1!
That thing looks badass
I received a motor overload/ low circuit voltage warning. Is my Inspire 1 fried or will it come back on?
I really liked the idea of the scavenger hunt
but I'm not in us
I hope next time it will be international
Nice! I have an online film festival coming soon for all new filmmakers.
Hows the video connectivity to the phone? I've seen many cases on youtube where it video stream lags more than enough when live flying.
Ok no more progo curvey lens thingy and footage looks beautiful.....BUT will it churn BUTTER! We shall see! OH see we shall!
Do you know or have you heard anything about the update for DJI GO to implement the Point of Interest and Follow etc?
I gotta say that intro is pretty spiffy ryan.
why not use a Q500+ typhoon 4k? It films in 4K, GPS, Altimeter. And cooperates with intel
I have watched all of your videos.
I am missing those good old episodes with an effect and a sketch...
I have a Phantom 2 and GoPro3+ Black. Cheaper and still pretty awesome.
Beautiful shots, Ryan. Can you please tell me the name of the music that is playing during the drone shots starting at 7:51 ? Thanks
I think it is non copyright. Shazam doesn't recognise it...
+Ryan van der Velde lol.. I also tried Shazaming it with no success. thanks
Thanks for the review, Film Riot! But why it have to be that much expensive?! :D
Great work Ryan can you review the Phantom 3 Pro vs. inspire in your opinion and if have any news about the FAA regulations again great work my friend
I'm seeing a kind of digital look coming from the inspire, is there any way to turn off in camera sharpening?
You actually OWN a drone now? Awesome. Do you also still have the C100, as well?
Great Video! :) Would really like to use an Inspire.. but its to expensive for me ;(
I really felt like I was watching a tv show when that intro came on LoL
