  • The German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE) and the German Electrical and Digital Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI) jointly hosted the MICROELECTRONICS FOR FUTURE summit for the first time. The main topic of the event on November 8, 2022 at the Futurium in Berlin was quantum technology. The Summit was the follow-up event for the Microelectronics Symposium. Traditionally, the presidents of both associations always opened the event - and this time was no exception. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Armin Schnettler, who became deputy VDE president on January 1, 2023, and Dr.-Ing. Gunther Kegel welcomed experts from industry, science and politics. "We talked about quantum computing as well as nanometer structures and about energy systems that cannot be optimized at all without microelectronics," Schnettler said of the speakers' contributions. In addition to investments in the semiconductor sector, however, all participants at the summit agreed that capable talent in the field of electrical engineering is also needed to meet the demand for personnel in the semiconductor industry. In any case, Dr.-Ing. Kegel very much hopes "that this is an event that we will now repeat every year."
