Depending on the size of the balloon,or even the shape, it usually takes around 20 minutes for this sized balloon to be fully inflated. Special Shapes take a lot longer.
Pity about the total lack of safety of the ground crew, and for the onlookers and didnt see the pilot putting on a safety harness as legaly required. No saftey cones out in case of fire and to keep the public back,and the ground crew between the teather vehicle and the basket and impropper footware. just wait until that basket touches down on his foot. I'm also guesing the safety briefing for the passangers was before the inflation becaus it's too late when their in the air. I wonder if Virgin ever actually review this type of footage. Bet they would if there was an accident so they could blame the pilot.
You are talking nonsense. You can clearly see the pilot attach his pilot harness @ 10:50 . The public are kept well back and constantly monitored by the 2nd crew, who you see leaning on the front of the red truck at the start of the video. The ground crew helping with the balloon is stood to the far end of the basket which is 4.2m long and attached to the vehicle with 4 metres restraint ropes so there is a a huge safety zone for him to work in, he's also wearing a pair of steel toe-cap trainers. The safety briefing by the pilot with all the passengers is always before the inflation starts and therefore wasn't filmed. Don't comment negatively on something for which you obviously have no knowledge or experience.

As a matter of interest I do know what I'm talking about as being involved in ballooning commercially and privately and also in competition ballooning having represented my country at the Worlds Ballooning Championships as well as other competitions to qualify in the championships. I've also written and been published in the Arostat magazine for balloonists and aeroships enthusiasts. So I think do know what I'm talking about and your quite right James, yes I'm a fuss pot. Because my passangers saftey is paramount. Which is why I treat your comments with the contempt it deserves. Balloons are a registered aircraft and require a pilots license which are not given away in cornflake boxes, are earned after extensive exams and training flights. And ideally a well trained crew to help launch and recover. I have flown in the southern Hemisphere as well as the northen, so you know what. Yes I do think I know what I'm talking about.

All I can say about this scenario is that the pilot could of gave a passenger briefing before the video was taken, as for the Landrover with the basket tethered cones would have been a good idea to created a protective perimeter around the vehicle. I in fact wanted to get my pilots license but never seen it through (massive regret) I didn’t mean to be an A-hole. Piss poor performance is the only outcome from piss poor planning.
