- You will never live in this apartment because it was rented on Airbnb. We demand a solution to the crisis from the municipality because no city is without us.
This notice was hung on the door of an apartment in the city. That notice then became a Facebook post, leading to a debate about Airbnb's presence in the city.
In today's video, we will discuss Airbnb and its global consequences, how municipalities are dealing with it, and the situation in Israel.

Thank you so much to doing both English and Hebrew subtitles. It helps so much!! Thank you thank you thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for the video. My answers to some of the questions asked in it: "Why does she have to live in Tel Aviv?". Turns out, also people who make your coffee or scan your groceries at the supermarket have to live somewhere. And it's understandable if people can't spend hours of their day commuting(which can be extremely stressful too). I wish folks redirected these questions to the tourists who use this "service", like "If you can't afford a hotel/hostel/pension, why don't you look for a cheaper holiday somewhere else?" The right to have a roof over your head should weight heavier than the "right" to have an "authentic", cheap holiday at the expense of local communities."It's private property, the owners can do with their flats whatever they want". No, they can't. Owning property entails social responsibility and AirBnB creates just a few winners while causing a huge social damage. What some call "freedom" is hurting many people. And you can't compare a flat with a car in this situation, for 289648736486354 reasons. Finally, a quote that summarizes what I think about the housing crisis in big cities: “My hot take on “15 minute cities” is if you can get to the coffee shop within fifteen minutes, but the barista who makes your drink can’t afford to live closer than a half-hour away, then you live in a theme park.” - Gareth Klieber
Embedded bilingual subtitles work much better.
Your videos are so helpful and improving my Hebrew. Full disclosure, I have made my living from Airbnb for years. I am curious to know when Heli travels if she ever uses Airbnb. I know this is a complex issue but generally I think supporting free market that self regulates is always best in the end. I know that Israel has socialist leanings but interfering with property owner rights is too communistic for me.
This has been a problem in Wales, also. Thank you for talking about this important topic. The cost of living has gotten out of control all over due to holiday lets, and other problems. Affordable, decent housing is a basic need.
Great video and great topic. Thank you very much Doron for this informative conversation.
awesome!!
Thanks Ely😊
I love your show and I'm learning a lot from it so thank you
Hi Rubin,
Nice to here😊
So they can pay
the mortgage.
One of my goals in life is to get land in israel maybe through the land lottery
😁
This would be a cool video topic for the channel
Merci !
Thank you for just saying bye instead of the other thing ... :)
haha why? Yalla bye!
could you put the points of the vowels to the words, to make it easier to read?
I learned Hebrew without the niqqud so I actually prefer to see it without the niqqud. They're saying the words along with the subtitles.

Live in a small town and go on the bus. 😉 Sometimes an apartment is divided in half and 2 families live there. The doors are inside the doorway and made to 2 doorways but the address is one.
The question alone - why do you have to live in Tel Aviv - is so ignorant. Cities are not laid out for commerce and visitors alone, and the people who work there have basic needs like housing. Jeez. Somebody has to stir the cocktails for the party folks. We've had quarters like Kreuzberg in Berlin which have been turned into party zones day and night through airbnb. Now they have established some regulations. You need a permit from the district to rent out your rooms or whole apartments via airbnb. But I have no idea if the new regulations are efficient. All I know is Kreuzberg is still a hipster disneyland.
