Careful with this setup though. It's easy to assume the track you're working on on the right is the same as the channel showing on the left. But unless the track is actually selected in the TCP, they won't be the same. Editing a track in the TCP does not automatically select it. So don't go tweaking on the mixer channel on the left without checking it's actually the right one.
Great warning. This can help a bit in some situations though : imgur.com/n3s8ZcM And maybe there is a way to auto-select the track your cursor is currently working on (even when you're working on the items parts of this track) ? I don't know.
Fantastic! Just a few days ago I discovered your Side Chain Mixer for an older version of Reaper. I made it work in 6.13, and presto, 2 days later I'm watching an even better version that takes advantage of Reaper's latest features. Bravo Kenny!
It's a shame that in Reaper you can have only 1 mixer opened. I have 2 monitors and I have my mixer opened on my 2nd screen. But I would love to have side mixer and big floating mixer opened at the same time (Cubase behavior). The video starts with 2 mixers opened so now after I watched the video I'm still dissapointed that this feature is not implemented to Reaper to this day. I have installed the HeDa script and the track inspector but it just doesn't look great. I don't want it to be necessarily thicker but if you try to narrow it down the text and buttons overlaps and it's unusable to work with. But still, I love Reaper more than anything.
Yup, Kenny has a video from years ago on screensets and I've been using the side mixer since! This video shows the newer features with docking FX in the mix track. Super cool.
It should be noted that (at least on my Linux computer), this trick only works if the mixer doesn't show the master. If it does, the side mixer will always show the master only, no matter which track is selected.
I wanted to use that left one-track view for mixer but unfortunately having folders increases the track width slightly (due to the way they draw icon) and it stops looking so neat.
Thank you for the video! I already knew that this window arrange is available, but I was kind of afraid to ruin something. Haven't used any DAW with switching layout feature before ) But Reaper works great, can't imagine switching back to any other DAW after seeing this. (Can't be unseen)))
This is what I was looking for, but how to get the track selection stay in the one mixer channel ? I'm newbie. My sections are changing to the other mixer channels.
Hi Kenny - thanks for this - very helpful video as always . Could you answer a question, in the left & and floating mixer view you can see the FX inserts etc but in the bottom mixer docked view you don't. I have been trying to figure out how to do that - can you help? Thanks
I've been using this method exclusively since I discovered one of your older videos covering this same topic. Really helps when mixing. One question Kenny. If you are selecting different tracks to set the levels and you click on the volume knob of a different track, the currently selected track doesn't change. Is their a setting for this in preferences? It would be great if you could click any wheres on the track to select it. It's small thing but the volume knob is part of the TCP. Thanks Eric
I have an issue when i have closed folders in the mixer, when i go to my "side mixer screenset" i only see the folders , because they are closed. The problem is that i couldn't make a successful custom action because there is no action for "Mixer: show children of selected folders" . There is the action called "Mixer: Toggle Show/hide children of selected folders" but the problem with that action is that, if the folders are not closed in the mixer, they get closed because the action is Toggle. Please i need a solution ! Thanks!
I'd like to take advantage of the fact that only one track is visible at the time and have a wider MCP layout so that I can see the full plugin name in the inserts. But if I set the zoom at 150% everything is bigger, including the fonts. Is there any way to do a wide layout like in version 5?
@@REAPERMania I'm using 6, I want the "wide" track layout from 5. Sorry if I wasn't clear! I'd like more horizontal space to see the complete vst names, but "zoom" on 6 wont fix that, as it increases the font size as well.
is there perhaps a way to drag the master track on the right side of the screen? In that i could have the one channel side mixer on the left like you showed and the master track all the way to the right of the screen. Great video btw,as always
I keep see'ing the master track, even when I disable from (mixer right click)-master track-show show in mixer...it keeps coming back when I close and open reaper again
It sounds like someone is holding a gun to your head and telling you that if you use more than 5 words per minute they'll pull the trigger. but each track. is set up. different. and the piano. looks like this.

How do you even discover those things? I'm literraly shocked. Thanks a lot, Kenny!
Holy jeez, I've finally beaten you to the punch! I've been doing this for a few months, now. It's my favorite way to work.
Rodulf no you haven’t Kenny was doing this years ago
Yup, Kenny has a video from years ago on screensets and I've been using the side mixer since! This video shows the newer features with docking FX in the mix track. Super cool.
Well...I THOUGHT I was first....
Kenny G showed this technique a long time ago on Mixing Jazz with REAPER.
Thanks a lot Kenny!

Same in mac btw (really wish it was a toggle because it happens regardless of which side the master track is on)
this is why i have 3 monitors!

I thought this was so cool. And then you show us screen sets. Brain melts.
Yup I thought of this 3 years ago... never really got it working properly

I did everything but when I choose a track, it doesn't appear on the side, it just stays on the first track.

Why aren't you using 6? You can do this with any layout but you just want all the tracks to be the same width

Try the theme editor? I briefly saw it in this video and I'm definitely going to tweak the track tracking views.

Right click on the Master, "Show in Docker", drag where you want. I have mine on the right side, works great.
Is there a way to get both side mixer and floating mixer?
Use Heda Track Inspector for your mixer strip!

This doesn’t work with folders.
Hey there. My pin icon for FX vanished lol
Is there anyway I can fix it?
