- U.S. Army Paratroopers assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade conduct airborne jump at Aviano Air Base in preparation for airborne operation onto Juliet Drop Zone in Italy. Army brat here. Most of my life spent on bases, especially Germany. But my pops was good at taking my sister and me around all of Europe to see things. Once we went to Camp Darby in Italy, as part of a vacation, memories...the valley these boys are jumping in reminds me of the general area.

i don't recall where my air jumps were, but I started completing them when I was like 12; maybe 14.
I had a three year tour in Vicenza wayyyyyy back in 1983 to 1986. Then, these guys were from the 4/325 ABCT. Outstanding soldiers for sure!!!

Imagine being a bird and having a happy day flapping around and seeing the plane above you.. then all these little things come out of it.. you would for sure think.. did that big ass bird just sh*t all over me and my neighborhood?? In all seriousness I have absolute respect for the people who do this line of work and are willing to risk and give up their lives for the people and countries they care about!!

Equipment that is (not common to all) as we say in the military. It means Equipment that all soldiers deploy with. So there may be additional radios, MOPP Equipment, extra ammo etc.

Why do they use this design of parachute? Seems like they fall way too fast. I bet loads of people break legs and ankles etc.

Your welcome. That's 152 meters. This height allows for emergency chute deployment if needed. This height minimizes scatter and time to ground.

Wallace Wood most practice jumps are around 1200 to 2000 feet. We jumped into Grenada at around 400 give or take. Swear felt like chute opened and no air time.
