    The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is an Indian government ministry charged with health policy in India.
    It is also responsible for all government programs relating to family planning in India.

    DHR was created in 2007 and became functional for the promotion of research.
    The Department of AYUSH no more falls under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it was elevated to the Ministry of AYUSH with effect 9 November 2014.

    - It was set up by a presidential order on 9 th Aug 1952 under article 263 of the Indian Constitution to provide support and advice to the Department of Health on policy formulation.

    1. Making Plans & policy for development of health in the entire Nation & promotion of facilities for training & research.
    2. Make proposal for Legislation in areas of medicine and Public health.
    3. Recommendations to Central govt. for providing grants-in aids and financial assistance to state Govts. for medical services
    4. Review the activities of states in terms of grants.
    5. Promoting & Maintaining co-operation between Centre and States.
    6. Preparing draft by considering policies and recommendations related to medical care, environment, nutrition and medical education.
