I made a cover for this beautiful classic 4 years ago, and though about doing it again with the mics, and the "Glider Capo" I received as a gift from my dear friend from California, which suits perfectly for this song :)

If you’re interested in more epic capo shifts, watch this video of Harry Chapin performing “30,000 Pounds of Bananas” solo on his guitar back in the ‘70s. There’s a bunch of key changes, and he did it with a capo that was pretty much just a band placed around the neck of the guitar. Oh, and the tempo gets faster and faster, too.

He wrote it about a man who was carrying a load of bananas in a semi truck when his brakes failed on a hill in Scranton, Pennsylvania; the driver ended up dying in the resulting crash. In the live versions like this one, he would tell stories about trying to come up with the final verse and presenting them to his brothers (who were a part of his touring band) for their opinion, and each time they’d respond, “Harry, it sucks.” Then he’d go into performing the actual final verse (which is based off of how he actually learned about the story of the accident: from an old man in Scranton).
I’d love to see if Yoni could tackle the guitar work on this one; it was probably one of the most challenging to play in Harry’s entire catalog. He died in a car accident possibly caused by a heart attack in the early ‘80s, but he left behind a unique catalog of songs and a legacy for being a humanitarian and activist fighting to ending hunger and food insecurity long before food insecurity was considered a concept.
(Seriously, I think Yoni would have fun trying to figure out how to play this song as well as Harry did!)

I'm a simple man: whenever Yoni posts a cover, I blindly like it bc certainly it's worthy watching and listening closely to a greatly well written interpretation sumerizing into a unique masterpiece...
