I grew up running 256 rakes behind narrow front Oliver 770s. Will never forget those days with my Grandpa! Current me still wants to run the rollabar rakes but the other part of me says to run an 8 wheel rake for time saving

Thx for sharing. Another pro for this rake: you can use it behind your quad ;-)

build a bracket onto it so you can put a Hydro cylinder on it. done it with mine to be able to adjust height on the fly when in uneven fields. almost quit losing tines completely after that. well worth the time and few dollars it took to do it.

4.5 inches of rain...well that will keep things well watered for a while.

We have a NH 256 rake with the rubber mounted teeth our rake has the same issue with bending outside teeth especially if it catches the side of a water way, I found that if you take the bent tooth of and put it in a vice you can straiten them right out. Joe's machinery is about 10 miles away from my farm, they are a Amish owned business.

Joe machine is good ole Lancaster country Amish. Best place to get aftermarket new holland parts.

They both have advantages, we use an 8 foot in tight spots and along the edges of the woods and the wheel rake in wide open.

Ever think about closing in the shop/work area in the corner? I think it would be a little nicer to have a heated area to go into plus could make more organization and storage. Even could use area on top of it for storage. Not much in materials to do it. I have watched hundreds of Ryan’s and yours videos and I think about that often. I’m sure you thought of it but just put it out there!

The 258 New Holland rake is what I used as a kid growing up. I absolutely loved it, low maintenance and easy to use. Keep up the good work, updates and videos. God Bless You and your Family!!

Hey Travis, Now I hear you complaining about 4 inches of rain and washing out drive ways. Where I live here in Florida, We got 12 1 1/2 " in 2 days, Granted we have a lot of sandy soil in some areas, Here at our place, Not so much. Kind of a sandy/clay/top soil dirt. We live on a one lane dirt road which washes out more than your water ways. And we have what they call down here Water Oak, Yes there Oak Trees, But when you cut into them with a Chain Saw they pour out water like water going over Niagara Falls. And when they get full of water, they like to come crashing down for no apparent reason.
Enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing.

I saw someone pulling a rollerbar rake behind a side by side the other day up here. I remember you joking about putting it behind the four wheeler when you got the New Holland and was surprised to see it in person.

  • @daleley7645

Thanks for the video. The wider rake matches with a wider swath from the discbine. I imagine when your Grandpa bought the 256 he cut with a 7 or 9 foot haybine.

The spring style teeth have been on my grandpas new idea rake for probably 30 years. Of course some have been put on. Only thing I hate about them is like you said they bend back

Hey thanks for your input about the hay teeth Travis. I'm fixing up hay rake. And one that it needs is hay teeth. I thought the metal hay teeth would be better and last a long time. But I hear that rubber hay teeth are Created not equal. For example Tractor supply vs John Deere.

I saw your rake in one of your brothers videos and he pulled it with a 4 wheeler. It did great then. I can only imagine that it will be a valuable tool no matter how you employ it. Nice to see you are keeping it in shape and giving it care it needs.
Thanks for sharing again👍. Happy subscriber 😊!

That is the kind of rake that I got to rake with as a kid. Only difference is the one I used was a John Deere. I was pretty young and my uncle let me rake hay. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. Thanks for the update and video Travis!!

Thanks for the video Travis as a 65 year old retired farmer the 256 New Holland was all I ever used and I used the metal teeth and did not have a problem with excess breakage. For my operation which was a lot rolling ground it suited my needs, in comparison to you guys I covered very little ground.

We use to have a bar rake IH brand ground driven two wheels. Didn’t get used a lot sat in the shed most of the time but when need brought it out oil the chain an grease check the teeth which it was steel an rubber mounted very similar to your replacement parts.

    258 dolley rakes are great
Before that we had a john deere 640 dolley rake with a single front wheel. No jack and doesn't crawl up your rear wheel on tight turns

A question....Are any of the different types of rake teeth that you use on the rake, able to be straightened back to normal shape in a vise after they have been bent??? Or does that cause them to completely break off???
