I have a pair of 990 V5. Stupid comfortable. Great craftsmanship and materials. This is how sneakers should be built. They also support American jobs. We complain all the time we want these things in ours shoes. Vote with your money. The made in USA line from New Balance wont disappoint.

At that price, there's Air Zoom BB NXT which destroys every single new balance model combined. New balances are OK but not comfortable compared to the competition.
Materials are overrated. Any shoe with leather is shit tier. There is a reason why the best shoes do not use leather.
I also have a pair and they’ve held up for like three years. Great shoe! Especially for plantar fasciitis and people with foot issues!
I'm a native Washingtonian, and in DC, New Balances have been a staple in my city my entire life. I'm 37, by the way. I love how across the country these days, everybody is getting hip to New Balance. On behalf of ALL of us who grew up with an affinity for these shoes, who ya'll crowned for wearing "old man shoes," we would like to say, "YA'LL LATE! But welcome to the party!" 😂 Now give us our props for having exquisite taste in both style and comfort! I'm still tryna get used to seeing ya'll out of towners wearing our classic, traditional kicks..
The 990s are BIG in the DC/ DMV area. Super comfortable and they match with everything. They're a great everyday shoe.

At 34, I appreciate New Balances…so much lol I’m big on comfort and love the unique designs along with the premium materials/technology. and attention to QC. Not into this new silhouette so much yet, but thanks for featuring them!
This was my most anticipated sneaker of the year. Funny how 990s are considered dad or grandpa shoes outside the DMV. Also, I don't think they have that stigma outside of the US. Anyway, I can't wait for the collabs for this model.

It’s funny, they told me I looked like a dad with my navy v5 2 years ago and now everyone in the department wears new balance. California caught on late.
They are coming fast and heavy I work for a boutique and help the owner with the buying. Their 2023 line up is out of this world get ready for 530’s, 9060, 1906, boots, etc new balance is making a push for the #1 spot
I just bought these last week and love them. I have 6 pair of NB and these are my favorite. Very comfortable and to me depending on how you style them they don’t look grandpa ish. My wife and kids disagree heavily lol. They say I look like a grandpa for sure but I love them. Toe down look is awesome, comfort incredible. I love the white and grey together

Copped these randomly on a trip and did about 3 miles per day in them during the weekend trip - most comfortable shoe to date - yes, they're very grandpa - this is why fits have to be extra fly to pull these kicks off well!

Me being from the DMV, 1 side of my family only wear NBs, the 993s is my favorite but I bought the 990v5s and besides the weight, I love em 💯💯💯💯
A shoe that complete it’s purpose without the name and hype it’s up to the person wearing it to pull it off and make it look good….doesn’t matter what u wear if your really a vibe 💯

Love the video! I’ve been watching your channel since the Kobe 7 first released when I was in middle school. (You were nightwing back then, lol). As I’ve grown older, gotten married and now have a 1 month old baby boy, I’ve found a sudden love for new balances. (I know, it’s funny, dad shoes since I’m a dad now.) My favorite models are the 990v3 & the 2002r. It would be awesome to see more new balance content on your channel!!! Again, love the videos man.

Haven’t tried a new balance yet but they aren’t big in Cali. Spent some time on the east coast and geez, everyone rocked new balance. Guess it’s worth trying for this dad. Keep grindin’!!!!
Start off with the 57/40, you can find a ton of models for under $100
Great video, my favorite New Balance shoe is probably the 2002R or the 57/40. Never had an issue with either of them.
I wore the 990 V3 for 6 years and they were amazing and still holding strong. Will upgrade to the V6 in a week 👍
Just so you’re aware, the 990v2 is one of the most narrow NB shoes and it’s essential to size up on those because the toe box will mess your toes up. It’s also just not that comfortable under foot. If you want comfort, look into the 990v3, v4, v5, and v6. Also look into the 992 and 993s.

A DC staple, 7 mos ago he never had a pair now we're getting reviews. Way to level up slim, great to have you on board!!! Never heard them referred to as grandpa or dad shoes until you made these comments.
DMV STAND UP!!!! I’m from Maryland and when I seen these ready drop on the site I was at work tryna get signal the minute of release best 990 in my humble opinion but I’m only 24 so the older models don’t have much nostalgia with me lol.
I prefer the aesthetics of tha V5. I never had NB though. I have always been a 3 stripes guy but the quality of NBs are really getting into me.
I dig this design and paneling.
The 990’s are fresh to me. A grey pair of New Balance are must have. At least one pair. The 990’s “grandpa shoe” esthetic is 👍🏼. I dress like a middle aged guy with steez so, these are 👍🏼.
Haven't seen much of the v6 yet but the v5's were a hit in DC and B-more. I'm assuming these will start to pick up once people run through the v5's. I'm not a huge fan of these but I felt the same way about the v5’s and those were huge so shows what I know.
I feel like the 990s and New Balance in general are actually kinda popular here in Europe. Maybe not among teenagers and definitely not on the scale of Nike, Jordan and Adidas but you see them quite frequently.

I think the V5s look a lot better, but these might be more comfortable. Will try to grab a pair to find out.
1/2 size down and if you got a wide foot just get them in wide or extra wide they do stretch out. Cant wait to see the other colors I need a all black pair!

Best grandpa shoes ever!!!! The only ones I don’t like are the V2s, just not for me, but the rest are brilliant.
They look like they basically just stitched a modern 990 upper onto one of their running shoe midsoles. Looks pretty different. May pick one up when better colorways drop.
Love the new balance 990s, 550s, 2002s, and 1906s.
These feel like a step of from the v5s imo but still love the v3s.
How’s the sizing?
I love NBs since I tried 990v4 on my feet. Now I've got 990,991,992 but I must say 990v5 are the most comfy and roomy, 991 are tougher though!
I am interested to see what they would look like in different color ways, but I know this line usually just goes grey and white right?
I've always taken the grey to be the dad shoe - the white with navy chunky NBs are the grandpa/Corvette driver shoes.

I have some 992’s and I love them
While Nike and Adidas make the softest cushions on foot, New Balance are much more comfortable because of the shape, arch support, and the right cushion firmness. If you wear softer cushions like Boost, you run the risk of fallen arches and plantar fasciitis, many sneakerheads and consumers fail to realize it until it is too late. I use the 574 as my daily and never had any issues until I started wearing Adidas 350s.
Not my cup of tea but I'm hear to learn something new , keep them rolling out.

Subtly cool with a little bit of class. Plus I'm a Dad, so.... In all seriousness, very comfortable and top quality. The fuelcell foam midsole is legit.
Of all the shoes that I want, 990s is an unattainable one for me as they don’t ship to India. Great video by the way.
I like the previous 990s....but these are slowly growing on me. The all grey is classic. I think a few different colorways will make most people budge.

Alright! New Balance nerd incoming! So, the 990vX line is a very interesting line because each version has a cult following, even if many may or may not dislike one version. The V1 is widely known as the least popular because it has such similar design languages to the 574, 577, etc for a higher price… and they do not have ENCAP, Abzorb, or FuelCell, so it’s a very firm ride. The V2s, however, do have Abzorb but have a weird midsole tapering where as you go to the forefoot it’s very thin, so you barely feel any cushion (as the heel also requires break-in time). I am *almost* sure that you were wearing V2s, and I say that not only because it’s on the firmer side, but probably because the V2s have a HEAVY taper on the upper and that narrowness going toward the toebox kills some people’s feet (even if you have the correct size). The V3-V5 have ENCAP, with a heavy agreement that the ENCAP gets better with each iteration. The V3 is colloquially known as the most popular out of the 1-5, and the V6 obviously departs from that. I am a fan of V1-V6, and am pretty excited to feel the new combination of FuelCell and ENCAP as a long-run casual shoe. The V1-V5 are not the plush, comfortable, pillowy sneaker. They are neutral, bouncy shoes that rarely ever hurt your feet (if not, never) after a long day’s of walking. In some weird way, I like to say they are a Jordan Fan’s next stage in sneakerdom. Because if you like JB’s comfort (which realistically is not the most comfortable - aside from the 12s and 13s) then you’d love NB! But alas, as we know, some people are traditional and prefer JB, Nike, even adidas. And I respect it, as a 1s fan and Continental fan here! But if you are this person wanting to try NB, give the 990 model a shot. Try the v3 or v5 first (widely available in stores, so try them on), and then explore the world of NB! I will also say, that the “newer” 2002r is also a good option to start your NB journey with. I didn’t recommend that one first, because some people consider it to be narrower than the 990 (even as non-wide footer) so please try it on first. Sorry, talk a lot.
New Balance is 🔥 now. miUSA is hella expensive and sought after outside the US too.

We all see there's a lot of buzz in the Yeezys and the Jordans models. Well that's understand something the majority of Nike and Adidas business are in the sneakers that are under $100. That's where they make the bulk of their money not in the hypebeast stuff

Did a lot of people choose the narrow width on purpose to have a sleeker look? All sizes were pretty much sold out, but the regular width sizes are still plentiful. 😮

So 990 V1 is for active runners and V5 would be someone from V1 but grows old. And V6 would be for someone who loves V5 but going to be a grandpa soon. Tho it is comfy due to Fuelcell. Love the shoes and your review 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

As someone who grew up 40 min. outside Hershey, it's Twizzlers all the way! Red Vines taste like chewy cough syrup to me. Not hatin', just not liking. 😄

Chris the 990V2s you mentioned you tried earlier are the least comfortable 990s before the V1s by far. You have to try 990v3 and up to get that comfort people talk about
990s last me a month longer than Brooks GTS. Brooks 3 months on concrete floors. 990s wore them up to 6.
There are very strict rules for Made in USA and Assembled in USA. Those are made in the USA. They look fantastic and they are sold out here in Hong Kong. Your grandpa would look on point in Asia.
992’s are the best nb’s for me
Read one review that stated the shoe’s “tongue” was too long and rubbed the top of the ankle…you can obviously see it is longer than the 990v5…

@3:00 , it probably was the V2s because those are uncomfortable! The V3s took about 10 wears to break in. The v5s were super comfortable straight out the box. The V6s I Don’t like because of the midsole.. I feel they’re getting chunkier but they aren’t bad. I’ll stick to the v5s
I just grabbed a pair of the 9060s they're sssso cozy. The 550s.. not a fan of.
I think NB really messed up with the 990 v6 they look very grandpa like. The v5s were so clean and simple and looked modern even with the "dad shoe" stigma but these look like they were straight up designed for old people
