    I have done the same thing with baby deer and turkey nests, I have learned that once you uncover a turkey nest a predator
    will eat the eggs and the turkey, if it tries to protect it. Coincidentally I have the same model and size tractor that you have, lol.

    Have you ever thought of using a sickle bar mower? Back in my youth we mowed about twenty acres of hay in one day. Just a thought.
    Also, we never had nice music playing while we mowed, only the sound of the tractor and the sickle bar whirring. Good video

      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před 7 lety

      So...considered it.....right now we are looking for some good used hay making equipment for the fall or next spring...notably a disc mower or discbine.....seems like a shame to let all that good grass grow up and get mowed down when I could be making some $$$$$

    Thanks for the insights. Have you thought of using the drone to scout the pasture you are about to cut to avoid those types of accidents?
    Once again thanks and keep doing the right thing.
    Whoooooo!!!!!

    SRF. You are living my dream! Thanks for the beautiful video. Yes, some guys sit in an office all day staring out the window wishing they were mowing hay on a sweet JD tractor, with soothing music playing blissfully in the background! Maybe one day!! Keep posting!

    Just beautiful property you can see the windows to one soul just doing this, great time to contemplate, no stress just you and god. Do ever make crop designs in the grass when you mow? Thanks josh for sharing.

    Beautiful place. I always hated hitting a fawn when cutting hay or bush hogging. Do you plant fields for your wildlife and hunt your farm?

      Yea...sucks even though I'm tired of running them out of my garden!!!

    Don't you love the loop-de-loops you have to do when changing directions mowing? Especially when you get down to the last part of an area. You spend more time changing direction than you do mowing.
    BTW, have you ever considered discing (not tilling) it instead of mowing? It doesn't grow back as quickly, and it puts some of the organic material INTO the soil instead of just on top.nbnbHere's a book from 1945 about it: journeytoforever.org/farm_library.html#folly Interesting read.
    Here's the website I found it on: journeytoforever.org/ It's under the "Small Farms Libray" link on the left. Lot's of permaculture information.

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před 6 lety

      No I've seen what discing sod can do....makes a huge mess out of your field...all this you see here was overgrown brush...every blade of grass was planted by me....takes several years to get the pasture up and self sufficient ....soon cows will be coming ..manure and self fertilizing hay and grazing areas!

    Josh how many total Acer's of hay fields will you have in the end when it is all said and done? And are you planning on cutting it all with that 74" hay bine? That 5065 should be go alittle bigger than that? I know money doesn't grow on trees lol just wondering

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před 6 lety

    Yikes! could have gone all day without the carnage report (reminded me of "Watership Down" with all the rabbits) but I guess that's farm life. You have a beautiful place. Thanks for the ride and the great music!

    I DID learn something today from your vlog! Butt in the seat to start a tractor! I don't have a tractor, and have never driven one, but when I do, now I know! :)

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před 7 lety +1

      Cool...funny you say that...I went to look at a used tractor the other day and the guy reached right over and started the tractor while standing between the wheels.....I cringed!!!! Mostly I cringed because I was standing in front of the tractor....could have really hurt us both!!!!! Never ride on the fender with another person driving and never ever start it when standing beside it!! Thanks for the comment Julie

      $10,000 to fence that field....soon we'll be grazing...but we've got more pasture to clear first
