This is actually a great. Being a GM lover myself, I didn't actually think I would like this car, I didn't have high hopes for it. But it's actually great! And what a lot of you complainers about the engine need to understand is that all cars nowadays are getting smaller engines for fuel economy. Yes, cars back then did have bigger engines but the earth wasn't the main concern. Remember when Jeep Wranglers had V8's? Pepperridge farm remembers... As for the interior. It's much better than what I have seen in other new cars. The cheap plastic does not feel like cheap plastic, it actually feels pretty premium compared to others. (I know people think the cloth is strange too but I think they incorporated in into the car just fine) Exterior is also fine and sharp.

@@ceciliaabdalla4954 it's held up incredibly well, especially for an economy car from GM. Everything from the engine and transmission to the infotainment system and interior electronics has been completely problem-free, and it's still as powerful and comfortable as the day I got it. It even still has its original brakes, suspension, tires, and lights. For reference, I also have a 2020 Ford Ranger whose transmission had to be repaired for to a defective solenoid valve back in the winter of 2022, and I recently had to replace a busted rear license plate light which they would not cover under the car's warranty.
I've had mine about a year. It was a rental that I bought from Enterprise. I love the appearance of the car but the clear coat is already coming off. I live in Texas so I can attribute that to the sun and heat. The inside is spacious but it's also a comfortable ride for my 4'9 frame. The rear vents are great because I have a toddler. My biggest complaint in the lack of power in the 1.5L LT model. Even after cleaning my throttle body, and replacing my intake filter and MAF sensor it's still a painfully sluggish car. Although I am comparing it to my previous cars, a Mini Cooper and a Civic.
In '96 my wife and I bought a brand new Buick Regal with the 3.8 liter V6. It was a full sized car, roomy and fully equipped. It honestly did get 30 mpg on the highway and had about 220 horsepower. The 3.8 liter was one of the best engines built by GM. Still, they can get over 160 horsepower out of a 1.5 liter and easily get 225 horses out of a 2.0 liter. I will miss the V8's and even the V6's but honestly we no longer need anything bigger than an inline 4 cylinder. As an old muscle car guy I will always miss the roar of the V8 but reality is they are history. (btw; I still drive a '95 Dodge Ram 4x4 with the 5.9 liter Magnum and IT roars!)
Just purchased a 2017 Malibu and it's great awesome!!!!! It's the 1.5 LT and it's gets it in he highway! Great job on this model!!! Unfortunately I have the 2013 edition and it has some flaws that they corrected with this one!!!!!!
Are you supposed to be able to see the radiator in the bottom of the front bumper? Look closely at the beginning of the video. Can I buy something to protect the bottom of the radiator? At 53 seconds
I think they killed it here, the only part I would want to change is the front, I cant put my finger on it but its just not perfect for my own tastes. Still, looks great for what it is.
+Acc0rd79 This is the Impala look that also appears on the Traverse, Cruze, and Equinox (the best selling CUV in the U.S.), so it is a Chevy family look.
We bought the 2017 Optima SXL and sooo many comfort and safety features even after 2 years we still need the manual to figure out what they are!! With nappa leather interior!
Aiming to buy my first vehicle and really debating on this car....I found two that I really like (one from 2016 and another from 2017) both the exact same color, just the year and mileage seems to be different. Between this and a 2016 Camaro because it's always been a dream of mine to own one. Only problem is the Camaro costs like $6,000 more and don't know how I feel about the color. Not to mention the Insurance would cost more....
I got "Engine Power Reduced" last wednesday and the car engine totally died for a couple of hours, then it started on again alone , dealer still don't find the root cause of why this happened. I'm starting to be worried if this will happen frequently :(
You guys are way to hard on that Chevy. Even the old Malibu was a great well screwed together car that was probably the safest in its class. I've had many customers come in over the years and while the Camry and Accord are well put together cars the Malibu is right up there with them. Customer satisfaction when speaking to the customers has been very high with Malibu owners from 2010 on up.
My dad owned a 2015 Camry and now he owns a new Malibu and the Camry was much better. It also drives like a golf cart. The engine has to work so much harder than the Camry did to go anywhere. And Apple CarPlay is really annoying when you're trying to watch CZcams videos. The Camry will always be king in my book.
Jay Cogan I love my 2014 Malibu. Just wish the design reps at Chevy continued in that direction for exterior design and not this new whale faced fish they’ve debuted for ‘16. Maybe they’ll go back to that sexy ‘15 model design with nothing but LED’s, AWD options and more horsepower.
Why is everyone so obsessed with soft-touch? It is usually still a type of plastic. I say if it looks nice and doesn't rattle, then it's good. Soft-touch is nice to see, but it seems to be an obsession.
I do own a 2017 Malibu ! ive owned it for 3yrs . its the same color that you show in this video . Mine is a Ls model. but I do love that 2.0T model . maybe my next car to purchase later !
I’m renting one of these right now while my car is in the paint shop. Visually the car is pretty nice to be honest except for the weird shaped nav screen in the dash. It is pretty slow too. It really should be a v6.
The rental company can have this. The GMPP extended warranty was the only part of a Chevrolet purchase that I did right. There's a reason why people say to get rid of a car before 100,000 miles.
I don’t understand all the negativity toward the Malibu and GM. They’ve redesigned it into a sharp looking, competitive mid size sedan…admittedly, something it was lacking before. The General has also paid all of their bailout money back plus interest, and are making better cars than ever before. For those complaining about interior plastics, you can’t price something at $20,000-$30,000 and expect premium grade materials. Everyone seems to want premium features and connectivity, yet if it were offered, they would balk at the price. You can't have it both ways. It's an excellent vehicle for the common everyday driver.
Small turbos do deliver power but only so much and with noise. I don't like the initial lag on turbos. I like this car but would it would be better with a 6 cylinder. I know this car is not for racing but power makes driving more fun and safe. I have read that the seats are more comfortable than an Impala's seat. I don't see how considering they are smaller. I like the Impala but the seat comfort has some issues. I also am concerned about the poor rear view visablity of the Impala and that is why I am at least looking at this Malibu. Is it just as bad as the Impala's? I need to sit on one of these and check out the head room. I am not fond of head crowding Moon roofs but I have found it difficult to find a car without one...
The 2016 is my 2nd Malibu. Very reliable, no major issues. Good value. Main fault is poor rear view visibility due to high rear deck. You simply can't rely on rear view camera except for narrow view backing up. A fault of many of the new car styles.
winner of 2016 jd power 3 yr RELIABILITY ratings, besting even toyota camry. I have to wonder where reliability perceptions come from and how they are scored. JD Power asks customers rather than relying on media hype or second hand anecdotes. Chevy beats out Toyota and Honda surprisingly.
JD Power doesn't mean anything - initial reliability means nothing. Look up long-term Consumer Reports videos. Or, go on Autotrader and see how many 200,000+ mile Camry's there are for sale vs. Malibu's
Third brake light leaks I have a 2016 same problem with 2017 get it fixed before the 36000 mile warranty runs out or you have have to pay to fix like I did.
Ok. I am Trying to buy a new car, but can't decide. I have a 626 which I love, so I was gearing towards the new Mazda 6. Only con is that it doesn't offer v6 engine. This was my second choice. Don't know much about cars...did some research. Which one is the better choice if either?
Just rented a LT with the 1.5 liter turbo. At 70 mph on Florida's Turnpike, it tended to work a little. Couldn't figure out the infotainment system (where's the AM frequency?!!!!) and passenger front seat adjustment (thank goodness I didn't have any passengers) - like where the hell's the adjustment knob? Other than that, it was a solid feeling car and stylish looking.
Just rented a 2018 Malibu from Hertz and drove 500 miles.
This car is awesome for long trips. Very comfortable, yet easy to drive.
Are Hertz also selling used cars?

For reference, I also have a 2020 Ford Ranger whose transmission had to be repaired for to a defective solenoid valve back in the winter of 2022, and I recently had to replace a busted rear license plate light which they would not cover under the car's warranty.
Yeah, the Malibu is back!
I just bought this car today, is gorgeous!
Have you had any problems with it so far???
hows the car so far?
Marco Ramos really good had no problems with it I bought it with 83k miles on it and is running perfectly
daanceduh no problems at all is a great car
@@chiefs-30-ti88 alright thank you! I was considering this or a Kia Optima
not so sure about the front but the rear looks awesome! reminds me a little of the Audi A7, and that is by far one of the best looking rear ends
Bout to get one of these this week 😭 I’m so excited!
The engine choices are too small! 1.5 liter is insufficient, and the 2 liter requires premium fuel. I want a return to the 3.6 liter V6.
William Keith do you plan on racing it?
(btw; I still drive a '95 Dodge Ram 4x4 with the 5.9 liter Magnum and IT roars!)
small engines married with turbos make up for engine size and make them way more fuel efficient
William Keith Urban areas of the most important thing is that the company
William Keith 250 is enough! if you want more power get the impala with 305 hp
My 2015 Hyundai Sonata reduces fan speed to lower ambient noise during Bluetooth phone calls... this isn't something Chevy is doing first...
Just purchased a 2017 Malibu and it's great awesome!!!!! It's the 1.5 LT and it's gets it in he highway! Great job on this model!!! Unfortunately I have the 2013 edition and it has some flaws that they corrected with this one!!!!!!
What were some of the flaws? I am considering getting a used 2012 from my brother in law for $5000 only 68,000 miles.
The ambient noise reduction @2:45 was in my 2006 Acura TL.
Richard Joash Tan English much?
I was the same when I first saw it but it's grown on me or atleast in this color it's pretty cool looking
+Acc0rd79 You really have to see it in person to develop an appreciation for it. It really is a sharp, good-looking car.
Looks better than the alternative american midsize.
This malibu is the best one yet!
I had huge interest in the Malibu until I found out how cramped the seatbelts were and all of the other things the Malibu lacked.
Now that looks brilliant
I got "Engine Power Reduced" last wednesday and the car engine totally died for a couple of hours, then it started on again alone , dealer still don't find the root cause of why this happened. I'm starting to be worried if this will happen frequently :(
Thanks for sharing your experience with this Chevy.
The styling is a bit garish to me but I suppose you can't really go wrong with this car. Crazy how it's available with a 1.5L motor though.
Love the music Micah, love the review Zach, like the new Malibu GM.
Love the comment Craig D have a good day LIFEISACIRCLE...lol
Why is everyone so obsessed with soft-touch? It is usually still a type of plastic. I say if it looks nice and doesn't rattle, then it's good. Soft-touch is nice to see, but it seems to be an obsession.
This car looks good. Too bad Chevrolet are no longer in Europe.
the 2.0 turbo is a modern sleeper for a Malibu. 5.7 seconds to 60 is nothing to sneeze at.
I do own a 2017 Malibu ! ive owned it for 3yrs . its the same color that you show in this video . Mine is a Ls model. but I do love that 2.0T model . maybe my next car to purchase later !
I think this guy did a good job.
Also, I know he's an enthusiast when he talks about debadging his car. So :) Right there with ya.
Will make a nice rental car. looking forward to driving one the next time I travel.
I’m renting one of these right now while my car is in the paint shop. Visually the car is pretty nice to be honest except for the weird shaped nav screen in the dash. It is pretty slow too. It really should be a v6.
Sonata nails this car and also Camry and Accord in Re/value.
Wishing the daytime running lights were together with the head lights. Sorry I’m really picky with cars 😂😂
This car sounds like a winner. This is what happens when US automobile manufacturers actually pay attention to their car lineup.
This is a beautiful car. By far the best looking of the family sedan line up. It's about time.
check a 2015.....this one clearly looks like a poormans impala
I'm 5'3, i'm good! I also have a 2005 Chevy Malibu. I mean..........WOW! What a car!
It's an excellent vehicle for the common everyday driver.
finally a review without toooooo much silly jokes.
This car is so nice might just gone head and buy this car
Keshia brown get a used fully loaded one that’s what I plan on doing from like 2017
Really a good looking car! Nice to see GM actually bothering to design a car!
Good review but I really wish you would for front wheel drive vehicle's mention the level of torque steer when accelerating from a stop.
The 2015 Malibu has optional HID headlights, odd that they've taken that away.
+Barobran92 Agreed. Although I like the red Fusion you have in your profile pic. I have one and its awesome, wish Ford had offered HID's for it.
Great lines!
Good review and nice car, thanks.
Im planning to buy one next week is this really worth it?
10/10 car! Maybe the only zonk is that it would be nice if it would be available as a station wagon.
Please perform a moose test for Chevy Malibu of 2017 and beyond , it’s not been done yet!
To bad the 1.5 is killing the pistons and GM's not sure why at this point. All four pistons to be replaced or a totally new engine in some cases.
What do you mean by the brake light leaks
@@jorgegomez4761 the roof brake light will leak inside on the ceiling.
Liked it all until the need for premium gas in the upgraded engine, and no HID or LED headlight option.
At 1:43 You made a typo there, Its the Ford FUSION not the Ford FUSSION.
It's a looker.
I am happy GMs make good looking car now.
Very nice redesign. Can't wait to rent one. As far as buying one? I just bought a Mazda 6.
Hiii can you tell me about engine quality good or bad
Ok. I am Trying to buy a new car, but can't decide. I have a 626 which I love, so I was gearing towards the new Mazda 6. Only con is that it doesn't offer v6 engine. This was my second choice. Don't know much about cars...did some research. Which one is the better choice if either?
the exterior has a well design with the body lines and head and tail lights
I have 2017 malibu i love it beats driving ford tell u that
I have a 2018 malibu. Just like the one we are seeing but mine is an LT
Pablo Ramirez I have an 18 LT too! Love it!
would have like to see more on the computer----all its features
Just rented a LT with the 1.5 liter turbo. At 70 mph on Florida's Turnpike, it tended to work a little. Couldn't figure out the infotainment system (where's the AM frequency?!!!!) and passenger front seat adjustment (thank goodness I didn't have any passengers) - like where the hell's the adjustment knob? Other than that, it was a solid feeling car and stylish looking.
I fucking hate this car so much... But it's so fucking reliable, it's ridiculous.
i'd love to rent that right now
