What I don't get is how she talked to the dude who lost the wallet and the zoo dude if she was already dead.
I have a feeling she didn't actually speak with them. If you watch the zoo guy he actually gets on the bus after you lie to him. Which is something he probably wouldnt do if he was looking for the children. Also the wallet guy doesnt even seem to acknowledge Misfortune's presence

It took me much too long to realize that he was being literal with their deal. She crossed over to the Forrest, she crossed from her abusive home into a “magical adventure”, she left the land of the living at the very beginning of the game, she crossed from the path of being her mother’s little misfortune to working her hardest beyond death to give her mother the strength to take off her mask and somberly smile at the harsh reality. Mr.Voice didn’t lie, it’s just that miss fortune was much to young to understand.

I like how the mother pulls her mask off indicating that she's completely seeing the world for the first time but not only that to realize her daughter is dead but it's still in her heart that she forgave her mother that's the true ending sure the little Misfortune had a whole lot of life that wasn't fair for her and the fact that she died from a car accident was messed up but this girl forgave her mother regardless

Here it goes: okay, we know that Misfortune never talked about her mother abusing her like her father did. All we know is she smoked, drank, and also told Misfortune you should smile even when you are sad. Here is my theory, her mother named her Misfortune because she is what kept her with her husband, because she knew she wouldn’t be able to take care of her on her own, and that she can’t leave her with her husband. Both Misfortune and her mother were abused by the father, and both had to pretend nothing was wrong. Her mom did truly love her, and when Misfortune won her the eternal happiness in this ending, she realizes she doesn’t need to hide her abusive relationship with her husband anymore, because he is arrested now, and is happy her daughter is somewhere better and safer than their household.

I know it's been two years but the owner of the channel giving the dog eternal affection made me happy.
God I LOVE how the mom is dealt with in the game. The whole theme I feel is that even when things are hopeless theres always something to remind you of the good in the world. Misfortune never saw the bad, she only ever tried to be a positive light in her life despite everything. While her mom walloowed away in her depression and sorrow and drowned how she felt with a wine bottle. It feels very real because a lot of people have to go through the hardship of losing something or someone to realize what they need to do. To 'wake up to reality' like she showed with her mask. It wasnt until the one thing in her life that could bring any joy to her was gone that she knew she had to step up and actually LIVE her life. Its awful and sucks, but its true.
She might've ended up worse if it wasn't for the happiness magic.

Honestly, I like how Death had a calm, almost motherly voice. Usually, people would portray him (or her in this case) as a terrifying being with a deep growling voice, but no. Its like she's asking you to come inside for tea. And I like that.

For those who thinks that her mother smiling over her death is rude etc.
She’s happy that misfortune is in a better place than what she was in- even if it meant dying. She’s happy her daughter is safe with death and that her father is still suffering instead of misfortune. Misfortune did this all for her and she, in a way, accepted that.
The meaning is actually very beautiful and with the taking off of the mask as she is actually happy and doesn’t need it anymore is kind of rewarding.

I think the mom remembered the fact that misfortune she used sparkles as an innocent child during her life and that stayed in misfortunes moms heart forever. You dont get the eternal happiness ending if you dont think or sparkle life with lighthearted ness.
I love how when morgo picks up misfortune, she acts mildly annoyed rather than terrified.
A Pineapple well, considering she treats anything that would usually traumatize someone as more of a mild inconvenience, I think it’s on the spectrum of being too young to be able to fully emotionally comprehend the consequences. While she may realize she’s dead, she doesn’t to have any sort of regrets or morn over unfulfilled ambitions, so it will never truly sink in of the life she’ll have missed out on. Which I feel is rather accurate for a dead child. A similar example being the comic of Lenore, the little dead girl.

I love how sweet and innocent Misfortune is. Her sparkles with her attitude, her toys and her thoughts. How she made herself feel better with her sparkles and imagination. She has a better self-esteem than I could ever have. How she made a deal with a " Dangerous Entity " just to give her Mum "Eternal Happiness," then ends up actually giving her Mum true, "Eternal Happiness," for the price of her life. She cares about her family so much and its so sweet.

if i’m not mistaken, i think she died when she crossed the road in the beginning. remember when everything went black and white for a second and then morto denied that anything happened? i think morgo has the ability to change things, so he made HER world go back to normal so she wouldn’t suspect that she had died. i don’t think she was dead since the beginning, since there’s no concrete proof. it’s a cool theory though.

I haven't finished Fran Bow yet, but I believe that Fran Bow is actually the mom, and that's why Misfortune is able to see things as well. As for their last names being different, Misfortune inherited her father's last name. This is just a theory I came up with though based on what I know of both games, so I could be wrong.

The end kinda ties into Fran Bow universe, or at least there is a connection between the two.
Someone else pointed out that the car is her dad’s car, and now the eye fluids are increasing.
My interpretation of the mother's response is that she received the revelation that her daughter itself was ultimately her sunshine and not a misfortune in her tragic life. The true misfortune was the husband. It is a shame that she had to realise after her daughter's death.
Sometimes we don't know what we have until we lose it, sadly.
We get so used to the person being there, always, that we just find their presence a routine.

Here's a theory: She was dead from the beginning of the game but her soul was not ready to leave yet. Her dad ran her over because the tracks are already there on the road when you first play the game. Which explains why her mom won't respond to her at the beginning of the game and keeps drinking wine and smokes cigarette (trying to get over the whole situation). You never actually see Misfortune's dad because he probably died in the car crash? When you first interact with the car parked at the house she says that "This is where daddy sleeps" and then "Daddy..?".
Game starts while she is playing in her room and Mr. Voice says that she is going to die, that was the day her soul was ready to leave. Mr. Voice (being the evil) wanted to take her soul but Benjamin was trying to get her soul to the angel of death, where she actually finds eternal happiness. (And if we go by the best ending) Once she finally found the eternal happiness is the only time her mother could finally accept the situation and be happy.

The thing I got right I think it's the fact that her mom took her mask off and that's a metaphor of her facing reality. Everyone in that city had a mask on so no one wanted to face reality. I had to say that for fun but really I think this is the story of how vulnerable little ladys like her are to being abused by family. I think this game is trying to visually explain the stages of emotion you go through, for example going through trust, then realisation, then the emotion you feel when you need to get away. I think the moral of the story is that it's alright to say no, in a dangerous situation. It is not a horror game, but a game trying to get kids to speak out. That's what I think anyways.
I hope this helped understand the story a little bit more.
