Thanks so much for posting this clip from the first Gidget movie. I have been over the moon for "Moondoggie", a.k.a. James Darren, since I was ten years old. Seeing it always brings me back to a more innocent time. Sometimes I wish the world today was a bit more like it was back in '59 when this movie was made, just a few short months before I was born. Anyway, thanks for the memories. I watch it whenever I need a pick-me-up or an escape from my world.
I love Gidget Goes Hawaiian, too, but it's a whole different vibe. They lost me with the third one. Gidget in Rome was an annoying flake, and Moondoggie chain smoking??? Just no. Maybe if they'd been SURFING in Sardinia.
I'm glad yt hasn't taken short Gidget clips like this down. I hate that it deleted the 10-min. clips of the whole movie. Being able to watch old movie classics on yt makes this site so special to me, if only it wouldn't keep removing them.
Apparently, James Darren’s chest was not naturally hairless. There had actually been quite a bit of hair lol. He was forced to have it waxed however. Being a fan of hairy chests, I consider that a CRIME 😩💔😢
Most men have harry chests... it was just the movie esthetic at the time for a leading man. Plus it would look weird because of how young Sandra Dee is here.. it was a smart move.
It does look really unnatural, given the thick black hair on his head. But hey, for cinema fakery, nothing beats Cliff Robertson surfing with a straw hat AND a lit cigar. 🤣 One of my favorite movie scenes ever!
Just remember, kids, you really DON'T want to go surfing in Malibu without a wet suit! The Pacific Ocean is ice water, because the current flows down from the north. Far, far colder than the Atlantic, where the current comes up from the south. Sandra Dee got pretty sick making this movie because the beach was so cold and windy, even though most of the surfing was done on a sound stage.
This was a magical time in 1959 so many things happen Sandra Dee was magical it’s very sad that Stockard Channing had to do the stupid song look at me I’m Sandra day but Saturday is a special this movie catchers innocence of that time it certainly would change in the next 10 years but this is part of the fabulous 50s I wish we were back there
Wonderful Film! Funny, insightful and Poignant. Great Characters... and nothing like you'd expect from it's "Greasy" reputation. Sandra is awesome and the very pinnacle of Smart, Cute and Innocently Sassy... and James Daren is dreamy.
