- For those who are curious, here is a slightly higher quality recording of the "ghost beats" presentation I did for the 2020 Colorado Modular Synth Fest (CMSF). The basic technique is taking two rhythm patterns - one that is the skeletal framework you want to always hear, and one with beats appearing and disappearing using a probability skipper - and using a logic module to blend them together.

This is absolutely brilliant. Thank you Chris.
As a drummer and a modular synthesist, I am finding this to be an incredibly inspiring video. I think that this formula is the closest thing I have been able to replicate the "real drummer" feel. Thanks so much for all of your work - I am also currently enjoying studying Patch & Tweak! You are a life changer, my friend. 😎
Thank you so much! I take the approach that no one was born knowing this stuff, and if I learned something I find useful, others might it useful too - so I share.
Pure gold. Thank you.
Thank you for coming on the meetup! Can't wait to have you on again!!!
I found this really informative. I always neglect my and/or module, but you've inspired me to look into it to create these more engaging patterns. Thanks!
Thanks! Here's a video I created last year on using logic modules that might help flesh things out further: czcams.com/video/4SbDvFv42BU/video.html
@@LearningModular Thanks for pointing me to this! Excited to watch!
So I just looked and found that my module is actually a AND,NAND, and XOR. The video you linked covered AND which was awesome. Do you happen to have anything on NAND/XOR?
@@slowscape not yet. But, I also don't take the approach of "I have this module...what can I do with it?" - instead I take the approach of "I want to do this thing - which module can make this happen?" :-)
You would like the varigate modules
Using Intellijel Steppy gate sequencer would be an easier way of getting the probability control you want.

What's that keyboard-thingy in the bottom middle? A quantizer? Looking for a quantizer with many inputs and outputs, not just 1 or 2.
The keyboard thingy is a Doepfer A-173 Micro Keyboard that I use for transpositions, re-tuning Rings, etc.
The Ornament & Crime (O_C) module has a quad quantizer algorithm in it: ornament-and-cri.me/user-manual-v1_3/#anchor-quantermain
Which clone of grids is that ?? It seems super handy!

milliGrids by Lasse Sort. He didn't make too many of them.
Learning Modular thanks a lot !
Another alternative if you are short of HP is the Drum Girl by Ladik. Very similar feature set in only 4HP, and cheap too!
You have your rack on modular grid?
