As a high school jazz band director it's always an inspiration to hear the top bands at Essentially Ellington. I have a special fondness of the Newark Academy band as they are just across the rive from my own school in Manhattan. Such wonderful, joyful music making. And the level of subtlety in this performance is truly remarkable. Bravo to the students and to Mr. Tolentino.
