- Ozamiz was formerly known as Misamis -- a name believed to have been derived from a Subanen word kuyamis, a variety of coconut. Other unverified historical sources, however, suggest that the name Misamis came from the Spanish word Misa (Catholic Mass).
After the war, Misamis became a chartered city by virtue of Republic Act 321 on July 16, 1948. This also renamed Misamis to Ozamiz after a hero José Ozámiz who hailed from the province of Misamis Occidental and who at one time also served as its governor and congressional representative of the Lone District of Misamis Occidental.

Thank you for sharing this video, it brings back memories, I sttended my 1st grade up to 4rth grade at Annex Elementary school Ozamis City ,before we moved to Cebu City.And I have had a lot of experience experience during my 4 yrs living in the said place ,.The name of the park near the pier called Imelda Park as I recall and thats the only place I go to almost every afternoon .
