How To Use Ignition Spark Tester (Beginner’s Guide)

- This video reveals how to use an ignition spark tester on a car (adjustable ignition spark tester). It includes a practical, easy to follow demonstration via a car on the driveway.
An adjustable ignition spark tester reveals how effectively a car’s ignition system transfers electricity to the spark plugs. The engine cannot run properly if the spark plugs do not get a strong, consistent flow of electricity.
The video confirms how to:
• connect the ignition spark tester to a car
• read the scale on the tester (KW)
• run a test and interpret the results
• minimise the risk of electrocution.

Much appreciation for this extremely informative video. Your simple explanation of the tools proper usage was easy to understand and follow along with. Also thank you for added safety tip. To me it's quite obvious to not touch the tool during use, but to some it might not be. So again thank you for adding it into your very well made video. Much respect 🙏 🫡.

Looks like an interesting and useful gadget to have. Good and informative vid. Thanks.
You're welcome.
Thanks for the video it helped me to know what the letters and numbers were for, I never needed to use one on diesel engines, thanks again
You're welcome.
Informative and funny thanks
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. Plenty more to follow.
Tqvvm..

Glad the video helped and best wishes from the UK.
Thanks for video
Helped check my coil on boat motor
No worries. Glad the video helped.
excellent well explained this tool is to check that the current outlets of the distributor work by sending voltage in each power cable
Thank you. Glad you like the video.
Nice brother
Thank you, Funnys.
FYI, that screw is quite loose with these types of testers, simple solution, go to you nut and bolt supplier and get a nut, adjust while it's loose, then tighten the nut, problem solved, and don't forget to take the tool with you :)
Handy little tool. Best wishes from CarSpyTV
@@CarSpyTV Cheers
That is a brilliant solution. Thank you for that tip. I just ordered the tool, so once it shows up I will take it to my local Ace for a nut before I use it on my car. Respect 🙏 🫡.
@@georgeyoung613 You're most welcome 🙂👍
Thanks for the vid. I bought one of these from Princess Auto on advice from a mechanic but it did not com with instructions.

Can you elaborate on the scale?
0=0kv?
0|2|0,?
Thanks
SE = SMALL ENGINE
20 = 20K VOLTS
30= 30k VOLTS ETC..
The writing on this tester IS confusing i agree.
Why is there a 0I before the 2 ??
Why not just put a 2 for 20k and a 3 for 30k and a 4 for 40k at the correct spots ?? That makes sense
Agreed. The scale could be clearer.
hello SE scale I can use it in a car with a small 3-cylinder engine of 800 displacement. like the mini morris or the suzuki alto 3 cylinder
Hello. The tool should work fine on a 800cc car engine. I’d be hoping for measurements beyond the SE mark.
Have the same one about ten yrs old made by ampro
Good stuff, Frank. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
Do you leave the spark plug in, that corresponds to the wire you are testing?
I left the spark plugs in. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.

How does that work for a single cylinder motorbike?
This tool works much the same irrespective of the number of cylinders.
@@CarSpyTV yes but a single or twin cylinder is unlikely or won't start!!
Know if your car can only produce 30000 volts does that mean you kept your plug too .30
Good information. But the audio is totally out of sync with the video - very distracting! But still thumbs up for overall info content.
Thank you, Richard. Glad you like the video.
As for audio issues, I've just watched the video on my computer and it played perfectly. The upload file is okay, too. Perhaps CZcams had a funny five minutes!
Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
We're to purchase
Mine came from eBay.
That is a very interesting video.
A very useful tool and really very simple that can help diagnose and save us lots of money.
Thank you
You're welcome, CD ROD.
Wish you had done (1) car with distributor and (2) small engine with magneto. Do not understand how your engine ran with the item between the high voltage source and ground. Were you continually cranking it? Especially in the second part, with the expanded gap and no spark. Hey, I'm just a dumbass American. LOL
Hello. The engine ran (without the need to continuously crank it) because I left three of the four ignition coils in place. Best wishes from the UK.
Didnt know the car was grounded to earth ...
"Ground" is the frame of the item, to which the spark plug threads electrically connect to.
@@jkaugust3586 your answer was completely irrelevant 🤦🏽♂️
@@ACommenterOnCZcamsin British vernacular, ground is the same as earth
@@jowen001 yes ground is the same as earth here in the states BUT what does a CAR's electrical system have to do with EARTH GROUND .....???
No car on the planet is grounded to EARTH ...
