About this video: We are going over some of the common mistakes many soccer players make while shooting. If you want to learn how to shoot harder in soccer and with more accuracy, then avoid these mistakes.

For those of you who are wondering how to be more accurate with your shooting.... proper technique is the answer. If you use proper form and hit the ball in the correct spot it will go straight and hard. Like he said in the video proper practice is key.
A few other things I have noticed when coaching kids is that they will often not point their toes on the follow through. This is fine if you are trying to chip the goalie but not if you are trying to shoot low and hard. I love sports photography and often take pictures for the team and post them online for the other parents. In many of the pictures the kids have their toes pointed straight in the air after a shot. It is important to have your toes pointed at the target in the follow through as well as when you are kicking. Kids will fail to point their toes because they are afraid to stub their toe in the ground when kicking. This is a function of poor technique. to correct it the player needs to either lean to the side which is what most kids figure out, or you need to lift your hip on your shooting leg and have a slight "V" in your kicking leg at the knee.
Although most kids lean back when shooting, a few will actually jack knife their whole body forward over the ball. This will reduce the range of motion of the hip flexor muscles and reduce power.
What you do before you kick the ball is tremendously important also. Number 1: look at the ball when you are shooting!!! Not the target! Try hitting a golf ball when looking at the pin... it won't work very well. Take a quick look at you target before your shot. Then put your head down and make sure you are looking only at the center of the ball.
Number 2: Take a hop with you plant foot which will transfer all your weight moving forward into the ball and generate power.
Number 3: point you plant foot at your target!! This is very important when shooting across your body (or crossing a ball). As you swing your hips will begin to turn or "square up" toward you target as you shoot. This will result in a nice fluid motion generating more power and accuracy.
Tip: To generate more power (not always recommended) bring your shooting leg back further before the kick. If you punch a wall when your hand is only 1 inch a way from the wall it won't hurt very much. You will generate a lot more power and hurt yourself badly if you wind up and take a big swing. Same thing in shooting a soccer ball.
Having said all this... It took me a long time to realize that I scored a lot more goals when I stopped trying to kick the ball as hard as I could and just passed it into the side netting where the keeper wasn't. Unlike baseball... there isn't a guy with a radar gun measuring the speed of you shot. I actually hit a ball over an open net in high school from ten feet out when I beat the keeper on a breakaway. You can use your imagination on the kind words my coach had for me after the game:)

I like your videos, you make alot of sense. It would make it a little better if you actually include actual video of those mistakes, for entertainment and visualization purposes. I actually found myself practicing against a small wall, for accuracy and all the other reasons you mentioned. Really does help.

what happens with me - sometimes the contact I make happens with the regions not so dense/thick on my foot. also sometimes it happens that my ankle is not locked/ stiff enough.
those 2 - it wouldn't say mistake, but unmindfulness that happen in my case.

One thing I’ve been told, I lean back like fat joe! I can only shoot with side foot, not laces. But I still manage to keep it down. Due to get myself filmed so I can correct mistakes. I score a lot of goals but need to shoot with proper technique! Great vid

Big thing I've noticed is that so many players practice shooting a dead ball. Now this is fine if you're specifically practicing free kicks, but generally speaking the ball will always be moving when you strike it, so don't hit dead balls. Take a touch out of your feet and hit it when its rolling!
My problem is when I’m in the left or right side when I shoot to the second post when I shoot my foot makes the ball spin going to wide to the second post making me miss how do I fix it?

I keep hitting the ball on the knuckle of my toe and it is beginning to take a tole on my foot. I am trying to fix this but can't seem to get it down. Our A team is ranked 26 in the United States and I used to play with them but got moved down to B team and I think it’s because I’m too small. You have more speed and agility so when a pass is coming torwards you act like you taken it but actually let the ball roll on and as you are the faster player you can move ur body fastrr and then run on the wing.
If we speak about not locking your ankle, I have this problem, and sometimes my ankle starts to hurt, because my ankle is loose and it moves around. This thing in combination with the fact that you make contact with the ball makes my shots often deceiving. I have to practice

i don't look at the goal often, when trying to volley i have bad timing, don't know how to lock my ankle, and i use my toes a lot and try to go for more power.

another big mistake : place the weak foot below the ball.(especially it happened shooting while running.so place your waek foot above the ball and shoot)

For some reason everytime I kick near the end of the shot there’s a huge curve. I’m still practicing and I notice the harder I kick the last curve but I know there’s still something wrong with my kick

If you want more power than curve (you use this when you are long way from goal) just lock your ankle and use the part of the foot where is big bone
If you want more curve than power(You use this when you are close to goal-1vs1 with kepper ) you doesn't need to lock your ankle and when you shoot look out to use inside of you foot

very helpful points but I think shooting at nets would be better than at a wall because when you really are in a match most of the times you're gonna be tired of running when you get the chance to shoot and when you shoot at nets you actually develop some stamina from the constant running too and you also get a idea of where and when to shoot in a real match situation plus shooting at walls is boring 😂

Sometimes leaning back can help as long as u can still hit the right place on the ball
Absolutely! Ultimately, it's all about the contact you make on the ball. Leaning back just encourages you to hit the bottom more. However, there are techniques where leaning back slightly helps out a little. But sticking with leaning over the ball and making good contact is usually more than good enough!
The mistake I'm making the most is leaning back that's why my shots often goes high
Here's my problem with shoting:
When on the run, shot the ball powerfully but zero accuracy.
On free kicks, awesome curve and hit the corners but zero power.
Or very less curve but much power and kinda accurate.
When on the run when I plant my foot and then I swing I miss the ball.
I only score when i shot when iam standing or moving at low speed. Someone help meh
