Thanks for posting! Both my brothers were sailors aboard cargo ships long before the internet and computers. They said life at sea could be very lonely and that as engine room crew, they had little to no contact with the officers who were supposed to stay to themselves. The favorite crew member? Always the cook ;) Amazingly, a raft of Vietnamese refugees was discovered at sea, many already dead. Brought aboard, the crew shared some clothing to cover them and brought them to their next port, Canada. Decades later, in Regina, Saskatchewan, my brother ran into a Vietnamese man who recounted being rescued by a Norwegian freighter and brought to Canada. Although they didn't remember each other, they recalled all the events of that night out in the vast Ocean. Talk about Karma! Anyway, great videos, I always enjoy them! Cheers, Doc

in reallity it doesn't rock . it's a very big responsability and whatJeffHK doesn' t say's it's that it takes a couple of years to become an officer . I'm a second mate ....myadvise is " if you like to go to cinema, drinck coffe in a coffe shop , watch some sport on TV , or just hang out with your friends ....don't become a sailor ....it's a very lonely life . Also that is a big container ship ...the smallers ones ...life is very hard on them , 3 port per day ....it means 6 manouvering per day , 1 hour per every manouvering at least ......you get very very tired ...belive me i know this

Very cool video. It's neat seeing the inside of those ships. I actually work for a tow boat company that operates from the monongahela river in Pennsylvania to the end of the Ohio river where it meets the Mississippi River. The boat I work on is about 70 feet by 26 and is three decks high. We operate a two crew system ( 1 pilot and 2 deckhands per watch) and the watches operate 6 hours on 6 off. Our boat mainly runs from Pittsburgh pa to the Ohio Pennsylvania border. We push barges that are 200ft by 35ft in a tow any where from one barge to 15 barges ( which is set up 5 long 3 wide).

very well done Jeff. It's nice to see the vessel tour beyond my desk :) By the way I work for the one of the biggest shipping companies, but I am on board very rarely, so your production has brought me some new experience :)
