Thanks for the info. Just ran a software update on the 2019 K900 for the first time (for free!!!!). The USB drive (not SD card) doesn't appear to have a memory limit, as I used a 256GB USB stick. The update took about an hour, but I was happy to see a welcome screen that looks similar to that on the 2020 Genesis GV70. The update even included Sounds of Nature, which has the same sounds on the Genesis. The navigation map seems to be more intuitive, at least for local roads, but I still need to drive on the interstate to see how it has changed.

Your video is well done and easy to follow with the right amount on the speed your talking. I have a 2019 Touring Kia EV Niro and the screen is so much better after the update. My wife's sister has a 2020 Kia EV Niro and it's 1 model down and does not have a Navigation on her screen. Could you please advise, should it be updated for the new software - if so what happens?? Thank you for this video. I have a Kia Sportage 2022, and I was able to change the language from Korean to English. I attempted to download the update from the official website using flash memory but I received a notice that it was not supported. whereas the map and the navigation still display a map of Korea. Is there a way to change the map to show the city where I live?

Sorry for the dumb question but I came on this video because I'm having trouble with my brand new EV6 (three weeks old). The maps are out of date yet I've already uploaded the latest 'software version' as described in the video. Some other EV6 owners in my country (NZ) clearly have a more recent map version than mine. So my question is: Is updating the 'software version' (you refer to it as updates to the 'head' - whatever that is) also meant to update the 'map version'? On the car screen it shows 'software version' and 'map version' as two separate things.

So thank goodness I kept the long disused windows machine in my attic! I've been using Linux for years but hey it's a trip down memory lane and unbelievably slow! One day Kia might realise that Linux and Chromebooks etc are out there!

I tried updating kia stonic but the screen has frozen. It’s been almost 12hrs and the usb is still in and the screen still says “validating update files”

Thanks for this very informative video. I have one question....can I drive the car whilst the update is being carried out? Purely because I don't want to just leave the car burning fuel for up to an hour whilst it updates. Not environmentally friendly for a start & simply wasteful. I appreciate that the battery mustn't discharge which could compromise the update process, but if I can drive the car whilst it's doing it I can combine the task with a trip somewhere! I have a Kia Ceed 2019 GT-Line by the way. Many thanks.
Last update I did was while I was driving. That wasn't an EV, but can't see that would matter.

I have 16GB SD card in my Kia Soul 2018 EV. After formatting it by the updating system and uploading the new files to it .. I put it in the SD slot in the car .. unfortunately I lost the navigation system at all .. and it did not read the SD card !!!!

what if your car model doesnt appear on the update page,for example a 2015 kia sorrento?the updater only caters to 2018-2022 models,what do you do then?

Being so latest, still its not complete. Even my old car, when locked from remote it shuts glass windows automatically when it's open by mistake.

We followed all instructions perfectly for our Kia Niro 2018 and not only did maps not update but it somehow wiped out all existing navigation functions. We called Kia customer service and they told us "don't call here again"! I am flummoxed. We just paid off this car. Any tips??

Once I begin the update in the car, how long should I expect it to take for it to finish? I left the car running for about five minutes but then turn the car off and it seems that the update is continuing.

usually takes about 30 mins.. for my older Stinger Premium ..to download..the new update...and then another 30 minutes
..to fully finish up re-loading the entire original 32 GB card in the car..while running..and now..still checking what may have actually changed..
At 05:14 it does not show copy to SD card for me. Instead it says 'Close the program after deleting temporary files' instead. Any idea what to do here?

Hi i tried to download this file then my pc power went off so when i downloaded it a second time the updater starts but than goes off. Ive uninstalled the program and reinstalled it but again in keeps crashing , any suggestions

@@mahmoudyounes1158 no, i got fed up to be honest and i disabled the navigation entirely. Depending on Android Auto till someone comes up with a magical solution

At 3:08, you say that you have NO CHOICE but to download the update software to your computer hard drive. Not so! The download location they first show is all that can be found at that moment with an instant search of your computer. The choice looks like you can slide it down to choose another destination / device but there aren't any! Solution: Plug a USB thumb drive or SD card into your computer at or prior to this step, and the choice WILL BE THERE! Mine appeared as "F" drive option. Then they give you some words of advice about if you download to your hard drive, you'll have to transfer to a USB or SD card to take to your car for the update. I think they say 32GB minimum. I used a 256GB thumb drive and I'm hoping that doesn't scare my Kia Soul into rejection! The software download (GPS map) for a 2020 Kia Soul is 39GB, so a 32GB thumb drive would NOT have been enough! Many files. None of which you can open to take a look on your computer, unless you are a real nerd!

* my 2023 Kia sportage hybrid requires 64 or greater Thumb drive. I used a 64Gb to be safe. Took forever to download land upload.
2021 Telluride. First try said 32 GB was insufficient. Needed like 40 something. So bought a 64 stick. Now telling me need at least 75 GB. So back to store. This is painful.
I have a 2014 Kia Sportage and the dealer here in Greece is telling me that it is not possible to update the satnav and I must pay for a complete new head unit at a cost of over 1000 euros. The reason the dealer gives is that the car was originally registered in France.
I really don't believe that a good company like Kia would do this, nor do I believe that the country of original registration should cause such a problem.
I'm happy to pay a reasonable sum for someone to do the update, but 1000 euros is exhorbitant.

I followed all steps and everytime I insert the flash drive it only plays audio files and never updates. I have a 2019 Kia sorento with a standard-class gen5 navigation system. Please help.
I'm only guessing here but if you formatted your flash drive like you are meant to, there shouldn't be any audio files to play. The car should recognize the drive has a software update on it.
When I click on the UPDATE button on the screen it keeps saying. "Insert the device that contains the update" it's in. And it's doing this beeping thing. And showing USB music with a file. So is it downloading?

Common issue! So my car doesn't have SD card slot at all, I tried with USB, it cleanly sees USB and plays sounds just like in your video, but whenever I press UPDATE it doesn't see the software. Tried with 32gb and 64gb as well, please HELP!!

So anyone who has done this knows if you buy a 32 GB portable storage device you only have 28 GB available, so you’ve got to buy the next size up and our cars will accept up to 128 GB from experience
it only needs 20 gigs of data.

Good question. I just asked a similar one before I saw yours. Given the time that's elapsed I don't think we're going to get answers :-(
I don't know if its their server, or my poor internet source (stupid old DSL, on my telephone line! There is no cable internet available in my neighborhood!), but... this simple download of update software / data took over SEVEN HOURS! 39GB. At about 1MB per second.
Also, at about 6:10, you mention "if your vehicle is equipped with 'start/stop function' you'll need to disable that." Yeah, because my Kia Soul automatically shuts down the engine at stop lights (brake pedal held down) and restarts when the brake pedal is released. it also shuts the engine down if you are in Park gear and don't shift and drive away in about 2 minutes! I need my engine running at idle for about 30 minutes to one hour for this update (so battery doesn't go dead). HOW DO I Disable that function??? You could give me a clue where to find that in the vehicle settings! I could NOT find a way to disable that function! Had to DRIVE my Kia Soul for over one hour to get this GPS map update to update!
I’m having an issue while trying to install the update. I downloaded and everything went smoothly until I insert the SD Card in my vehicle. Since it looks like the vehicle is not recognizing the SD Card, this is weird because its the same SD Card that I’ve always had, so I don’t know what could be causing this issue
Same problem here. Kia Sorento 2016. Took off the original SD card, donwload on it the new upate,back to the car, the car does not recognize it anymore. Probrably need to buy bigger SD ,at least 32 or 64 GB and than try it again.
@@momchilvlahovski5399 I reached out to Kia support via email and I followed a few steps and I was able to install the update. Somehow I needed to change one of the file names on the SD card, so weird haha. But I suggest you reach out to them!

@@jenniferatkinson442 yes, It works. It must be 32 GB nit bigger, nor smaller. 32 GB, Update for Kia Sorento 2017,and it works. It took less than 30 minutes. Important is that the engine must running all the time during the update.
