Beating OCD or Anxiety Starts with Accepting This

  • So much of anxiety or OCD is the illusion of control.
If I do this, then nothing bad will happen.
If I wash enough, I won’t get contaminated.
If I say this in my head, the discomfort will go away.
If I ask this question (again), then I’ll feel reassured.
The only problem is we don’t have control. We can’t prevent all bad things from happening, no matter how safe we try to be. We can’t rid ourselves of “contaminations” if OCD says they are still there. We can’t be reassured 100% that it won’t or can’t happen, because there is a chance it can.
When we learn that we have less control than what anxiety or OCD wants you to believe, you can be empowered to start to let go.
You can let go of that tight grip that gives you a false sense of control. You can let go of the illusion that you are fully at the helm.
In this week’s CZcams video I talk to you about how anxiety or OCD lies to you and makes you think you have more control than you do - more control than any of us do. I discuss how when you accept that none of us have control, anxiety, and OCD will lose their power.

Personally, having read more information about OCD, and having complete awareness of all my compulsions has made it more manageable to stop the compulsion If a bad thought arises, and stop the bad thought altogether. I see this being harder to grasp for a teenager or an early adult, but awareness and training of it is way more powerful than any thought we could ever conceive.

I have been suffering from religious OCD about 13years firstly I felt thease thoughts when I was a student ,I'm a buddhist so I have blasphemous thoughts about Budhdha
That thoughts made my life a hell....
In this situation I was interesting in psychology.psychology was studied for my bachelor degree, being suffered from OCD is a terrible secret of my life even my siblings are not aware of that.I have endeavored much to hide my inside situation from the society.
    Your channel was found incidentally
mam you seem very kind for your patients.if you are reachable I would visit you😥

Thanks for this message, it’s hard to hear but it’s true. I’m extremely afraid of vomiting, it’s taken control of my life for YEARS, now most things like leaving the house, eating, getting dressed, and going to bed are much, much harder than they need to be. And while I logically, thoughtfully understand that the only things that control whether I throw up are whether I wash my hands before putting something in my mouth, eating properly-handled foods (in a practical way, not with rituals), and maybe being careful when I’m in a shaky vehicle. But my OCD really doesn’t like it when I understand this, knowing that I don’t have much control over my stomach makes my OCD panic and try to make me do rituals, or at the very least give me a panic attack. But I think that processing this message is a good step forward, I’m really grateful for these videos.

That if I have comforting thoughts on my own, I don't control them, they calm my ocd thoughts, come by themselves, they calm me down. It's not a compulsion, i need to ignore it?
and can ocd thoughts being with question or "motive", not only "what if?"
like "do u wanna *?", "of course u wanna do *"
I hope for your answer, thank you
