This is a great video. As a former Spectrum tech this takes me back. Being stacked with 2 jobs at the same time, rain, all ladder jobs, hoping a super old drop will work then it makes you already later for your next job. You’re one of the guys who does things right though so there’s no repeats regardless of the piss pouring rain. Respect
Don’t hang your meter on the cable hang it on the strand 😂😂
I appreciate your vid bro, I'm a new hire at Spectrum just finishing my first week of training yesterday & your video really helped me mentally prepare for the process of running wire, checking the tap for signals, & how to safely use the cones while hanging your ladder. Very helpful video sir, I thank you 💯
Knock out those NCTI’s! I’m an ft5 and I’ve only been here a year and a half. Passed the ft6 exam too. Just had an interview last week for maintenance. I should find out if I got it this week
@@blastphame Oh wow, congratulations bro, that's great. I just finished working on my ncti's too. Yeah you really moved up the ladder fast, literally, lol. 😁
How do you only get 2 jobs scheduled 😂 i wake up and i get 7 before i clock in
I am about to apply at Comcast in the Oregon metro. Doing this exact thing. From what I have seen, I will be enjoying my job. I love to play with tech, especially networking.
how do you like it so far
@@ramiere1412 they didn't hire me. I didn't pass the online safety assessment lol
I retired thirty years at field service definitely plan for retirement I’m loving life now i was in upstate ny cablevision
Okay ! Im a cable tech for the same company also almost 3 1/2 years. Hope you’re still holding up! 🤞🏾
Great video! I used to work for Cox communications as a fiber/premise technician. I kinda miss it, I started my own low voltage company a few years ago.
Glad to see you really enjoying yourself, I myself also work for Triwire but in a different market. Keep up the good work but it doesn't get easier as you go into different markets
Hey man, new cable tech for Bell. Hope you keep the videos going
It got real on that last job! 😂 Rain and cold sucks! Great call replacing that drop bro 💯
😂😂😂 yeah bro it got real💯
Hahah that fitting looked like the early 2000s... I was thinking Yeah just run a new drop and you did!! Replacing a drop in the rain never fun.. great work tho!!
I appreciate that man yeah it’s never easy in the rain 😂💪🏾💪🏾💯
Appreciate the info man. New cable tech for Cox out here in AZ and on week 3 out of 10 of training & we just finished up cable math, let’s just say least favorite part so far haha. Anyways, your vids really do help. Keep it up man, I might hit you for some questions in the future haha but thanks for great info & take care!
Glad you enjoyed the content yeah cable math sucks but once you get that part your good I got more on the way 💪🏾💪🏾💯
Did you need experience getting into cox communication there hiring for technician
I’m new to Massachusetts and I’m new to the channel. I found you because I’m going through the hiring process now for ITG out in Chicopee and the vids helping
That's the CATV Techs logo from Facebook. I created it, and I am behind Cable techs of America, CATV Techs and Techlife.
Good job bro! Did the right thing by replacing the drop instead of maybe having to do it later in the install. When I was installing I always tried to save a headache if I could LOL. Drop was less the 100ft might as well replace it. Good work though bro!
I just did my zoom call interview today! I praying that I get the job 🤞🏼 instant sub but bro keep up the good work
I appreciate that bro hope you enjoy the work you will get it 💪🏾💪🏾💯
Saludos desde lima Perú
Bro what a great videos, thanks from Mexico
Glad you enjoyed the content
I can do the outside part , I just hated going into customers homes
not really related to this video in particular, but 3 words I will hate for the rest of my life: INTERMITTENT INTERNET CONNECTION hahaha
Facts man 😂😂😂
Damn that meter small is heck my meter Triple that size
Make sure you sell them HBO and Showtime
hey man possible video topic: tools that are not necessary but can help you out a lot in the field. some extras that I've purchased are 6 foot ladder, electric screwdriver, rechargeable area light for attics/late jobs, bluetooth ear piece
Also t strippers are life saver does rg6 and rg11 on the same tool so you don’t have to carry around 2 different tools
Thank you for this!
Right on Big Dog thanx for videos my name shanan i live big island hawaii kona side, i will be starting 4/10/22 or earlier hoping i can start earlier n do ride alongs, caz dat wat darren @ recruitement mention🤔
I start my cable tech job training on Monday. I'm excited to learn as much as I can!
Just take in as much info as possible ask questions.
Don't do it man 🤣
Keep in mind the class room is not the same as the field. You will learn a lot more in two weeks on the field then in classroom
@@davidcolindres118 yeah I got two weeks of field training and then I’m on my own
@@liqdelshaun I don't even have class just straight to the field.
that's a cool double ground block at the first job, we dont see those for comcast here in the GCR. Quick question are you guys required to install POE even for internet customers only?
Yeah even for internet customers we have to install them here
I miss it!
How much can I expect to make roughly? I am looking to become a tech 😊
Nice video. Do drops contain electricity? I see cables hanging in my backyard that I think are drops from previous renters.
No drops have electricity. Electricity are usually ran underground
I wish I could find these jobs near me but non are posted😐
Do you tie the ladder to anything?
They strap to the pole if the work is needed on the pole or they can lean the ladder on the wire without a strap
We have a strap for spans and poles but not same co
good stuff where are located??
Im with spectrum in so cal do you guys have the pressure tester yet?
Why do you always need to use the MoCA filters?
Hey man loving the videos. Question regarding the xb6/xb7. Why would one customer get one vs the other? I have a xb6 (black box) as a modem and I have a 1 gig connection which I fail to achieve fully. Could this be because I have an outdated box for what my download speeds are?
That could possibly be the case but Comcast claim that xb6 does handle gig speed as well but As a technician when I go to a install where the customer is getting gig I’m always putting in the xb7 that’s just me 🤷🏾♂️
But you also have other factors that can cause you to not reach your gig it could be bad connection not just behind the modem but also the outside wiring whether it’s the drop (which is the wire from the pole to your house) or the connections from your main splitter which is usually outside or in the basement or in the attic
Same as cabletech I always install xb7 if someone has gig service. XB7 is suppose to be capable of 2 gigs, but we only offer 1 or at least in my area. As far as your issues there are a lot of factors that are unknown that could directly effect your service from getting close to a gig. I have 800 extreme Pro and I typically always achieve it if not a little closer to 900 since they always give extra. I have personally never achieved gig or above 1gig when doing a speed test for customers. Usually if someone has gig it'll hover around 900 and sometimes hit 1 gig, but that's from everything being within spec and hardwired into the modem.
@@cabletech2371 gotcha, tbh I hit around 850-900 on speed test which is close enough. When I do the Comcast internal speed test it hits 1 gig but can never get it achieved when visiting Speedtest.net for example. I suppose it probably because of other devices connected which probably slow my speed down a bit.
I just got hired on at AT&T and love watching your videos. I can’t wait to get out of this 7 week training period and hit the road. Still learning as it’s my 2nd week. Last week we worked on pole climbing which I found fun to do haha. We ended up unfortunately losing 2 people in our class because they were either afraid of heights or just couldn’t see themselves climbing poles. How often do you find yourself climbing instead of using the ladder? @cabletech 23 @StuffyVoice
Why do you go to every tap regardless? I work with twisted pair and fiber and we just test the pair or fiber from the house. I have zero experience with Comcast so just curious.
what market you work in where you test straight from the house. I always have to find pairs on copper and fiber i have to go to the mst then to the fsai to hook up the service, but must of my fiber installs are brand new installs.
thats what you gotta do wit cable thats the shit i hated most i used to work for spectrum, regardless if its working or not you gotta test the signal levels at the tap , house box ,and cpe and upload it to a server on every order, just a bunch of sht that was pointless and wasted time
What size hard-line is run along poles? 500? And how much voltage is on the hard-line between taps?
No voltage on lower lines
Hsd filter on that tap?
what is the point in plugin your meter in the tap on the first job ?
Making sure that the signal is good at the tap. If you see anything unusual, you can notify your outside plant guys so they can fix that, plus you check to see if the drop has ingress on it.
@@benjaminbutler1792 thats the obvious answer. signal is good enough or a tech would be there. i was saying whats the point in checking signal when he has no idea how to alter it
@@benjaminbutler1792 just seen in the comments they have to save files and upload ... that adds up, still a waste of time imo, they wont fix anything as long as everyone is up and going
@Wrecknballs he said it was an install. The last thing you want to do is hook everything up and getting it working to have to go back a few days later to replace something that was bad.
We might not know how to alter it, but we have other technicians that can. Passing the info to them helps them fix it. I'm in a small market, our outside plant guys respond really quickly if we find an issue.
I'm a resi tech for Cox. With competition in the area, the last thing you want is your new customer to have a bad experience from the get go and switch.
What’s your least favorite thing about this job sir?
Why wouldn't you just check the signal at the ground block first
Where can I watch a video for beginners??
No house box 💀
