Airbnb is a website where people post their house for rent and a renter sees and books it
I always wonder why a company like that, which is basically a website, requires 1000s of people and a huge HQ
it’s correctly summed up in the last sentence of this. he got very very lucky and was quick to leverage it.
I do not think airbnb business was ever in threat. its a foolproof business model. this company can be the next Amazon. I mean look people would want to go out and holiday. And I think people would prefer renting individual properties for space, convenience and privacy rather than go for hotels where you have to be set choices both in terms of lodging and food and service. I would always prefer to rent an airbnb than a hotel. I think in future hotels would be for business and official stays and airbnb would take up the pleasure category. staying in an airbnb also brings the extra charm of exploring somebody else's house and new structures.
just a correction. it will be the next Apple. Not Amazon. AirBNB is more focused on single service whereas Amazon is more diversified. I see levels of 300-400 levels in the next 4-5 years.
I don’t understand why their costs are soooo huge. You’re an app. You don’t have stores and all the costs of properties is carried by their users.
Marketings, security, servers, layers, headquarters...
Add to that buying small business that you can't see, websites, tourists companies...
There are a lot of things going behind the curtain in the financial world.

They were at risk, after buying millions on items not related to the business, instead of reinvesting that back into the company

@@PandabearFPS I've lookt, they performed well bringing 2,5 billion in profit despite the pandemic, guess investors are optimistic that it will only go better from here on, my last recall on Airbnb is from spring when they were in trouble
The markets are flush with money right now. Imo this was particularly a good timing for airbnb to ipo given this and their dire need for cash. Probably they are also very well aware that in the near future we will assist a correction in the market.
Airbnb has a great service. Provide people who like to share their house and experiences to people who like to travel.
I go to a hotel or motel to sleep and that's all. But with airbnb the hosts are marvelous, they give tips of the local place and where and what to eat.
I've spent a whole dinner talking to a host and it was very entertaining.

Agree with Art Emis. You can't just pluck valuations out of the sky. A company to compare Airbnb with is Expedia - Expedia 9 bn revenue vs Airbnb revenue 4.7 billion, Expedia loss 320million vs Airbnb loss in 9 months 674 million, Expedia market cap 17.4 billion, Airbnb market cap $100 billion + . There is clearly a problem here. Airbnb is not come automation robotics new- energy transportation platform or online shopping global web services cloud behemoth, instead its an app that sells holidays and accommodation and takes a cut of the room rate.

I've been expecting this IPO for so long. There's a lot of potential, the hosts houses and experiences are so much better than motels and hotels.
In europe there's a lot of people searching for airbnb houses and new experiences like caravans and boats. And if you go to tailand or vietnam there's paradise like houses so cheap.
Airbnb is a great investment for the long run

In Q3 2020, they made $219 million in profit. However they did lose money in the first few months in the pandemic
