- Oldschool Runescape is going to be receiving some massive balancing changes. This will change so much about the game including content, skilling, monster defense and much more.

Probably the single biggest change jagex is making is to how ranged and magic interact with monster defenses. I'd definitely recommend reading through the blog after this video to see all the minor changes.

I love that they are working on early/mid game stuff, considering how many hundreds of hours it takes to pass the mid game it’s great to see those of us with only 1-2hrs a day to play get some love
I finally got out of the mid game after 3 years of being in it with that schedule and getting 99 slayer next weekend! (200k to go)
@@ithetopdawg9290u call that mid game ?Welp im fkd
yaaaa lets make new accounts when old school runescape dies with updates and they have to come out with old school runescape 2
@@MrRonniecosmo what
Get good
"If an enemy is weak to stab you might bring an abysmal whip".
Had to replay that 2 or 3 times to make sure I heard that right
😂😂 sounds like solid advice huh
literally did the same thing then scrolled down to see if anyone commented about that
Just started the video and I’ll be listening for this. But yea the abysmal whip sounds about right once you get the fang. I hate hitting a train of 0’s
hes a good troll, you gotta give him that.
I just hear Abyssal, no matter how much I replay @2:25
That defense change proposition sounds incredible. I've always thought that different magical elements should be BIS in different situations. Fire giants, for example, should get absolutely wrecked by water spells and heavily resist fire spells.
Done right, this could be HUGE for osrs and, as you said, make a ton of weapons viable.
Panic buy elemental staves and tomes of water/fire!
i had so many fire giant tasks during leagues and was thinking exactly this while spamming them with Fire Wave. Like, this shouldn't be really effective on them lmao if anything aren't I healing them?
The defense change sounds absolutely horrible. They changed the way HP works and that's when it started becoming RuneScape 3 I don't know why you would ever want your defense reworked. It's been perfectly fine for years., look how crappy RuneScape 3 has become you should be protesting updates in the name of Old! If you agree with the updates I think you're just a RuneScape 3 player.
Hilarious to me that this was literally a massive part of the EoC update that caused the OSRS RS3 split in the first place.
But personally yes i agree, nice to see them port this over while leaving the ability bar crap behind
@@RokketLiveHere That wasn't the reason why EoC was hated
@@drcakeman you misunderstand RS3's weaknesses and what these changes will mean for OSRS. making OSRS more like RS3 in the ways that RS3 excels is not bad. the reflexive "this reminds me of RS3 and therefore this is bad" is incredibly smallminded, and will kill your game in the long run. open your mind a little.
I read through the blog when it came out this morning but I really enjoy how easy your videos are to follow with the important information
One of the benefits of leagues being successful is it gives Jagex a real excuse to fine-tune early/mid-game instead of having to only worry about keeping the end-game players engaged. Right now we're in the best OSRS timeline and I'm here for it
My only desire is leagues happening more often. It love the ironman aspect of the game but don't have tremendous amounts of time to really truly grind it out on an ironman. Leagues character boosts (xp, damage, drop rates etc) are really fun to me as a mostly solo player because it lets me tackle content I don't normally, and also forces me to think creatively since the GE isn't an option.
Best osrs timeline… did you start playing last month? 😂
True
@@irollup6240 Yeah idk about "best", but you gotta admit osrs been going hard ever since TOA in terms of updates and blogs of what's to come
glad i'm investing time in this new main after all these years tbh
As someone who has been in the early-mid game for years I appreciate that jagex is looking at changes at a greater scope than endgame.
Also I remember as a kid thinking other players must be idiots because surely fire spells wouldn't work on fire breathing dragons or the dragons MADE of lava, so I would be interested in the new defense
RS3 has elemental weaknesses and range type weaknesses and its extremely flavorful. Metal dragons are weak to water magic for example and chromatic dragons are weak to bolts but have high defensive stats which is why dragonhide armor is tank gear in that game.
We made a clan to help people escape mid game in a clam atmosphere. Nice and chill raids learn at your own pace and no flaming. If your interested drop your rsn and keep private on and ill get someone to get you in to help ya
@@blsg7211rsn: sbpsr. Ty.
@@hansongorham9494one of the things i hated in rs3 was the complexity. The defense mechanics in osrs works fine, it’s simple. It doesn’t make sense to mess with what works.
@@GoochigoopI think it makes a lot of sense in terms of modernity. The game is as simple or complex as you want it to be. Although I think there needs to be a better job of communicating certain aspects of the game to the player it's actually an incredible game
Thank you for these videos. Rarely see the updates on the website so these game update videos really make understanding updates easier.
This is such a huge change to combat you could almost go so far as to call it an _evolution_
Alteration of Combat, perchance?
A new skill, too.
:/ they keep displaying that they didnt learn anything.
@@crazykhespar8487 I was just making a joke, tongue and cheek reference to EoC. I honestly think this change will be really good and I can see Sailing being really good too. Already OSRS is far different to RS2 and it’s a good thing that it is, it needed to be by now or it would have died ages ago. If we were to go back and compare RS2 to OSRS the quality of life updates and amount of fun and engaging content would be obvious from the start. Not saying I don’t love RS2.
Genuinely, I think they should bring back Dungeoneering but as a minigame and even introduce a number of lower to mid-level dungeons across the map, maybe Daemonheim could just be a reference 🤷♂️
I’d love to see them expand on Miscellania too as so much content has been added to the game it would be cool if we got a new quest to expand what we can do with the kingdom.
I feel like OSRS could grow so much more than it already has and still feel old school. We only recently beat 200,000 players online, RuneScape could be about to enter a true renaissance period.
Edit: I just wanted to add, OSRS is what RS3 should have been.
Jagex has called things the wrong terms before. Remember dungeoneering, the minigame?
OG Alert
This is probably what evolution of combat should have been. They are maintaining the integrity of the game and how it functions while adding new content and updating the old. This is how great game developing is done. Obviously it hasn’t passed the polls so maybe this is all for not but still great to see how creative our devs are.
Thank god! finally the different weaknesses and weapon types have a reason to exist. i thought they were heading in this direction when they made the big update to hammer weapons. but it wasn't enough. this is gonna be huge
It would be easier, maybe better to pin ranged weapons onto the melee weapons attack style weakness. Obby rings/thrownaxes doing slash damage, arrows and darts being pierce, and chins being crush for some examples. It would be easier to track and make more sense than heavy/light ranged attack categories
Honestly everything I heard from this vid (haven't looked at the blog) sounds amazing.
I firmly believe osrs needs reworks to make dead content viable instead of new content. Sounds like the osrs team really knows what they're doing.
---I hope bot busting gets better too, then we would enter a golden age of runescape.
Agreed 100%. This is exactly the kind of changes OSRS needs. Less emphasis on endgame/new content, and more exploring and enriching the plethora of content that already exists. The world of OSRS has so much potential, and I’m excited when I see stuff like this.
They really need to make skills profitable again like woodcutting for example, I remember cutting magic trees back in the day and logs were way more than 968 gp
@@Hotbox-Igoos I also completely agree with that! Most skills in the game are no longer profitable because the way PvM drops have been structured and the way the game has been oriented to accommodate Iron Men through loot drops. Most items that made skilling profitable should be removed from the loot tables (or made significantly rarer/fewer per drop), so that most skilling can serve a purpose again.
@@Sanguivorewhat a terrible take
@@DJ1NS4N1TY What a constructive response. Thank you!
Thank god as an iron I've kept literally as much stuff as possible like all my ammo types, this is gonna be such a fun change
I've kept everything except Javelins, never got the Tail in the around 3k Gorillas I killed for Zenyte set so just alched/dropped everything. Hope I won't be missing a Ballista for some PvM.
@hare5179 took me 1,583 kc for my first Zenyte, I had to get back at them with their own weapons lmao
@@hare5179 who the hell mains javelins as main weapon is question, like in all my years of rs including way before rs3, not many mained javelins as main weapon if anything they was junk left on floor.
Fk irons you guys coulda been normal acc but chose for the restrictions and are now crying about it
It's funny because they're making it more like rs3
I wish they brought something from post 2007 RS, where you could sit to restore run energy faster. It didnt make pots useless, because you couldnt use it to run away, and its still slower than just potting. But it could make a grind faster than just walking while you wait for your run energy to come back up.
not to mention the absolute vibes from sitting and chilling with other players at the different music players or bonfires
@@stevfesttv1200 yeah, it was like a break from the fast paced grind where you just did nothing for a few seconds, and just chilled or chat to other people.
I was JUST about to comment something similar. Bring in resting and just make it so higher agility levels make you rest faster, so agility is useful but not completely necessary to enjoy the game. Nobody wants to grind graceful for 10+ hours and wear the exact same thing as everyone else in the world just because you’re tired of walking everywhere. It would be dope to the fashionscape scene cause everyone’s chillin in their favorite gear. Graceful ruins the game IMO
Just get graceful and pots lol
@@FantasiePolitiek how would graceful and pots be an alternative to graceful and pots, or a way to socialize with other players? please elaborate.
Elemental weaknesses might be a good idea. Especially because with the current game in its state magic isn't really used a lot on any bosses because they all have strong magic resistances. Melee and Range usually take center stage. But if you made a monster weak to specific types of magic it may open it up.
Give my earth spells some love 🤣
Earth wind so far for crumble endead f2p the only one
i still wonder what elements the tridents and end game staffs have , like sea should be water, swamp would be earth shadow would of course be air and sanguinesti fire?
@@ageofampire2the fucked up thing to me that makes no sense is why is the trident of seas charged with fire runes instead of water runes? I wonder if they will change that too.
@@RoastedToastedPoops kodai wand would be the reason , also i believe there will be ''5'' elements : air, water, earth, fire and normal magic , because otherwise they would have to pretty much always base the next magic weapons on different elements depending on what content they release , also they would be forced to release waaaaay more magic weapons overall
Dang these changes are pretty exciting! Ganna be fun spreading out the useful gear list
The defense rework sounds like a seriously interesting and high quality update. Cant wait.
we really dont know the quality till they do it
@@zzzzzzzzzsz It's the current way RS3 NPC weaknesses works so we can extrapolate. I think it'll be good.
This is taking me back to the promethium spear binding meta during early dungeoneering because it had stab slash and crush. Hope this doesn't open the door to.. you know... EOC type changes.
Osrs was made simply because a majority of people didn't like eoc. Rs3 already exists, what's gonna happen? Rs3.2.0v?
I was thinking the same, but this is different. In the context of RuneScape these changes fundamentally make sense and it's not an overhaul of the current system but more so adding to what could have easily been implemented during the conception of RuneScape and no one would have thought different. I applaud jadgex for the way they have handled the design of OSRS, and I'm impressed. It's no wonder why more and more players are coming back, and new ones are joining. The content they have been providing is something that isn't much seen by game developers of today. People want to criticize Jadgex for their past mistakes which is fair, but then you must recognize the mass amounts of quality updates they have provided. Honestly, I think the OSRS community is spoiled and very much entitled because you DO NOT SEE this type of relationship between game developers and a community that OSRS has created but as the same time this is why OSRS has become what it is today for the simple fact of having unique collaboration between these two parties.
@VaudeVi11eVi11ain what he means is changing the game enough to cause another mass exodus
Jagex is asking the player base about mtx in osrs... It's money, and they want it... @@VaudeVi11eVi11ain
Very keen to finally see the elemental magic make sense besides a stopgap until you unlock the fire variant
When it comes to the defense changes for NPCs the first thing that came to mind was how this will effect the economy in OSRS and how this will bring fluctuation to a larger variety of gear since they are talking about multiple styles for magic and ranged
My exact thoughts as well 😊
loving the early game balances
This was a really informative video. Thank you very much for the upload!
Run energy was single handedly the thing that drowe me off the osrs as new player
Where are you running to as a new player lmao.
@@I_enjoy_some_things Everywhere? F2P quests have you go back and forth constantly, especially if you aren't following guides and bring everything in advanced.
This is an amazing change always found it weird melee was the only one with 3 defense stats.
And air, water, earth spells are instantly outclassed by fire once you get the level. Always felt like wasted potential
@@stove.d Heavy agree. And using fire strike on a fire giant makes 0 sense. Same w/ lava dragon.
They should go even more in-depth on this by separating out weaknesses to ancients versus standard spellbook spells. If you don’t have ancients you can still utilise the elemental spells but for example, if a specific monster is 25% weak to water spells it would be 50% weak to ice spells. Could really be fleshed out even more than what has been proposed
Actually liked these ideas and changes. They should bring back the "rest" option for running that existed after 2007 ish.
The defense proposal is basically in line with how rs3 does type weaknesses, which is pretty alright
I hope we get the sit Option back for run energy
YES! I’m honestly surprised they haven’t implemented that yet. Not only did it feel good to have a free, on-demand way to casually increase regen on run energy, it was also really immersive to be able to just sit wherever you want to and chat with friends and stuff.
I remember when I was a kid when rs2 was brand new and RS1 was phased out and required members to log into that I thought elemental attacks had an effect because it just seemed right
Ie water spells versus fire giants, fire versus moss ect
They did add this feature in the game in rs2 a long time ago I remember, so you probably remember that. Moss giants were weak to fire etc. they’re just now bringing the increase in weaknesses to promote the weapon/spell change.
Looks like some great changes. Glad they're rebalancing the older content
I hope they rebalance the rune cost on god spells. They're iconic, but hardly ever used outside pking from the insane rune cost vs ibans etc.
Sara should do more damage on demons
Guthix on undead
Zam on humans
This makes em usefull again.
The weakness system to me as a RS3 player seems like they are just bringing over the RS3 system honestly.
Elemental weaknesses, range style weaknesses (arrows, bolts, thrown).
Honestly it's a good system that opens up alot of cool boss mechanics and works well.
Could be wrong of course but it's one that I think once everyone gets used to it, they will enjoy it, especially when it starts being actively used for boss mechanics.
RS3 has a few good features that are sadly waaay overshadowed by the insane MTX we have over here.
After recently getting back into OSRS I've definitely noticed that they're not really brining in rs2/3 content per se but definitely repurposing it to "fit in to" old school. Like the bonfires & resting with forestry, thralls (reminded me of dreadnips), Demonic Gorillas which are basically reworked tormented demons, the gauntlet basically being dungeoneering etc.
I started playing in 05' but my favorite times playing RS were between 2008- mid 2012 and definitely miss some of the content from that era of the game.
@@WreckedRevival gauntlet is nowhere close to being dungeoneering... I'm hoping the new content coming up will have some dungeoneering-like stuff because i know a lot of people like me absolutely loved that stuff. It could totally fit into sailing or into varalaamore activities somewhere, just not as a skill but a rather a mixed skill training activity.
I found the RS3 elemental and range weakness too complex, one of the reasons I left RS3 was extreme switch scape.
Infinite run with graceful!!
That would just *reinforce* the Graceful meta much, much more. That’s kinda against the point of the update.
Love weapon changes, things arent bad now but bringing something besides the meta gear set to a boss to train say ranged or magic sounds pretty refreshing
i think the idea of making magic and ranged type weaknesses is a dope idea
i suggested the change to elemental damages on forums like 12 years ago! nice to see my genius recognized
Sounds like the npc defense changes are what is currently in rs3
this is a great change. It gives me a reason to actually start over to try out weapons and spells I wouldn't usually use
I think if they change magic weaknesses, they’re also going to have to do more to even out the strength of different magical damage types. Like for instance, the reason nobody uses smoke barrage right now is because it doesn’t hit as high as ice barrage. Water waver, especially when you consider tome of fire, hits like 10 max hits less than fire wave.
to a certain extent this can be negated by artifiially raising the resistance against stronger spells even further, in places where another type of spell is sensible to use.
So for an example (pulling out numbers from my rear) air-def +50, water-def +0, earth-def +50, fire-def +75
Good updates. Love the 0-10 to 1-10 hit rate. It was always dumb you could succesfully hit a zero. not just a miss. lol. Alot of good changes. Cant wait to see them!
honestly I like it mostly because it means I *know* what caused a 0. it'll make it easier for me to tell if my accuracy is an issue (as someone still in the early-midgame who is trying to get a grasp of the math without using spreadsheets)
Similarities to rs3 way of doing weaknesses but honestly I think it might work out quite well
Oh boy, combat changes. Where have I seen this before?
In any game that has combat and updates. You don't actually think adjusting the numbers on a few monsters and items is in any way equivalent to EoC completely overhauling the system, do you?
It can certainly lead down that road though.
@@Patkilla7558 I can't fathom how without believing any of the following:
A: That the entire dev team is catastrophically incompetent to the extent of which has never been seen before.
B: They're all suffering from severe brain damage paired with amnesia, or have otherwise miraculously forgotten about the backlash to the Evolution of Combat that spawned the very game they're working on, despite referencing EoC in the post and saying they have no plans to go down that road.
C: Someone at the office might leave a window open one day, leading to a demon-posessed squirrel who is fueled by hatred for the OSRS community jumping inside and madly scrambling over multiple keyboards in precisely the correct sequence to implement a modern day MMO combat system into the game along with oddly proportioned character models and a plethora of microtransactions.
I am very happy with these proposals, but I am on the side of the fence where any and all changes are scary to me. I hope these are all polled first.
im no fan of runescape 3 but thats one of 2 features ive always wanted to see in osrs. One being the single player or multiplayer dungeoneering dungeon as it is not some odd revamped one. And Specific Weakness, like Water Spells for Fire Giants. Always wondered why they didnt as everyone just runs around in same few items all time. Will encourage so much more variety in world.
I like the idea ! Imagine a boss who can change his stats during the fight !
More dagannoth mother type bosses
I love this so much. The devs really understand their game, I'm so glad we're on good hands
Loser
One thing I find interesting is that when they mention a nerf they explain why the nerf is happening. Very transparent to the commander.
looks like im back after 5 years. good shit
At first I was resistant, but honestly, making Comp Bows/Karils Crossbow/Balista Javelins useful would be pretty cool with me. It would make getting springs and frames etc way less depressing because you didn’t get a zenyte.
The new range/magic distinction is very exciting.
Defense update sounds super sick
I like the idea regarding the defences, but will definitely make my uim harder to play requiring more weapons
Sounds like the idea is to make weaknesses more pronounced, while keeping everything else even.
So it's never a nerf basically, just that you could be more optimal.
These all sound absolutely amazing tbh. Imagine best in slot range now being masori and a heavy balista at a boss! Sounds like a lot of fun especially for late game players to now have something new to do and try all over the game
Honestly it solves so many depressing drop moments. ‘Oh what’s that? ANOTHER LIGHT FRAME? Rip’ or ‘oh my first clue reward was a magic comp bow… oh it’s useless..’ or ‘oh man ANOTHER karils xbow. Rip’
It’ll potentially turn these moments into excitement. I love that!
I'm very interested in the defence rework. Not using the same ranged weapon or spell all the time would add interesting depth to the game, without changing what this game is about.
I also think it's important for these kinds of things to start to pop up in the mid-game, so a player isn't suddenly thrown off when facing their first boss.
Agreed, hopefully I will have a reason to finally use my recently imbued magic shortbow on my iron. its always been about the same as broad bolts and rcb, but definitely more expensive to upkeep. never been worth it in my eyes. I'm excited for the light medium and heavy range defences
No. That is how we slip into rs3 territory. This is old school runescape, we don't need to make it an entirely new game by making me swap between the 4 different colors of water fire air and earth spells. when fundamentally they are the same thing. Its just a different color, but the same spell. That's not adding depth, that's adding another layer of shit you have to deal with to play. Having to follow stupid fucking type disadvantages is why i don't fuck with rs3. If i want to think hard about playing a game id go play wow. This is runescape. not a fucking 200apm game where adhd ipad kids come to hang out
@@BMXhunterWOWSeriously… I’d rather not have to worry about obtaining Javelins for a boss as an Ironman lmao.
@@BMXhunterWOW "do the exact same thing you were doing before, but clicking on a water spell instead of a fire spell" isn't some massive complexity, nor does it add any APM whatsoever. how on earth is "water spells are viable" such a massively problematic idea?
i feel like the combat update might cause the tbow/scythe/shadow to become not so strong at alot of places where they thrive
Good!
Two of those weapons have been BIS for like half of osrs lifespan - I don't see that as an issue
Who cares, I'll never own one lol.
Maybe bring down tbow but it will make the scythe more prominent in certain places
Them making changes to combat gives me PTSD from when they introduced EOC.
I just finished my agility grind up to 85 for the ardy diary. Shame I hear this now but good for everyone else that follows me now because damn agility is straight up painful.
Although I think this is a good idea this could make the game more taxing having to bring a bunch of weapons or always needing to switch. Ultimately I'm excited. IMO they should focus on the early/mid grind. Making it more fluent with gear progression making iron, steel and so on more viable and easier to obtain. Theres no reason rune is locked behind 99 smithing when low level players could really utilize it.
I don’t like how they’re looking to change such an iconic formula. It’s worked for 20+ years, the last time they wanted to significantly change combat was such a disaster that they had to create OSRS.
This is good, variety in bis depending upon situation is desperately needed
I would only support the new weaknesses if they add a beastiary of some sort so i don't need to live on the wiki page
>open beastiary
>link to the wiki
@@BananaMonkeyization Honestly, if they just did that and streamlined the whole process i wouldn't be mad, the wiki is already integrated into the game so i imagine that exact scenario would be possible
Maybe Slayer could have some kind of “Beastlore” component.
I'm watching this having heard about changes coming to osrs after not playing for 2 years I logged in to see my scythe I had bought for 500m back then be over 1b. I love using the scythe and I'm glad to see it getting some love from the devs so it's more useful out side of tob
When you were talking about the weakness changes, all I could have in my head was "Evolution of combat" o.o
Fr I'm scared now, it's like they are slowly nudging us to a main game
Yeah and it was tuned so badly they had to essentially roll it back. Regular monsters still have specific weaknesses now, but you can still kill them with other styles.
thats exactly where this is going, they are creating things unnecessarily to keep their job appearances@@rittol2365
On the other hand it's stupid that water blast doesn't do any different damage to a pyrefiend for example, I've always been one to check the wiki for a mob's defense and it's always such a small difference that I stick with the usual whip which is lame

It might work well.

Jesus Murphy this is such a good change
I havent played in a while and just came back, so i am wondering.

I am assuming since a whip cant stab, it stil goes under the stab category since it gives atk xp?
I can probaly go to google and find out but its intresting that whip have a stab option when a whip cant stab and the animation looks nothing like a stab?
Or was it an error saying to bring a whip if a monster is weak to stab?
Hope we get a say at least with these defence changes because this is too close to eoc I’m kinda not onboard
Not even close in comparison
In what way is this close to EoC at all?
RS3 literally has the exact same defense system as what's being proposed...just because they're not doing all the drastic changes all at once like EOC did, doesn't mean they're not planning on drastic changes one at a time until we get EOC@@Sanguivore
@@Potat-o I'd be incredibly surprised if Jagex would be stupid enough to sacrifice their cash-cow like that.
Elemental weakness needs to be a damage bonus. Otherwise, powered staffs will almost always be favored anyways.
As well as the damage nerf to tomes of water and fire would be pointless if the defense thing isn't a damage increase.
Rs3 has the same weakness break down so it would make sense it is comming to old school
Copypasterecolorkitscape
Personally i enjoy the skilling upgrade that is the graceful. I don’t want to remove it or lock it behind pvm content. It’s rewarding and feels great to get
I actaully love the weakness changes. Boss phases can be more diverse. Like armor needing heavy range then after cracked can be better with normal then crumbles and light would be best for the fleshy bits.
I think that weight run energy interactions should be changed but agility would literally become a firemaking tier skill if it were too forgiving
As it should. 99% of players don’t enjoy Agility, and no one should be forced to grind a skill they absolutely hate or find zero fun in. It’s literally the only skill in the game I don’t enjoy training outside of Runecrafting.
Two things I'm hoping come out of this:
1 - They add an in-game way to actually know what enemy defenses and weaknesses are, because right now all we have for that is the wiki.
2 - We get a new Armory room added to the POH to help store and organise all the different weapons we'll now need to keep on hand.
Monster Examine Spell from the Lunar spellbook does what you're describing in number 1. But for number 2, agree, an armory would be nice.
@@stooge389 sure but that requires you being on the lunar spellbook
Which is fine, but its not really an offensive book
@@stooge389 Ah thank you for correcting me there. I've not unlocked that spellbook myself yet and it's not a spell I see CZcamsrs generally using, so I wasn't aware of it.
That does then make me think it'd be nice if the game had something like a Bestiary that'd get gradually filled out as you Monster Examined each creature, so you could then refer back to the monster's stats later without going out and Examining them again.
I like the magic type weaknesses but not the ranged one. Sounds tough trying to make it more enticing to bring a blowpipe with darts > a bofa or tbow
As an UIM I am kind of scared about the changes to weapon weaknesses, because we just don't have enough spaces to bring an assortment of weapons with us to get the job done, but at the same time I understand that the game shouldn't be balanced around us, hence why the game is never balanced around IM either.
I'm a 0 con xp uim so I have no storage, this could suck lol
i am midgame main and i als dnt have the perfect weapon for everything. thats why I think this is actually better for me. instead of universal high magic/range defense, monsters can have less defense for a certain type.
I think it's fine, if you're uim you're probably not playing rs to be hyper efficient in time so you probably can just keep camping whip/fang/bolts. kills might be a bit slower but the truth is that most things die to everything they aren't immune to if you're persistent enough. of course bosses are the rare exceptions but if you plan to camp a boss/raid for real you currently have to first get something to camp it efficiently anyway don't you ?
Yeah i have a low def Ironman that can’t use all styles… terrifying. Guess minorities though and who cares etc etc
Who cares about uim your just a geek be glad you can even vote
monster elemental and different range defenses is awesome, more inline with other RPGs
been wanting the elemental one since i started playing rs2 back in 2008
We definitely need beta worlds and a TON of testing and balancing, because this is huge, but I can get behind this. I love that ranged and mage is simpler and it's a good balance, so maybe we shouldn't, but this makes so much sense for the game, logically. It would be harder for new players to learn, but would technically make more sense, so might be more intuitive. It'll make it so some monsters don't need to resist mage and ranged entirely, so it could help the world make more sense. It's gonna need to be tested a lot before we say yes. Also, getting rid of the 0 hit on thr accuracy splat makes me consider making a new account even more. Its nice to have the early/mid stuff get some love, that part of the game needs work and determines how many new players stay. .
I like some of these changes. I am also hoping that they will add a few mage items to F2p since mages only have lvl 1 gear.
Mystic and Splitbark maybe? Also Elemental Battlestaves would be a nice addition.
@@jasebas9941 They are not F2P.
@@syzg he's saying they should make them f2p
Hell yes, I hope so.
F2p has nothing in terms of magic gear progression while melee and ranged do.
Heck, even if they made salad robes and mystic f2p I would be happy.
@@jasebas9941 I agree. I think f2p mages should get salad robes too, like PaladinfffLeeroy mentioned. If I had to choose between f2p mages mystic or splitbark, I would rather give them splitbark, since it has melee defense, and it would reinforce their role on the combat triangle.
Since F2p rangers already have a crossbow, but it is useless compared to the maple shortbow, I would want to give metal crossbows up to mithril to f2p rangers. I would also consider giving them snakeskin armor, but that might be a bit much.
For F2p melee, I would want to give them claws and spears up to rune. These weapons are nearly useless, so I would want to give them a buff. Edit. I would also give halberds up to rune to f2p.
I remember when they did this with RuneScape 2(or 3 I can’t remember). It was absolutely a fantastic change. Everyone knew dragons were weak to range and stab attacks, but having a definite ‘use a crossbow’ changed the way we thought about defense. Same with elemental weaknesses. Ice creatures being weak to fire spells and crush attacks seems like the obvious scenario. But lo and behold it’s not always the case.
Skeletons should be crush earth thrown hammers
Flesh enemies or gellat slash fire thrown axes
Stuff like that.
I feel like I remember this all back when it went to rs3 just about all I'm worried about but I guess we will see
It would be cool to see more weapons and armours. Maybe lvl 1 defense armour and higher attack stats for PK
how would the elemnt weakness effect say like powered staves or ancients and other spellbook spells tho?
So what does this mean for power staves like the trident and sanguine if the magic weakness will only cover elemental? I think they are playing with fire here.
Nice info vid.
bro, you know how many times i right click the run bar to rest, but theres no rest option, just make a rest option lol
Lol I also did that for years thinking to myself wtf why not but I eventually stopped and put all my hopes in stam pots lol
Overall, I support 80% of the recommended changes, but there are definitely a few in there that I am unsure about. For example, with magic-type weaknesses. how will that work for spells such as Ibans Blast -Tumekens shadow? I also don't think the ancient godsword should be debuffed - its current special attack is on par with the sara godsword. Lastly, even with the proposed price decrease the scythe is still too damn high to use compared with the shadow or Tbow.
I'm sure they could just add a type to the spells like that. Maybe fire for iban's blast and air for slayer dart, something like that
Built-in spells should be applicable to all weaknesses as it should warrant going out of your way to complete the content to obtain the special item
They should leave ancient gs alone its only slightly better than sgs
Hope the change is only for pvp and not pvm
Im really curious how the defence changes play together with the new varlamore midgame gear thats coming out in the near future
This defense rework sounds amazing!
I'm curious how the elemental weaknesses will play with powered staves and non elemental spells like from the arceuus book
This is gonna be overwhelming, imagine having to refer to the wiki even more than we already do now just to look at all the weakness attributes of each foe
Or god forbid, have an actual use for the Monster Examine spell
It should be pretty obvious what it's weak to if it's a big enough change. If you're stressed about a 0.2% dps, then yeah read wiki.
For example, playing leagues, I don't need a DPS calc to know when intensify prayer is better than the augury equivalent with a damage boost. It's pretty obvious based on the amount of splashes I'm hitting or not hitting.
If I’m being honest, it’s players with your mentality (and let me stress that I was until recently very much the same way) that ruin the game and the reason why we no longer actually have fun when we play this shit. Instead of trying to enjoy content with curiosity and exploration in mind, the update is not even out and you’re already talking about referring to the wiki for optimization. That’s the reason why 10 year old me in 2005 had so much fun with this game and now it feels like a chore, a bygone of a better time. The main difference is that back then we played and discovered everything on our own or a friend told us about it, either way we experienced it first hand and had so much fun. Nowadays whenever something is released a bunch of people flock to youtube and the wiki for strats and optimization and by the time they tackle the content they have already robbed themselves of the novelty and pleasure of watching something happen for the first time. How about you simply play on your own and give yourself the chance to experience what the people that actually make the game intended for you to try, without guides or someone else’s input telling you how to play the game? It’s a sandbox, do your own thing
@@davidcoelho9241it’s players like you who left rs3 to ruin osrs 😂
This is why I am happily paying for my subscription service. Hats off to the game developers for actively listening and re-evaluating the game based on majority of the customer profile and needs.
I’d just like to walk into a town in RuneScape an actually feel I’m in a town npc should be talking to each other and roaming around a little bit further then there designated shops more interaction an maybe even npc getting in trouble by guards etc
That'd be cool. A little bit would go a long way
The new accuracy check is going to speed up my DFS pure like crazy
The accuracy change early game is great, that's an interesting compromise to RS3's approach of Constitution which multiplied all health by 10, which was for some reason super controversial.
I swear some people have never taken their graceful off. Not once.
This is the *real* evolution of combat
I want to see weapons like the darkbow become viable in pve, maybe with a tier 80 modifier or something
So they're going to take the RS3 route with magic/ranged defence but hopefully better done? I don't hate it.
I used to love the Fire Emblem games. Then the modern ones got rid of the weapons triangle and it wasn't the same. It would be so cool to see it implemented into RS!
So the combat weaknesses will essentially be what RS3 has, just with a different naming convention on the ranged styles, and probably a different margin for correct/neutral/incorrect use to suit the ability less meta.
The defence resistances and weaknesses has been in rs3 for a while now. They already have every mob balanced around it so they don't have too much work to do on that front.
Because of all these combat changes, it'll force us to have to carry a lot more variety of equipment for weaknesses. Which means, inventory space will be pretty tight. I hope they will also re-design the inventory system by giving us more space or a separate inventory for combat items or something.
