That doesn't really make sense. His past being a lie just makes his development pointless. He developed before he learned it was a lie so it didn't matter. Now if he learned it was a lie before he developed, while still dumb in it's own way, it'd be much more conflicting and make him really evaluate why he hates Humagears.

@@timepatroleren2895 it's more like "find a new reason". His life is returned to him, so it's his full personal freedom at that point. Taking away the pain of his fake past reinforces his decision to help Aruto's quest and reinforces his belief (which we now can see is literally what his character is - a Double style protector hero). Rider One is totally right. He had all this emotion built on sand, and it's really sad that he let it ruin his whole life. This is also a meta-commentary on the Japanese job system in which people are expected to be so devoted to their company that they die at their desk often enough that we have a word for it. Zaia stole the entire lives, and even free will, of Fuwa and Yaiba. When he got it back, he realized there was nothing left. He had to let go of his family because he was so fundamentally changed, and it was all based on a lie. Super sad, and very impactful. Yaiba's story might have been even more harsh had they shown literally anything about her personal life, but let's not pretend that Toei or Japan care about or respect women.

the final arc ties the themes of the season perfectly imo. ark being an embodiment of the malice and hatred that can maifest in any sentient life is PERFECT.
I love that the final conflict is built up as the threat itself- and no matter who would've won, it seemed that the fight between the two arks would mean that everyone loses. it drives home the message that conflict itself is the enemy of peace and goodness, and it's a theme I especially love seeing in such a battle-centered genre of storytelling.

Tbf to Aruto, there is a difference between the hacked magia of the metsuboujinrai arc and the berserk magia in the zaia arc (and even the singularity arc). In the first arc Aruto quickly gets the resolve to take down the hacked magia because he is informed that they were forced into being monsters against their will and cannot be restored from that state. Meanwhile, the humagear who turn into magia without being hacked do so essentially of their own volition, albeit usually as a result of not knowing how to control this entirely new emotion of rage. We even meet a humagear, the matchmaker one, who premeditated his transformation into a magia and his subsequent destruction and ended up being one of the few, if not only, humagear who remember being a magia. I feel it was totally within Aruto's character to try reason with these magia that weren't hacked, but instead chose to become magia.

In all honesty, I really enjoyed Zero-One. Yes, it has it flaws (what rider show... scratch that, what SHOW doesn’t), but they don’t overlap the good that was in this series. Aruto is the most connected I’ve been to a Kamen Rider, not just cause we’re the same age (and born the same month can you believe that?!) but we have such a similar personality that I could see myself reacting the same way he did. Izu was just a gem to watch on screen and her development was so good, 10/10 wifu (and that opinion will never change I love this girl). Fuwa has become probably my favorite secondary rider of all time, as his character development is great overall. Yes, the reveal of his past being fake was stupid, but it didn’t hinder the story to much so I’ll let it slide. While Yuiba did have a lot that could have happened for her (and also have more then two rider forms) I do like her change from seeing humagears as tools to seeing them as people. And she’s still badass. Jin’s development was also really good, as he went from basically being a child doing what his parent (Horobi or Arc) told him to do, to a full on adult after getting brought back, thinking for himself and making his own path. Horobi’s change was also pretty good and seeing him finally act more human and his scenes in the last few episodes were really good as well. Gai, while I did hate with with a burning passion at first, wasn’t my most hated character in the end. Yes, his resolve was kinda rushed (due to the pandemic cutting away some episodes), but I think they accomplished what they were trying to do, showing he use to be a happy kid even with the mess of a world around him, but his father molding him into this “business first feelings never” attitude really shows were his mean personality came from. If they had more time, they could have flushed out the resolve, but I didn’t hate it as many people did. And I also enjoyed the end so much, and that fact that everything is not over yet, with the threat if the Arc, Azu, and the new Kamen Rider Eden now out their, it leaves an open ending until the movie and I can’t wait. Overall, 8.5/10 season for me

This is, to me, legitimately the best Rider Series that’s happened in the past 15 years.
Solid character writing, consistent tone, well-developed and earned character arc (with the exception of Amatsu Gai), and just a thoroughly thought out theming down through all of the suits.
Each particular arc brings together a different perspective to bring to light dissenting opinions to understand the gravity of how Aruto’s dream is fighting an uphill battle.
I would disagree that the first arc is the most solid- the first act, honestly, seems like the most quaint in terms of what the show has to say. But every arc has something to offer.

While there were some points in the show that were a bit show, ei us beating up Thouser for 8 episodes, there was never a point that I really hated it.
I also want to say that Aruto and Izu’s relationship is one of my favorites in the franchise and I am glad they didn’t bring back the original Izu at the first end. It kinda brings the series full circle to the beginning.
My Favorite characters of this season are Fuwa, first quarter Jin, and Aruto. Fuwa has gone down as my second favorite rider of all time and I love him so much. I learned about Kamen Rider a few years ago, but didn't actually start watching it until last year where I watched Kiva due to curiosity stemming from talking about Seto Koji in a Japanese presentation. As I continued to watch different seasons (out of order btw) I slowly started learning about the 'Rider Culture' and how everything works. When I started, Zero One had 5 episodes out. I'm not usually one to follow along with a series as it airs, but something about it just caught my interest and fascination. The fighting Choreo being so well organized, the suit designs being so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing to look at, and the characters being so relatable and fun, everything about Zero One was just so cool! And now I own two drivers (zero one driver and shotriser), a couple of progrizekeys, and two figurines. While watching Zero One's Gai Arc, I really really wanted Yaiba to be Gai's Daughter and I didn't really understand Why, but now I do and it's because a familial loyalty would be the only thing that would actually explain her Actions and be interesting, the impact of her continously repeating to herself that she is not a Tool would make more sense and be a far more emotional and compelling expression of turmoil in the face of a fathers sociopathy (It would also be a nice reminder that bad parenting can come full circle). Mind Control was such a disappointing and lazy cop out. Another gripe that I can not get over is how Gai just hands over 3 of the most powerful forms of the main riders and proceeds to get his ass kicked Several consecutive weeks because of it.

One of the best things about Zero-One, for me, was how they landed on their feet during COVID. It was the finale that helped me to see the contrast between hope and despair, love and hate, trust and distrust. Even with the change in routine and the blows that came with it, I felt that the show was still allowed to be what it wanted to be (something that other shows like Ohranger and Pokémon: Best Wishes failed to do under similar circumstances).

I loved Zero One, it was overall a great season that I can definitely recommend to anyone getting into the series.
Although I want to refute on the Competition arc, while yes it may be to most the bad part of Zero One. I believe it was a solid arc that helped expand on most of the realistic ideas of Humagears working in human environment. Because while they're first half did explain and build all that, it didn't quite explore the human side of things where yes there are bad people like the Raidraiser users, there's also good people like the Fireman Captain. And yes Gai sabotaging even though it's stated he doesn't like it is dumb on the surface it all boils down back to the "Corrupt Businessman" he is and the backstory of him needing complete dominance in something, he puts his company before the people and the saying "You're only guilty if you're caight" is very true for him.
If it weren't for that arc, I feel the final arc wouldn't have been as great as it was. Because the culmination is a two sides of the same coin finale. And with learning both the good and evils of both sides it made it all the more satisfying to see a perfect conclusion to the show.

The main issue I have is that there are just too many merchandise and unnecessary forms when they can give them to other rider (like yaiba and thouser can get a better upgrade)
Meanwhile there are forms in the show that got abandoned after sometime they release or have no relationship to the plot what so ever (like zero 2 was only used for one - 2 fight and then its gone, aruto uses ark zero and then realzing hopper or jin burning falcon form, sure can say he need an upgrade but then judging by how horobi say that humangear can use learning to enhance their fighting style, I don't see why Jim really need the burning falcon form )
Thouser creating rampage gatling and cluster hopper without a sort of failsafe, resulting in them just given away to other, plus the sudden inserting of a tragic back story with the robo dog just felt rushed, atfirst he say humangear are unnecessary yet the show later make it feel like he actually like hiden and the humangear (if we count the dog as one)
Overall I just feel like with how kamen rider releasing so so much many unnecessary, form, rider just to sell more toys and p Bandai stuff is honestly disgusting me, making it as if the show is like a big ass ad
and I kind of want to disagree putting this above W like sure if
we compare the 2 series they are kind of the same with more filler but then alot of time the filler in zero one doesn't really help in aruto developing his character or simply repetitive meanwhile W each time the cases are unique and actually added on to character development (like how when Philip and shotaro had doubt on their partnership, accel learning about his past and stuff) while zero one is usually just say how humangear are mistreated and all aruto does is just shouting, saying its not the right way and suddenly somehow defeat the villian

I don't mind if a series have like upgrade forms but when it make sense or how they are given to the character make sens (like ex aid it had the leveling system, Dan kuroto turns good and created muteki to go against chronos while build we have stronger enemies then sento/katsuragi create stronger henshin gear or driver )
Meanwhile in zero one at the first few episodes was solid but right jin first death, the company war just kinda throws me off and I agree that fuwa was kind of wasted when his memory was told to be a lie (tho honestly her would have worked better as a main character consider how much development he had from early, mid and end of series while aruto only grow some sense in him by the end)

honestly i think that if this show didn't have such production trouble due to coronavirus and have to rush really hard through its final arc, i think this could've been a classic kamen rider series. there are so many likeable characters, great ideas, and cool plot points that it feels like a lot of them just didn't get the room they needed to bloom into a more well-realized, complete whole. what we got instead was an incredibly strong first third, a slow and formulaic second third with absolutely no consequence that made all of the stakes that the arc built tension on feel like a massive waste of time (but some pretty good character development, world building and plot twists, so that's something), and a third leg full of awesome moments and great ideas that was sadly let down by having to blow through all of it in so few episodes. overall there was more than enough to love about it though, very memorable and distinct. solid 7/10

Uhh, i think with Fuwa, his fake traumatic past is what makes he special.
Yes, his past is fake, so what, do he need it to go on? No! In that episode, Fuwa clearly said his past is no longer important to him, he has move on in life.
That’s also contrast what Yaiba thought he would react, as a person who saw how literally the entire reason Fuwa live and fight was because of that past, and assumed he would collapse without it (shown cleary by how regret she felt when knew the truth). But no, thank to Aruto, he has go over it, and focus on what he want to be, rather than who he was.
Fuwa to me is a interesting take on the “character with dark past” motif, and successful in it, as show in the love for him in the fandom.

thomasjujube well, it’s not neccessary, but still contribute to his character in a unique way (yes, this is the first time i saw “fake past” and “traumatic past” plot points being used this way).
It doesn’t ruining his character arc or his development before, and even enhances his growth through out the series (along with the debut of the form symbolize that, Rampage Vulcan).
Not only that, it’s also a very good way to push Yaiba to the point of betray Gai Amatsu. She thought that Fuwa would break because how his entire purpose in life was because of that past, but he didn’t. That past, fake or real is not important. He no longer be a puppet of that past, of Gai Amatsu anymore. That made she has to look at herself again, to see what she actually fighting for.

In other ways, I see it playing into his whole deal with living my his own rules and moving forward, regardless of what happens. The same way that Vulcan doesn’t wait for authorization to transform and just forces his Progrise Keys open, he pushes through his feelings and his disappointments to be his own man and to live his own life. I feel like Vulcan was fighting the issues in front of him AND the writing (figuratively) and won against both.

Aruto makes for a superb rider and character and the villains are for the most part, pretty good. There’s missed opportunities but not enough to totally sour the show for me. Personally I would say that I love this season and would probably watch it again and again (probably not as much as I have with Ex-aid and drive but it still was a very good season) and honestly the character that was probably put together the best in my mind even though they weren't actually as good as I thought they were was Ark. Ark provided a good final challenge for the heroes and villains as it gave them a very powerful foe that they had to unite to defeat. Also they actually played with the spoiling of the Ark-one form to a T as they basically let the form itself be spoiled through magazines which had people(or at least me) thinking that it was going to be a upgrade to ark itself which led the reveal of Aruto actually being the one who transformed be a major plot twist. The fact that Ark basically became the symbol of malice is what makes Ark such a difficult opponent to really beat as its very hard to beat malice, sure you can possibly beat it out of someone, but it will probably rise again in someone else (aka Kamen Rider Eden) where you basically have to start over(although I have a feeling that Aruto will be a major help in this fight against malice since 02 and Realizing Hopper are very good tools for beating malice).

    • @mutanttepig4759
      @mutanttepig4759 Před 3 lety

Now my opinions on the unique forms that appeared in the final few episodes (Excluding Eden and any other forms appearing in the extra movie) Ark Scorpion for Horobi was a good form and a idea that was executed pretty well as basically it was a expansion on Ark Malice, his role as being the leader of the major villain faction in the series and confronting the possible fan outlash if they didn't do the thing that was hinted upon in the episode that ark-one was released. In the end it made for a good form that served its purpose; Giving Aruto a thing to beat up to serve as the ending of the series. Oroboros wolf(or whatever its called); it was a good final form for Vulcan and Naki as it was a form that showed off their friendship and it made sense for it to be their final weapon against Ark-One Aruto as it was a form that combined the capabilities of Humagear and Human alike and of course Naki and Vulcan. It being a literal fusion of Japanese Wolf and Rampage vulcan made sense since those were the two forms that were the most significant to Naki(I really want it to come back too despite the massive amount of strain that it puts on the user and driver a like... although that might just be from me liking wolves and Vulcan). Realizing Hopper; This form is a very good way to give the season a send off as this is literally an uberfied version of 01's first form which is rising hopper... that's pretty much all I really want to say about it outside of it being awesome and me wanting it to return in future movies and crossovers(koff 01 and saber koff koff).

It should also be kept in mind that Kamen Rider Zero-One was hit VERY hard from COVID-19 back when the outbreak first started and sent the whole world into a state of chaos. According to leaked interviews, the quarantine ended up costing the show 4 episodes. Four episodes that could have helped with the flaws stated in this video. Like Gai's redemption arc being more fleshed out for example. But thanks to the loss off 80 minutes of the show's runtime (ignoring commercials), Gai's redemption arc got crushed, along with many other ideas that could have made an already amazing show even more amazing.

Frankly I have a lot to say about Kamen Rider Zero One. But to keep this from being the longest comment in history, I'm going to only focus on my thoughts on the final arc: the Ark Arc. Silly name for the darkest part of the show but moving on.
This is going to sound unusual, but Covid-19 forcing Toei to cut the season short might have helped the pacing. Here me out, as you said, the Workplace Manufacturing arc went on for longer than necessary, being the most repetitive of the story arcs. I think focusing on giving Metsubojinrai.net a chance to regain the Singularity the Ark took from them, gradually resulting in everyone turing on the Ark, before the repercussions of that fight result in a personal conflict that will have larger repercussions for Humanity and Humagears as a whole, is a great idea. But because of how slow paced the previous storyline was, keeping that same momentum would have just dragged it out past the point where the audience stopped caring. If we got more episodes, then I suspect they would have just had the Ark get destroyed a couple more times, filler basically. Unsurprisingly, its the story arc that features no new monsters of the week. Because we essentially moved past that point and are trying to progress the story.
Sure its not perfect, the best way to end Amatsu's arc wouldn't be redemption, it would have been death at the hands of the Ark. His actor has compared Amatsu to Masato Kusaka from Faiz, so why not have a similar end? think about it: he's knocked out of his transformation, the Ark picks him up by the throat, holds him over it head, then neck snap. Remember Amatsu makes the characters that are literally terrorists sympathetic by being more or less responsible for their turn to evil in the first place. That's a way more fitting end for this character. And then if Toei really needed to keep Thouser in the show, have someone else take up the powers after Amatsu is killed. Done, problem solved, you can continue using this costume in future crossovers.
Also I'm not a fan of how Izu basically got fridged in the end while Jin's second death has a lot less weight since one: it wasn't the first time Aruto's killed him, and two: Unlike Izu he can be rebuilt, memories intact. Then again Horobi was driven into a far more emotional state by Azu, he might not have been thinking about that.
I realize I've been giving a lot of criticisms, but that's only because there's so much else I ended up liking about this series. I don't think there's anyone I really disliked. The choreography and cinematography is amazing Overall this was a good series as far as I'm concerned. And I have a lot of ideas for Zero One's Rider Potential as well. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm so glad you did this review. It was a good one. I have a love/hate relationship with this show. The first ark with Jin and Horobi was so good. I loved Jin as he is my 2nd favorite character in this whole show. His almost child like innocence sd me on his character and Horobi was the right amount of complex that I enjoy in a villian. The competition ark was huge let down for me. I literally skipped to the end of the episodes in that arc. I was pissed that he caused all of this trouble because of a robot dog. The end felt so rushed which I'm guessing is because of covid. I liked ark being the final villain but I wish we could have seen ark toward the beginning or in the middle.
I also did not like Yua at all. She was the weakest character in my opinion. I really felt like she was just there. I feel like she had no place in the story. I was never sure about her motives and the fact she wasn't either didn't help sell me on why I should care about her as a character. I give the show a 7.5/10.

I blame coronavirus, this series is quite okay for the situation happening around the world.

I feel the zaia vs hiden arc is improved when you watch the season after having ark's deal spoiled. In short, Ark feeds on malice and Gai knows this. You can feel your own malice growing and Aruto's toward Gai. The payoff of all of Gai's dirty tricks is when Aruto is trying to hack away at Gai, but then the Ark in Shining Assault Hopper paralyzes him, letting Gai plant the Ark Metal Cluster on him, making Ark seemingly win for once.
I also loved how Hiden lost. They lost. Zaia bought them out. Aruto is on the ropes and the status quo has changed for the worse. I love that. It slapped me silly when I reached that point and then the next episode with the new intro monologue MMM! It's clear they put care into the *Conclusion* of that *Ark*. Hai! Aruto jaaaaa naito!

Wow I like your opinion here, for me personally, the second arc is less interesting because of the repeated "competition" that ZAIA proposed but its still exciting seeing Thouser, RaidRiser and MCH, its just my opinion but I think RaidRiser prior to battle raider and fighting jackal are possibly still under development, RaidRiser and ZAIA spec are products that ZAIA HQ didn't approve of and in case you forgot, Gai Amatsu is just a branch CEO

Rewatching the series today I say it's still a solid start for a new era and for new fans of the series. The Ark One plot twist at the end of the series still gives me chills and the final battle is still nail biting. The only thing that I don't like is the ZAIA arc I kinda wished they did that more. Overall I'd give this show a rank A! (6/7)

okay I agree that the second arc could have been more interesting but given what they did set up I think it would have been better if Gui tried to use his knowledge of the Arc to tarnish Aruto by making it look like Hiden actually was cause of the these new outbreaks all while he desperately trying to stop it(which he fails) as Gui makes himself the hero WITH help from Yotagaki as he starts to make way with his new human gear with the help of the Ziai Spects which begin to get infected with the Arc a quarter way into the arc but it being Hacked used to further tarnish Hiden which would climax into Aruto needing to make his own business and leads into the Singularity arc(which makes more sense to me)
I will agree there was no need to ruin Yaiba, so I think it would have been better if she was a puppet but was someone that was having second thoughts about Ziai but learns too late they grew too strong to stop normally and started to boot up Naki as her ace instead
as for the reveal of Fuwa's memories being fabricated I say that makes sense as while he recalls it being what made him hate humangears it does address the fact that he IS stronger then what a human should be able to do(Ziai kidnapping and then making some cyborg mods so they have a "ace" till Gui thought to implant Naki's data into him to make a more obedient pawn) and to fuel the malice themes this season has build.
my semi thoughts aside all in all Zero-One starts and ends amazingly and is a great season. thanks *hug* have a nice day

I didn't mind the competition arc per se... mid season is always going to be filler arcs until you get back to the main story arc again and to be fair... the season probably missed 3-5 episodes from the covid hiatus and was padded with 2 recap episodes. So there might have been some more developments for Gai and Yaiba redemptions/changes but with the new season of KR having to start they would have had to bin some eps and speed up the story for the finale.
A damn shame since the build up was so good.
