#Hallelujah #kdlang #Reaction - Zábava
When Cohen heard K.D.'s version he said she performed it to "its ultimate state of blissful perfection." FACT
I've seen a comment once that mentioned he said it's her song now. ❤
YES, he did actually say something to the effect that no one else need bother to sing it now, after hearing her perform it!
Her performance of this song is perfect
Indeed magical
@@t.lee.p9182 I'm not sure, but what he said might have been "that song never needs to be performed again." As in, k d lang: mic drop.
Leonard Cohen himself praised KD's version as the best.
Her cover really stands apart from most covers of the song. While most singers sing the word "hallelujah" the same every time, KD uses subtle differences in inflection each time she sings the word. She demonstrates its not just what you sing but how you sing. Her performance is a masterclass.
Yes...her vocal control is phenomenal. She uses so many methods of using her voice to convey emotion...crescendos, decrescendos, breathiness, vocal cries, softened and then build up of strengthened vocals in the same word. Her breath control is awesome as well!
@TheMemphis5 , I have not heard that k.d. lang wanted to be known as he/his.
The absolute greatest version imo. Stunning.
Kd lang is so beautifully gifted. As Neil Young said "She can sing the living f*ck out of a song".
This is one of my very favorite versions of Hallelujah. For me it has the right combination of world-weariness and cynicism. I love it.
And some gut-wrenching pain in teh mix.
@@philipem1000 Yes. I'd say it is weird that I love the song for these reasons, but she emotes so well and truly seems to feel what she is singing. And her verse on tying him to the kitchen chair is oddly sexual at the same time. Then she follows up by blushing as she gets her well-deserved ovation.
My favorite from k.d. when she performs it at The Logies May 2010.
She also sang this at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. I've probably watched her perform this song 50 times and it still makes my eyes leak.
That was my favourite version!
I think the Olympics performance is even better than this one which is already great.
Also my favourite version!
2010 Olympics Version is my favourite…hands down.
KD doesn’t sing you a song, she gives you magic❤❤❤
My favorite rendition of this song. Tears every time. ☮️❤️😎
Can you even imagine being able to sing like k.d.? She has to be one of the greatest torch songstresses of all time. So versatile and creative whatever she sings. Try out the MTV Unplugged version of Crying. It will blow your mind.
Agree.
She's so humble. I love her!
Very proud to be a Canadian every time I hear her sing ❤
Well...K.D. Lang is one of my all-time favorite female artists in the entire world!!!! Discovered her in the 80's on the Mtv music program where I saw her perform in a video, "Trails of Broken Hearts, " and I fell in love with her!!! She's the reason I listen to Country music from time-to-time. She has that Patsy Kline vibe in her vocal that just gets me. And I still cry when I heard her sang. 😢😊 This was one of strongest performances. Great reaction....and I agree.😊😊😊
Her version of this song, ANYTIME or ANYWHERE she has sung it, is the best version you will ever hear. She has such an incredibly gorgeous, rich voice, and she uses it as an instrument to draw out every subtle emotion from the song. I've seen her do it live several times, and each time just shoots you through the heart.
When you said, “I’m not gonna do it” I said back to the tv, “yes you are!” ♥️🎼✨
Oh yeah I was going to comment how funny that was 😄
-I have no such control 😎
You wear your heart on your sleeve.... what a beautiful thing to see.... appreciate you & much respect.
I understood the song only when I first heard her sing this and I just teared up ❤❤
She evokes emotion like no one else can. ❤
When Lang sang this for the opening ceremony of the 2010 Olympics, Cohen was in the audience. At the end of it she stepped to the edge of the stage and bowed to him in acknowledgment....
I seem to recall that they had asked him to sing it, and he was the one who said KD should do it. But now I can't find the reference...
100% human, Katie. You have power
she sang it for cohen at the 2005 juno awards where he was in attendance, cohen was asked to perform it at the olympics and he said to ask kd - "it's her song now."
What a beautiful instrument she has. My favorite cover of this song…ever.
Finally, could not wait to hear your reaction to this K.D. Lang version. You must also listen to her hit CONSTANT CRAVING
OMG, That's one of My Favorite song!🥰
Hallelujah - Lucy Thomas - (Official Music Video)
She knocked it out of the park that night. I'd also suggest you check out her version of 'Helpless' by CSN&Y that she performed on the same night.
Love that version....
I was at this show... she was a fill-in for Neil Young who had to pull out for health reasons. Personally I am so glad they got her to perform. Her version done that night just had us spellbound... and the reaction from those of us in the audience was genuine. Her whole performace that night is worth watching
Brilliant version of this song.
Hallelujah - Lucy Thomas - (Official Music Video)
@@patwelch8187 Lucy's version is excellent, but this is my personal favourite - a few years old now. czcams.com/video/k29JxVCKBBM/video.htmlsi=efPMeeqOmENFfwBW
I honestly believe that k d lang is the best female vocalist of the last 40 years. Leonard Cohen himself said the it was hers
KD's version is BEST. She sang this for Leonard Cohen & he said, This her song now.
She sings every rendition of the song a little bit differently. This is definitely an extraordinary version (though I've not heard one where I thought she was just ordinary). My favorite however is her performance of Hallelujah at The Logies. Chills and awe.
Her version at the 2010 Olympics was even better. Simply magic!!!!!!
I was there…can attest to that. 60,000 Candles waving. Brought me to tears that night and continues to do so every time I watch it. She’s my favourite singer 💕💕💕
Glad you found kd Lang - she is a treasure.
Are you familiar w Peewees Playhouse Christmas Special - a must viewing in these parts - the best Christmas Special of them all. And KD sings a great song.
Also "I'm down to my last cigarette" on the Shadowlands album (I recommend the entire album)
A great singer who grew up not far from where I live. A former colleague of mine taught her in high school. We are proud of her achievements. Glad you like her work.
kd Lang's version of this song makes me cry every time. It's so emotional.
LOVE K.D. !!! ... With that said, I looked through your entire reaction videos and was extremely surprised to see you have not react to DEPECHE MODE at all !! ...... They are currently on World Tour and are frikin amazing ! Just saw them at LA FORUM, 7th row from stage. EPIC !!!! If you decide to react to some of their music, let me suggest -- ENJOY THE SILENCE -- to start, PERSONAL JESUS, WORLD IN MY EYES, GHOSTS AGAIN, JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH, EVERYTHING COUNTS ....... and keep going from there ! You will be mesmerized !!
You should hear her sing Neil Young's Helpless and Joni Mitchells Help Me
I just love it when you cry…it means it got to you..and kd will do it every time… pure pure joy.
I cry every time I hear her sing this. She is amazing.
Hallelujah - Lucy Thomas - (Official Music Video)
Was lucky enough to see KD in concert a few years ago and when she sang Hallelujah it was an incredible moment. Huge ovation ❤
Her performance of this during Vancouver Olympics was even better…in my humble opinion!
I love it at the end of her performance that she was bowing to Leonard Cohen himself. He always said this song belonged to her now
One of the songs on her album Hymns from the 49th Parallel, though I prefer the 2010 Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver Winter Olympics. The Leonard Cohen Tribute version is moving watching his reaction. This is another song which Ms lang has made her own. Her recordings with Tony Bennett are also worth a listen.
My favorite female vocalist doing my favorite version of this song ❤ Thank you so much! If you haven't checked out her version of So in Love or Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray, I highly recommend.
Hallelujah - Lucy Thomas - (Official Music Video)
Peace and Love From Canada
This was more than a performance, it was an live event that became a happening. The audience recognized it as such....even the orchestra was perfect and KD gave her best ever. Timeless classic.
Her vocal control is awesome and she uses it to enhance the emotion of the song, not just to engage in vocal gymnastics as some other singers do, just to show off.
Thank you for not injecting comments sporadically throughout the song, for allowing us to thoroughly enjoy her presentation. Sometimes too much analysis removes the awe and splendour of a magnificent performance such as this.
You just had a KD Lang experience.
The Ultimate Canadian Musical experience.
My favorite version is by Leonard Cohen himself on his recording "Live in London". Cohen is not a song writer, he is a Poet who writes songs. He has written many books of poems, some have won awards in Canada and US, as well as two novels. He has written many great songs, Dance Me to the Heart of Love, Bird on a Wire, Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye, Famous Blue Raincoat, Suzanne, Sisters of Mercy, Avalanche, the list goes on and on.
Go ahead, cry! ❤ A fine Canadian lass 🇨🇦 The best cover ever of this tune.
She is the best! And love her voice. Listen to her duets with Tony. Martin.
Odd you would say that about jd lang. She's one of the finest singer around and her rendition is perfect.
You said "I'm not going to do it". Well, I saw her live, and yes, I did it. That's right, I cried.
Mr. Cohen must be proud! Next to his version, hands down, the best!
She's brilliant
The best version. See the tears on ya
Yes!
She alway puts her Heart into anything she sings, As if it was Her Life! 🥰
I saw her in London in 2005/06, she sang this during that tour, wonderful.
First time hearing KD’s version. I had chills the entire time. 💜
Her performance of this at the 2012 Winter Olympics in Vancouver was amazing ❤
Yay, kd!! Her voice is unbelievable.
Yup, I cry every time too.
Beautiful. Powerful voice ❤
Actually brought me to tears! So absolutely beautiful 😢❤
Absolutely my favorite version
❤🎶💃🇨🇦
Chills . . . every time!❤
Yeah
Beautiful!
Right in the feels... Thanks for sharing!
Love your reactions. She has so many great songs. Try "Nowhere to Stand". Beautiful! K
Your tears salvo says it all
Hallelujah has been covered at least 50 times. K.D. Lang and Rufus Wainwright (in Shrek) are my favorite versions.
Hallelujah - Lucy Thomas - (Official Music Video)
Great reaction !
Always amazing...for me though, the best is the 2010 Winter Olympics
I hope you do more...can never go wrong with kd.
Leonard Cohen is a poet first and foremost, an icon in the literary world whose words, whether on the page or in a song, have inspired generations. Check out his song "Suzanne" (his version).
I've heard K.D. sing this dozens of times, and the hair on my arms and on the back of my head stands up every single time.
Love your channel, and I love your passion for music. It's great that you read up on the artists and the song that you're going to listen to them perform.
Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones SalvoG, and to everyone else who watches your channel!
✌️ 🫶 and Joy from ❄️🇨🇦❄️!
I love this version but personally I think the version she sang on MTV Unplugged is even better!
K.D.Lang's version of the song is a little like the Johnny Cash version of Hurt. Trent Reznor said that after Johnny's versiion came out that it was his song now... Leonard Cohen said very much the same thing, after he saw this, his comment then was that the song was K.D's now... Brilliant reactions I think from two completely different composers of note who were able to hand over their creation to someone else. Not easy to do with something as emotional as both those songs are. Speaks volumes to the heart of all people involved I think. A rare moment.
This is my second favorite version of the song for me.I give the #1 spot to Jeff Buckley and the 3rd spot to Kurt Nilsen. All great versions, all great singing voices.
Hallelujah - Lucy Thomas - (Official Music Video)
I agree with you. Jeff Buckley did his version in 1994 (and John Cale in 1991) and both inspired KD's version more than the original Cohen version.
🕊️💫
Leonard Cohen was in the audience and said that her version was the only way to sing it.
Brother, watching YOU enjoy this incredible version brings tears to my eyes every time i watch it. Love watching your channel. Another song KD does is Neil Young’s, Helpless. Definitely worth you covering as her vocals are on full display again. As a proud Canadian, i may be biased but her voice is like heaven opening up.
Also love all the Morrisette you covered. I really enjoy watching your reactions and I thank you for that.
Her 2010 Olympics version is my favorite. Event though I like this one too, I think her vocals in the 2010 version are better.
Check out Small Town Titans version and then their cover of The Grinch
She really makes you 'feel' this song - her version is the epitome of how this was meant to be experienced!
Shes so good! Im gonna check out Buckley's version because of you.....thank you for your attention to the back story. Have a wonderful day!
Best Version is Jeff Buckley chills and tears every time..
For me anyway. Jeff Buckley was an amazing singer who left us too soon - drowning victim. Please react to his version and his song Lover you should have come over. Please 🙏
I'm going to give him a listen. Heard /saw the suggestion here. Thanks!
It's been about 15 years since I first saw this rendition of the song. Shortly afterward, I had a surgery which ended up with complications, and was in the ICU for a time. My son made me a tape of some of my favorite music which included this, and I swear it was one of the things that pulled me through. It's simply on another level than almost any other music ever recorded.
Listening to her puts you in a totally different dimension where everything else disappears
You should really check out Deep Purple's version! It has a slight psychedelic vibe! It is my all time favorite!
Absolutely gorgeous ,A great reaction.KD Lang is so underrated.💕
How many different ways can you say Hallelujah? KD Land will show you.😍
Standing ovation by her peers she is awesome
Hearing this version UNDOES me it literally drops me to my knees--a spiritual experience.
I still stand when I hear her sing this.
This is at the Junos 🇨🇦 version of the Grammys the audience is her peers. After this she came back on and filled in for Neil Young singing his sing Helpless. She also performed this at Olympic 2010 opening ceremonies. Your reaction is how I feel every time I listen to her.
She was so moved by the audience jumping to give her an extended ovation for a lifetime of sharing her talents with us, it appeared she was trying hard not to cry openly.
While others may perform perfectly respectable even beautiful covers, Lang’s is definitive: the best forever. (Cohen agrees)
Incredibly, her 2010 performance of Hallelujah at Vancouver Olympics is even better - you WANT to see that 😎
Your next blow-your-mind k.d. performance should be In Care of the Blues, The Tonight/Johnny Carson Show 1987. You will not be sorry.
KD Lang is one of those singers that will always gives me goosebumps. Eva Cassidy, Delores O’Riordan and Kate Bush have the same effect on me.
Try Canada's Four Tenors on Oprah, when Celine Dion walked on unannounced half way through. Magic.
