  • SmartThings - Use two smart switches to control a three way smart switch circuit on Samsung SmartThings. This is a handy home automation tip to boost your smart home to the next level.
Use this with the 3 way switch wiring diagram on my website (link below). The video shows how to use the Zooz smart switch, but any z-wave plus smart switch can be used for the solution.

The 2 way mirror in hubitat works for me.

@@DIYSmartHomeGuy1 I have the GE with an add-on switch because I needed light almond. But just wired up a zooz Zen 27 hot and setup the 2 way mirror. I've seen a switch bindings app for hubitat but haven't tried it. Not sure if it's available for ST. PS I enjoyed your interviews at CES.

Can I use this system to group two separate 3-way switches that control recessed lighting? I want to be able to turn on and off both 3-way switches together at the same time, and still have separate control of each switch when needed.

It sounds reasonable - but the devil is in the details. I'd experiment with it and see what you can accomplish. Sorry I'm not any more help than that.

Is there a solution for this scenario when there are no neutral wires? I am using inovelli Reds and a hubitat hub. Thanks in advance!

@@DIYSmartHomeGuy1 I think I figured it out! My set up is no neutrals, light/load in separate boxes. If I were to look at your wiring solution B-9, mine has the GE add-on/aux switch in box 1 and an Inovelli Red in Box 2. I think I may have also figured out an alternative solution which would have an Innovelli in each box. I am sure that you already have a solution (hence the upcoming video!) but would love to share them with you if you think they would be helpful and to also get your thoughts.

Hello, looking for a way to contact you but don't see it so posting here ... just wondering what you think of Homeseer. Don't see any reviews of their switches or hubs. Thanks! (don't work for them, but I did decide to go w/their 200+ dimmer switches in my house, thinking about moving from ST to their hubs, which are not cloud dependent)

@@DIYSmartHomeGuy1 Thanks John it does! If I can briefly share my experience, I've been very pleased w/the quality and integration into ST - it's easy. I did pretty extensive research and bought a few other switches when I first started setting up my house because I wanted to go all in once I started. I have found wiring them to be pretty straightforward even in multi-way circuits, which isn't true of the other switches I tried. Also, I really love their multi-tap capabilities and I LOVE the programmable LED's that you can use for anything. I have them change colors based on a few activities around the house so I get reminded to close the garage door, turn off my de-icing circuit on the roof, etc. I find this invaluable. Anyway that's my two bits. I'll look forward to your reviews! (Also, you might want to add a third way to reach out for those of us who have bailed on FB. I don't miss it and I have no intention of going back!)

Hi thanks for your videos. Can you put an updated video of inovelli vs zooz. I can't decide which way to go. Thanks.

Why not use the Association group 2 setting on these switches. Zooz switches support it and they would talk to the switched directly rather then using the smart lighting app, which would respond almost instantly. I would also imagine it does not have the issues of the mirror setting. Just a thought, I have not actually used it yet, I only tested switch to switch myself.

DIY Smart Home Guy ok makes sense, would love to see a video on association groups, hopefully you will look at doing a more in-depth soon. I have been trying to setup a switch controlling 2 bulbs for several weeks now. I had no issues setting up a test from switch to switch just struggling with controlling the z-wave bulbs

To this day, I still think the Insteon product line does this « association » best. It’s a shame really that to this day, no other modern switch manufacturer has that level of ease.

The question here is not HOW but rather WHY?????
I am not sure why anyone would use two smart switches for on/off on a 3 way. I have 7 of these at home and all have only one smart switch on the line box. I cannot imagine what benefit the second smart switch provides. It can't get twice as smart :-)
Dimming is a whole different kettle of ohms.

@@DIYSmartHomeGuy1 Thanks! I knew there had to be a reason. As you probably guessed my implementation is pretty complex but rudimentary if that makes sense. I don't have a hub except the simple zigbee in my echo studio. Yet. Getting a bit tired of trying to fudge complex triggers.
