    Used a thick gasket material from Napa and a leather punch to fabricate a carb gasket. This after rebuilding carb , replacing piston ring and new impulse pipe.I think the smaller the displacement the more finicky they are. The gasket finally solved the problem.

    Thank you for the video Sir, you are right if in your Wifes case if she is happy with a particular saw even if it cuts 1 or 2 seconds slower the difference is that she is happy using it as opposed to a quicker saw which she is cautious about. Its not the size but more a good tune and sharp chain.

    I found this video when trying to diagnose a problem with my 142. Dug into it and found that the intake manifold tube was split 3/4 of its length. I just ordered a new one along with an impulse tube for a total of 10 bucks. If I can get it back together successfully, that will be a cheap fix. I’m not familiar with small engine repair, so I probably wouldn’t have given this a try without your video. Thanks for taking the time to do it. On a side note, I enjoyed your opinion on these saws. I bought this used figuring since its a Husqvarna it must be good. I’ll know to do some more research before I buy my next one.

    When I pull a carb off to put new diaphragms in it - the first thing it gets is about 30 minutes in my ultra sonic cleaner with some Dawn, Purple Power and some vinegar. The vinegar neutralizes the purple power, so it does not turn the carb black. I use all three in equal amounts. Then,I wash it off with water and blow it out before rebuilding it.

    Compared to a Poulan Wood Shark 1950 or a Wild Thing 2375, that intake/carb arrangement seems overly complicated. Even the Strato (Two barrel) carb/intake arrangement on the newer Poulan/Craftsman saws are not that complicated. Thanks to you for taking the time and sharing the video.

    Thanks for taking the time. The 142 is kinda like, but not quite the same as my Craftsman 40cc saw. I spent hours on that saw working on the carb, replacing the fuel line and then finally finding out that the spark plug was good for a few seconds of running, then it would quit. Then there was the gas cap vent... Runs really good now.

    I love my 142 - I've had no issues with the impulse system yet although I don't like that part of the design much. It starts on 6 pulls cold every time, and usually one when hot.
    Replace that cat muffler with a 141 can and the performance improvement will be significant. That chain was probably 0.043" Oregon 90SG - replace it with 90S or 90PX, or grind off the shark fins, and it's very fast chain.

The oil is not coming out and the fuel PICKUP is not working according to my buddy I LOVE it when people explain me their issues LOL............ I haven't even tore into the saw yet ... Please don't take my comment the wrong way Mon Ami ~!~~! BTW what is the bar and chain thing that you mentioned ?? I noticed someone else is curious also ~!~!
      In fact the 141 I was speaking of has a ???? Guess what A dang string loop to pull the choke lever out ....... WTHECK ....... I'm gonna see what other surprises are in store for me .....

    I've had my 142 for just over a decade now. It has always been a wonderfully dependable saw, for cutting lighter stuff (even fell a few good sized bradfords with it 🌲), but of course I'm rather OCD on keeping fresh fuel, clean air filter, etc on my equipment. Anywho, like an idiot I recently lent it to a friend who smoked it. Piston/cylinder are trashed. So I've ordered replacements, with a few other new parts to see if I can get another decade out of her. I'm curious as to what you were saying about the muffler? Any recommendations on something I can mod to keep the heat out of the system??

      Just got rid of the "saftey" chain. Go to any saw dealer and they will have the more aggressive chains, and I got rid of the cheap bar that came with that saw...this was years ago now! Back then there was a low cost "forester" brand that was a milled bar vs a rivet bar. Now? I would find a Oregon Brand "Speed Cut" bar and chain for that saw. Again either ebay or a local dealer can help.

    Have to ask.. why do you not like the Zama carbs? Other than being chinese, in my experience, I have had far better success with them than with Walbros. Believe me, I would rather the Walbros be the better carb, but every Zama I have used, rebuilt by me or new, always provided a more consistent idle and quicker throttle response while staying in tune. Just my experience up to this point but that is subject to change at any time ;-)

    I like my little 36... That was my first port/muffler port practice saw. I got lucky and did a very good job....that little gal rips! That loop looked good and aggressive...what are the letter/number on that ? Is it semi chisel? Think mine's woodland pro semi and is cuts quick and stays sharp...I tune it up with the file on the refuel. I just got another 350 and a 372 to build. I bought a 32" stihl rollomatic and skip chains for that ms391 ... It kicks butt as a stocker pulling that bar/chain combo. I really want the extra 20% power gain from the muffler port but still can't bring myself to fiddle with a one year old saw. Also read that with that engine design that although it is EPA restricted muffler... I wouldn't get that much gain? Whatcha think saw man? What is your opinion of that huztl 52 mm big bore setup on the 272 's size saws? Mine runs pretty good but it was smoked when I got it so nothing to compare to. Excellent videos...man! Keepum comin'. Love my 543xp! Starts great, incredibly light, revs quick, good power for its size and the oiler is crazy strong! Just perfect for small work/limbing. Just over 3 tanks through mine and it still falls on its face in the cut sometimes.. nothing like when it was new, but still a bit disconcerting.. I haven't removed the limiters yet and am at full rich with them on. I really want to richen it up, but don't want to void the warranty yet incase there is an issue. How many tanks through your 543? Are you still experiencing the strange, random, dead spot in the cut?

      afleetcommand I really enjoy your videos and appreciate your approach to chain saws. Please make more. Concerning this saw my experience was very different. I found my 41 husky in a garbage can. What did I have to lose! I took it home and spent a couple of hours cleaning it up. The problem was the gas and oil caps were leaking, so it sucked into the flywheel tons of oily sawdust. Replaced o rings on caps and a spark plug. this saw had an old solid steel bar with 325 chain heavy duty sprocket... I like this saw better than my ms 250 It cuts like a much larger saw. I also like the fact that its not as hard on my hearing as my ms250. Its also a lot easier on this old mans back than my larger saws but still gets the job well done on my medium size logs. I have a great little collection of saws that I just love... 41 husky, 55husky,360 Pro. ms250, old 280 wood boss, and my favorite sax dolmar with a 23 inch bar. When I use it I'm in heaven --It really burries your shoes with saw dust. It sounds like an old Harley when it runs. I will file the info on the 41 just in case it acts up in the future. I bought one for my father who resonantly lost all his saws in a fire, he had a few nice machines, husky's, Stihl's, especially his larger saws that he ran when he was a faller.
      Now he has no way to cut fire wood for his shop, so I hope it'll make a good Christmas present.

    for a number of year they have built many models that are home owner saws that are a throw away saw,, and it is getting worse,, i bought a rancher 460 and it say in the box for 3 years never put gas in it, then i took it out an ran there pre mix gas for brake in, less then 3 hours use it stopped dead, the piston ring collapsed no compression, shop told me after charging me #170 cnd to tell me what i already knew, but they didnt know why it had no compression,, no warranty, i have used this brand only all my life and never problems like this, hell i can leave the saw in the snow bank in -40 for days and 2 to 3 pulls and off i go,, not know more, oh and get this i bought this 460 in 2013 but the date of mfg is 2010

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 5 lety

      Couple of things. First, if true, this would be an anomaly as the 460 and the smaller 455 are statistically about the most reliable saws on the market. Second you didn't say where you bought it from. A reputable dealer would have warrantied if that was a failure because of a manufacturing flaw in the saw instead of things like operator error. A place like Lowe's? Who knows what they will do. A collapsed ring? I guess that's possible but suggests all it needed was a new ring. Not a very difficult repair and on a saw such as that, worth doing and would be a lot more interesting vs. a negative blast. Not having visibility of the saw its impossible to diagnose in cyber space, but there are other things that might be at play. What did the fuel look like that was used.....you straight gas that saw? Was there water in the tank from condensation? Which is the other thing. It's easy to blast stuff online both good and bad, but would be a lot more useful if you did a video of the repair.....and then we could see what really happened.
