Budget Beating Christmas Dinner For Under £20!

- Christmas dinner is by far the biggest feast of the year, and also the most costly. So I've come up with this little number that not only tastes awesome, it also comes in at under £20 to feed a family of 4! That's a fiver a head! if you have a few more people coming over, you can scale it up a notch by adding an extra chicken and throw in a few extra veggies, and you're sorted. Also, just because it's cheap, it doesn't mean i've been tight with the amount. We've got everything from a butter basted roast chicken, classic pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, yorkshire puds, veggies, gravy, the whole shebang. So you can still enjoy a massive feast, but without the eye watering cost.

To Make my budget beating Christmas dinner you will need:
For the chicken
►1 medium sized chicken
►125g of unsalted butter
►1 tsp of dried sage
►3 tsp of cranberry sauce
►2 cloves of garlic
►A little oil
►Salt and pepper
►1 large onion
►2-3 carrots
►A couple of sprigs of rosemary
For the sides
►12 rashers of smoked streaky bacon
►12 pork chipolatas
►250g of brussels sprouts
►8 medium sized carrots
►4 large parsnips
►Frozen peas
►King Edward potatoes
►1 lemon
►1 packet of stuffing mix
►6-8 Frozen Yorkshire puddings
►Chicken gravy granules

@@Adam_Garratt my mams advice was make the starter and puddings as simple as possible then make twice as many roast potatoes and pigs in blankets as you were thinking and you’ll be fine I’m sure this is the first Christmas (apart from 2020 for the plague) that she hasn’t made Christmas dinner since 1963 (the year she married my late father)

Great video. Wow you made compound butter, stuffing balls, parsnip & carrots, roasted potatoes, gravy, pigs in a blanket, Yorkshire pudding, peas, roast chicken, and bum nuggets AKA brussel sprouts all in one night for 20 quid while being half pissed yourself, knowing that you'll have to wait to film the B roll the following day... YOU ARE THE MAN and we are not worthy! But I did notice in the B roll that there were only 10 pigs in a blanket. Come on Adam, be honest, you had more than one 🤣. I'm glad you did the parsnips & carrots, and I've convinced my wife to let me make it to add to her Christmas dinner (her favorite meal of the year). It must be that I've earned her trust because of all the other recipes of yours I've cooked that she's loved. Hope you have a truly wonderful Christmas!

This video was recommended to me after I watched a series of budget Christmas dinner videos made by fellow boring Americans, none of them enjoying a drink while cooking. I was watching those videos - things like Dollar General Christmas meals for 6 people for under 20 bucks! - because I was fascinated that anyone could pull that off and frankly pissed off that I spend a fortune on holiday meals only to hear crap like, "I cut gluten out of my diet" or "I am vegan. This week." F*** off you pack of ingrates! Next time you are getting a suspicious-looking "sausage" roll and a box of crap instant mashed potatoes from the local 99 cent store. Then I find this video and was laughing out loud. You are hilarious. And your food looks great. So thank you. You have a new fan.

Sprouts... Shred then and fry in a tablespoon butter add chopped walnuts and sultanas. They have a cabbage flavour if you do it like this.

Can't stand sprouts cooked, or even if they've been left to something hot on a plate. But give me fresh raw sprouts, with a little salt and they are so nice. They have a peppery tang, like radish.

Sliced turkey (or maybe chicken), parsnips, peas, a few sprouts, roast potatoes, piggies in duvets (la-di-da, posher than blankets 😄), Yorkshire puds. All from the freezer mainly courtesy of M&S and Tesco. 😋

Christmas Dinner - the meal you put the most effort into, and all too often get the most disappointment out of - bah humbug 😆
I am with you on Turkey - the Brussel sprout of a bird, which all too many claim to like, but most are at best indifferent.
Far better results with the leftovers in a pie or a curry.
Money saving tip - admittedly not much, but a spatchcocked chicken cooks more quickly and uses less fuel.
Anyway, I hope that your Christmas is better than you expect, and I wish you all the best for 2023.
The last turkey I cooked I went all out on. Brined for 24 hours, compound butter, herbs the lot. Still wasn't as good as an ordinary chicken 🤣. Anyway a merry Christmas to you and yours Neil
@Adam Garratt I can only remember once or twice having been really impressed with the turkey, and one of those was a turkey crown.
I think the main problem is that the breast meat cooks so much more quickly than the legs, and a little bacon simply isn't enough (perhaps a little on your chicken would have stopped the scorching)
About 15 years ago when I could get hold of turkey legs for 50p (shudder to think what they would be now!) I would roast them on a Sunday - many times more successful than you could hope to expect for the price - but at the time, that was all we could afford.

Ha ha - loved this! Watching in April - far be it for me to comment on your cooking but I think the chicken should have been on a lower oven shelf.
