I do love this one and I never knew about the ovens. For me tho I would not sleep in the fj but get a roof top camper so u can put a bigger fridge and have more storage inside, but I like this a lot
@@elitewolfzz567 After my second almost 200 mile off road trip. I have decided to not go with a RTT or camp inside. I'm going to build an off road trailer. For me, the weight capacity of the FJ is just to low. I find myself overloading the suspension. It is easy to fix that. But if the suspension is overloaded it means the wheel bearings are to. Along with all the other down stream stuff. Upgrading wheel bearings, axles, half shafts and the like is far to expensive and to much of a reliability compromise. I'm not driving a 1 ton truck. I don't think enough people take into account weight when doing mods or off-roading/ overlanding. My last over land trip took out a shock that if I'd just been driving on road probably would have lasted 2-3 years. But 5 hours of rough dirt road driving and it is done for.
This is possibly the coolest FJ build I've ever seen. It's simple and beautiful. Everything has a purpose and you managed to fit in all the perks of an RV while also including a full size bed back there. Amazing! Quick question, anyway you could post a diagram of your solar/electrical build? I'd love to mirror your build!

I love your set-up! I tow a tiny home with my FJ but will retire the trailer in about 40,000 miles. I travel full-time so that's not too far away. Your sleeping setup is interesting. I'm not keen on sleeping inside myself. When I go camping without the trailer, kitty and I sleep in the rooftop tent. The biggest question for me is how I'm going to get work done and where once I park the RV for good. 😅 Happy travels!

Awesome setup! Would love something like that bed setup just to avoid motels in this day and age, only using it 5-6 times a year. Awning and all the extra would be over the top for my needs. Regular cooler and a propane cookstove would be fantastic. Love the use of space! Subbed.

I had a kaon barrier in the car before I moved to this setup. Great piece of kit! Sleeping in the car definitely makes this easier when you are camping, heaps less setup time!
My dad is in early 70’s loves camping/4WD & has FJ but he can’t handle the set up of tents, stretchers, mattresses (and his sleep apnea machine) etc so I am encouraging him to set up similar to you so he can sleep in car. Have you done a video on how you built the internal bed etc? Also want to replicate your awesome roof top solar panel system…Have you done a video on that?
Very cool set up! You should do a video on your solar setup. I like the watts, and the way the panels slide to the front! I have the airdam on my '14, but would love to have a full time solar setup for my fridge.

How did you mount the magnet behind the dash and do you know how strong it is (size or strength)? And does the iPad just stick on or is it in a magnetic case? Thanks mate
The magnet has been glued up to the back of the dash, you can reach it if you pull out the glove box. I can’t remember the exact size, but it was an eBay rare earth magnet, about 2” long and 1” wide. I have a stick on metal strip on the back of the iPad which the magnet sticks to. Hope that helps!
Is this a good car/setup for overlanding trips? We’re looking seriously at the car but not sure how well it will serve to do some long distance trips. Thanks!
I have really enjoyed this car and the setup! I guess it depends on how long you are going for/how many of you? I have found that I can go off grid for about 7-9 days with this setup (solo) before I start running out of water/food. It has long range fuel tanks (160l) and power isn’t too much of a problem (particularly now with lithium and the solar setup). The bed setup is great for rolling camp setups, you just have to get used to the front seat getting a bit messy when you are in camp. One thing to note is that the FJ isn’t super big inside, compared to other vehicles like land cruisers, etc, Hope that helps!
Hey mate! The front section of the bed is the completely removable and the seat backs aren’t removed. So the whole thing can be put back to a 5 seater, without affecting the drawers.

I love this setup mate, very clean. Mine is similar but I have a regular fridge which limits my sleeping platform to 1 person (and my dog lol). The slide-out fridge is brilliant, I wish I had known about that before I built mine. I'd love to know how you built the bottom section (drawers, sliding tables, fridge and so on). It's a huge space safer I can tell and even with that water thank there is heaps of space left to potentially sleep 2 people?

Hi, I have take the seat backs off, but have left the seat bases. This way, the whole thing can be put back to a 5 seater in a matter of a few minutes if needed.

Thanks! This water tank is a under tray water tank by ToolPro (Supercheap Auto). I have mounted it upside down and am using a FrontRunner Water Tap in the fill port. Hope that helps!
It’s a bit hard to tell because it has been done over time, I would say about $2-3000 spent over time (not including my new lithium battery and inverter setup)
I did most of this diy and bought things like fridges and stuff second hand, I think total setup (including current lithium batteries) I probably managed to get out of it for about $3500-4000 Australian Dollars

Great setup! I'm working my way towards that slowly. Is there any chance you can send a picture of your awning mounting hardware? I want to make sure I have something sturdy on the stock roof rack. Thank you in advance!! There is a rear door/ window mod that allows you to open both from the back interior of the FJ. It has made getting out extremely convenient. Thanks so much! Looks like your setup is going great too. I have since done this mod to get the back door open from the inside, it was a bit of a pain having to get out from inside.
