Great point! I float around 105 mph with the big stick but yet my ball of choice is the Chrome soft, less side spin, good distance. I have played the higher compression golf balls and for me the higher compression a golf ball has the more side spin it could generate off the big stick, not all, but most. They are doing some amazing things with golf balls these days to manage the spin/distance on all clubs in the bag. I prefer a softer feeling ball that gives me the distance of a higher compression ball. I’m pumped to see what Callaway developed with the new line of Chrome soft balls, the new tour ball could be the best of both worlds. Great video guys!

I am 85 years old. My swing speed has now dropped to 84+- mph. I have experimented with balls. The less expensive ball just done give more yardage. Pro V1 is the best even for my swing speed. I tried the pro V1x. at the end of last year and was getting slightly more distance with it,(3-5 yards). I would like to see a test with speeds from 94 to 80 mph. My testing was actual distance using my radar for swing speed.
I heard, but do not know for sure, that on the ladies tour many are using the Titleist prov1x

Last fitting swing low to mid 90. Played original Q star 3 or 4 years ago and loved it. Switched between that a z star depending on what was on offer. Been playing tour response especially the stripe which is so good for putting alignment feels like i cant miss. Middle of winter here so course short and very wet and found Q star tour divide for £20 per dozen, absolute bargain and enough to pay for winter golf. Orange and yellow better visibility from distance on green than blue and yellow, they seem to disappear if they land blue side up until you get closer.
Right in what you are saying better distance and feel from softer ball at my speed.

When I got into golf(three years ago), I played Callaway Super Soft Red Matte balls(AYO). Last year I switched to Callaway Chrome Soft X and sometimes I’ll use X(LS). The Red Matte were the softest feeling when I would flush them. Once I got hip to distance, spin, and all the other stats balls do, I upgraded to the Chrome Softs and noticed a huge gain in distance and spins. I’ll try the Q Star as my swing speed for irons is hovering around 90MPH when I’m on. If I baby swing it’s around 80. Thanks for this informative video👊🏽🏌🏽

I love the Titleist ProV1 but now play the Callaway SuperSoft
Had my swing speed check and found out it’s 87.7 for 70 years old I was disappointed…thought it would be higher
I searched for a lower compression ball because of what you showed here and landed on the Supersoft
I’ve picked up more yards and around the greens it works very well

Great vid as usual, this just shows that ball fitting is just as important as club fitting. Not ever ball will work for every player. I myself have experimented with a lot of higher end balls, I tend to generate higher spin naturally so I try to go with lower spin balls. I found for myself with an average driver swing speed of 108 mph that the Bridgestone Tour B X I tend to get the best performance all around. Pro V1X for me is a close second with TayloMade TP5 a distant 3rd. I don't get along with Srixon or Callaway in any version for some reason that I haven't figured out yet.

I always had swing speed of about ik 95mph. Trying to get it up to 100-105 this winter.
Always played the Nike Soft Feel, then the Srixon Supersoft, and the Wilson Duo Soft.
Last year, I tried the Honma TW-S, which was great, but I also tried the Honma TW-X for swingspeeds above 90mph. I gained 10 yards, and jt was straighter off the tee. Unfortunately, they don't make these anymore (or they don't ship them to the EU anymore).
So, now I'll be using the Wilson Triad, I've heard good things about this ball, have you tried these out?

Interesting! I am a slow swinger and have tested several “soft balls”. For me Callaway Chrome Soft is shortest of them of the driver. Srixon Q-star Tour is a rather good ball for me.
For me Titleist AVX is the longest and best overall ball. Great feel! Maybe a little low flight. TaylorMade Tour Response fly higher, but is shorter from tee.
There is a lot more than compression to consider, such as feel/sound, flight, spin and look. And price. And brand, possibly.
I am 60+ with a swing speed below 80 mph.

I previously used to use the QStar divide but after I upgraded to a Bettinardi putter then I didnt care for the divide anymore on the green based on the feel off the putter. The higher quality putter gave more feedback and can definitly tell the difference.
Gave the vice pro a try and am pleased with it. It is also a 3 peice urethane cover but not the matt finish which has mixed reviews on its pros/cons versus the traditional finish. Also was able to get a few dozen on clearance at Sams club after christmas for a steal so that was also a win. But the two are comparable in price and characteristics.

    • @HariSeldon.
      @HariSeldon. Před 12 hodinami

I'm in my early 70s with a swing speed of about 90, maybe a little higher on a good day. I got ball fitted and was recommended the Taylormade TP5x because I could use more spin, especially since our club has firm greens that are fast and hard to hold. On very windy days however, I like the Bridgestone BX. I think that an underappreciated issue is how a ball comes off the putter face. Some balls roll significantly longer or shorter than other balls with the same stroke, plus there is a big range of feel between some balls.

Nice. I figured out myself that my 93mph swing is best served with a slightly over 70 compression ball. The Srixon divide was just too loud for me, the tour response stripe is really great. Alignment is obviously super, and luckily if the stripe is facing the wrong way between tee to green it doesn't distract me (phew) Agree that if you do hit the middle pretty OK, go for a urethane cover if you can. Z-star (without the XV) is still pretty soft by the way, would not compare it to Prov1

Srixon had a sale three for two at the end of the year last year. I bought some of the Q Star balls. I’ve been playing the Taylor Made Soft Response before that and they were really working great for me. But the Q Star is working better for me than the TM. Hey...don't hate on the Nitros. They have their place in my bag...usually reserved for forced carry over water. lol
I played them exclusively as a newbie not knowing how many balls I would be losing a round. Only after figuring out I'm not going to lose as many as I thought have I ventured out to other balls. My favorites are Srixon Soft Feel (mid-irons), Volvik Vivid (chipping, even though it feels like I'm hitting a chunk of ice), and Bridgestone RBX (off the tee). I play the cheaper balls on first few visits to a new course and temps.
For putting practice, I have some TourResponse...that stripe is perfect to figure out how I'm putting that day. Makes it very easy to dial in on the practice green before a round.

Looking at two independent, comprehensive and controlled robot testing of major golf ball models provides the following data:
Todays Golfer (UK) 85 mph Driver Speed
Srixon Q Star Tour - Carry Distance 193.1 yds
Titleist Pro V1 - Carry Distance 193.0 yds
My Golf Spy (USA) 85mph Driver Speed
Srixon Q Star Tour - Carry Distance 188.14 yds
Titleist Pro V1 - Carry Distance 193.41 yds
Of course there are many personal preferences in golf ball selection including price, softer feel etc, however based on the data above, the cheaper ball will not provide extra distance for the slower swing speed golfer, in fact you may well lose distance.

Have a read of the methodology used and gain an appreciation of the time, effort, money spent and the expert scientists and researchers involved on the websites for Today's Golfer and My Golf Spy. The results show that certainly the softer, cheaper balls are available that will provide similar ballpark distance to the "Tour ball" for the slower swing speed player, however they will certainly not provide the extra 5 to 10 yards distance as suggested. The obvious suggestion is to make another video with a slow swing player around 85mph Driver speed on your simulator using a Titleist Pro V1 vs a Srixon Q Star Tour see what the results provide.

Premiuming (Tour) golf balls are better for everyone if you can afford them. Yes you may lose a little distance in some cases, however anyone that knows golf knows your shots to the green and around the green is where you score. And the premium balls are far superior at this. Good advice. Thank you, but I think you could have gone a little deeper into this topic.
The “average golfer” is a high handicap that doesn’t hit straight. Most swings are over the top and slicing. So aside from swing speed, I believe a ball that spins more also would produce more side spin and make that slice worse.
If correct, might that Q-Star Tour also be the better ball selection because it spins less off the tee and therefore helps keep the ball in play?
And I REALLY dislike the optics of the Divide. 🤮 That Q-Star Tour comes in plain white and yellow too. ( WHAT! No hot pink?! 😮 )

I'm sorry… But very little of this video added up. First you said a person with a swing speed of less than 95 miles an hour would benefit from a softer ball, but offered no proof. In your demonstration you both admit you're well over that 95 mile an hour threshold (100+), and it was the firmer golf ball that performed better. You would've done much better for yourself if you could've actually had somebody with a slower swing speed do this demonstration. I have a 93 mile hour swing speed and have hit the duo soft which is the softest golf ball out there and the Tour Response. Both of these were surpassed by the ProV1xleft - which I now use. My second choice is the Tour Response. This ball is only slightly off distance wise from the Left-. I will agree that there is a significant difference between the tour response and the left - golf ball pricewise. However, just like you said in the video with the left - off the driver, I am a 7 maybe 8 iron to the green versus a 6 iron with the tour response on a par 4.
