  • In this one I try to go pick up my combine that I purchased a while back. Unfortunately the trailer we brought just was not up for the task and neither was our courage.

    Not sure what you're worried about with the trailer. At least the combine is running and moving again, which is great!

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  Před rokem +1

      There were lots of things that were less than ideal with the trailer. I was worried that we would hook some lines going home for one. The other thing was the angle of getting it up on there. It was going to end up for the back axle of the combine was sitting on the tires which came through the floor of the trailer. It was just going to be more of a hassle than it was worth. I found someone who has a detached trailer so hopefully in the next month or so we can bring it home!

    @adamsuess3449 Před rokem +1

    I bought a car dolly and use that to pull combines. Pull the drive shafts and make sure the final drives are full. It works ok. Just need to make sure the rear axle isn't too wide.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  Před rokem

      Yeah, that was another option I thought of. But I did end up finding someone who’s got a detached trailer and he said he’d haul it for me if I just put the new floor on the trailer which he already has so trading labor for labor isn’t a bad deal.

    • @tomwendler2753

      I did the car dolly 20 years ago with a 33 Oliver combine. 90 miles. That 33 tore the dolly up. Had to remove the pan from dolly and patch it back together.

      That’s what I’m afraid of. I really don’t want to be wrenching on it on the side of the road because it’s hilly and curvy between there and my house.

    Engaging the starter with the fuel stop pulled and chain ratchet binders I how I got mine in the trailer. A winch or come a long would have been great to have.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  Před rokem

      That’s what I said too. If the trailer had had a winch I would’ve done it no problem. We could’ve pulled it nice and slow on there and wouldn’t even have to be in the cab probably.

    I was very hesitant to do the same after I got it up and running good! My son had bought a goose neck trailer but I wasn’t ready until it just had to be done . I had contacted a lowboy guy but he never called me back. So , my son and I took off one day on a whim of mine , had a small payer and loaded on to his trailer with no problem. So you can do it .

      @rosstheoliverman  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, I’m sure that we could’ve made it work but I ended up finding a neighbor that had a detached trailer so I’m gonna go that route. It’s a pretty good deal all I have to do is put the new floor on the trailer and then he’ll haul it for free 🤣

    Cool machine! I know your pain with finding the right trailer. I bought a Blueberry harvester back in Nov, From a guy about 45 mins from me way out in the middle of almost nowhere. Contacted up a friend and told me it'll cost nearly $900-1500 to get it back... Mind you the harvester has a Hyd Height control and goes up about 2ft. But as is it is nearly sitting on the ground. ughhhh!!! Gotta wait till spring now.
