I heat the oil to my desired temperature and it's in the crockpot insert. The insert holds heat really well. When you add your lye mix it adds heat. This speeds up the cooking process and your soap is made pretty fast and the stays hot for me until I pour in the soap mold. It depends on your method and recipe and additives how it works for you

Yes, I mixed it with a little glycerin and it got darker. I knew it would lighten up though. This a wonderful soap!

So I see this is just the crockpot insert. How do you keep soap temperature for it to stay hot? Do you just have to cover it?

Didn't like hot process. But am definitely going to try this method. What ingredients did you use?
I love hot process. You can use what you want. I used olive oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter and castor oil.
Also how do you know when to add the additives?
It depends most additives I add after the cook so that I can retain the most benefits but there are times I add clays, etc in the hot oils before

I heat up the oils in the crockpot then once they have melted I remove the insert from the crockpot and proceed with making the soap.
