idk why but as a kid, I always thought I'd die at 18 because I couldn't imagine life outside of school. I remember my whole last year of high-school was probably the most relaxed time in school but it also felt a little surreal the whole time. And at some-point, halfway through my year I remembered that thought of dying from when I was a kid and how I couldn't imagine at all where I would be at that time next year. Donnie Darko's the only film I've watched so far that really captures that surreal but weirdly comforting feeling of genuinely thinking I would die soon at the end of high-school.
The scene where Donny confronts the motivational speaker really speaks volumes because of how prevalent it still is today. These motivational speakers online will just come out and basically shame you for having human emotions and essentially just tell you to suck it up but none of them have had to actually deal with these deep seeded mental issues that they claim to have a remedy for.
