I've been watching this show in it's iterations since 2014 (WOW! I'm 10 years in!) and from all I've learned about WB since then, WB was to blame for most of the DCEU failures. Truthfully, I enjoyed some of the films but I wish there were more successes.

The difference between "studio interference" at MCU and DCEU, is that it was basically all Kevin Feige who was interfering. It was a showrunner. DCEU had random groups of random execs, always changing, interferring. They also had very different backgrounds. Context John, context.
While I like Man of Steel and his 300 movie, I don’t think Zack Snyder was the right director to kick off the DCEU considering how divisive most of his movies are. They really needed to get a director who has made a lot of movies the majority of people loved to start the franchise off.

Well some of it is Zach but you have to remember he didn’t really direct that first justice league movie and the fact they never had man of steel 2 or especially especially (yes I said that twice) but there was no batfleck solo film before SVB, that was a huge mistake by WB
No Batman Solo film before BVS was Snider's call and there was no man of steel 2 or anything else after Justice League because everything Zack Snyder had made prior to that had underperformed at the box office. Think what you will of Man of Steel in Warner Brothers eyes it underperformed. Batman versus Superman underperformed. Justice League whether Zack Snyder was connected to it or not underperformed. It's hard for WB to make the decision to continue to push forward with more multi-million dollar movies when everything they're making is underperforming. Meanwhile, they're looking over at Marvel and watching their box office be doubled and tripled by other super for hero franchises. I'm not saying WB made the right call but I will say I understand the call they made.
So many people don't want to admit to the truth of the DCEU and that's that hiring Zack Snyder to launch the DCEU was the biggest mistake they ever did. Man of Steel was the DCEU's Iron Man, the foundation from which the entire cinematic universe would be built upon, and it was a critical flop and commercial underperformance. Not the best first impression, but not an unsalvageable position, until the 2nd weekend of Batman V Superman where it dropped 68% at the box office due to doubling down on all of Snyder's worst tendencies as a director and storyteller. That was the point where the DCEU died, sure it was a long and slow death, but that was where the universe lost any sense of direction/vision and the far importantly the general audience. They voted with their wallet and said "We do not want this." and WB threw itself into a creative death spiral to fix the universe, except they never did and created a disjointed and disordered franchise that only alienated audiences and divided fans. Sure WB had their wins here and there but there was simply no undoing the damage that Batman V Superman did to the DCEU. Imagine if John Favreau's Iron Man was a flop and Whedon's Avengers was a bomb, the MCU would have died or be a pale shadow of what it is today. They needed someone who could really have brought Superman into the 21st century and make him someone that everyone could get behind. Am I saying WB deserves no blame for the DCEU? Of course not, they made their fair share of mistakes. However, in the end, Zack Snyder was the wrong person to start the DCEU and everything WB did since then was desperation to avoid or fix that broken foundation Snyder left for the rest of the DCEU.
Snyder is more about style over substance, which isn't a great direction for a franchise. Someone like Favreau cares about character and story, but he's also experienced with technical effects, which put him in a great position to kick start a franchise.
As a side note, MCU Cap was a better Superman type character than Superman himself, let that sink in, Captain America of all characters worked in the 21st century. Sure, we have the Russo bros, Markus and Mcfeely to thank for Winter Soldier which really helped Steve s character.
Man of steel was originally meant to be a trilogy but as it wasn't as well received or financially successful as they hoped - they went with plan B then plan C then now plan reboot
When it comes to the DCEU. I just never got into any of it. Despite being a massive comic fan. But I never got into DC comics as a whole. I was a strick Marvel guy. No hate. Just, a Marvel guy. But I tried the DCEU. And I just didnt care or have any interest. Only exception is Gunns Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. The thing nobody wants to talk about is Marvel listening and doing things to fix how things have been. Im a phase 4 lover. But i can reasonably admit quality going down. Point is Iger did what he said. Feige would be back to his normal only reporting to him. And actually fixing things. We should all be thrilled and actually excited for things to get that magic back.

Man of Steel is honestly in my Top 5 comic book movies of all time. It’s soooooo fricking good! Don’t care is it was morbid, it perfectly captured (for me) a super powered alien raised and nurtured by human parents. He was emotional asf, just like a human would be when they are down on their luck but, you always saw that glimmer of hope in him that things would get better. I LOVED IT! Their problem was not having the balls to replace him after BvS, they had a decent foundation there. I feel a genuinely well received JL would have changed the game for them but, the way WB handled it was TERRIBLE! By the time they made any changes it was too late.
The vast majority of the MCU films did not reach a billion $. Its only the Avengers films and a few of the "not" Avengers (but actually were Avengers) films that were over a billion. Then you have Infinity War/Endgame distorting. DCEU actually was doing fairly great out of the gate and then Josstice League really F-ed it up.

Winter Soldier and GOTG 1 made almost 800 mil and were good movies, Antman mad ariund 500mil, Dr Strange made around 600 al ost 700 mil, same with Antman 2. Buuuutt, although the MCU films didnt always but a billion, they were still considered successful due to goodwill from audiences and critics while the box office was doing ok. Look at 2017 that had GOTG 2, Homecoming and Ragnarok, making almost 900 mil each. People really liked the movies. If we re looking at the DCEU, WW 2017 and Aquaman were the only 2 successful entrkes

Talking about shows I’m still waiting for the second half of invincible and it’s not gonna come back till March!!!!! , my second most anticipated thing of this year number one is of course Deadpool but damn why do I have to wait another two months for four episodes 😢
they can always say the pacific rim and monsterverse movies are in alternative universes to explain the absence of Yeager's in the monstererse. the monstererse could already be in a multiverse if you include the old school Godzilla and Kong movies are in their own universes. Godzilla minus one could be in an alternate version of the the old moves universe .
Absolutely, thank you John! I've been a huge fan since I was a teenager trying to find the sports section in my local Video USA in my hometown in MS. I am able to still keep up due to social media, but I haven't purchased a card in prob well over a year. I am nowhere near as well to-do as yourself, so these cards are a big investment for someone who doesn't make a ton of money. And who do I think is prob the largest demographic of viewers? I would have to say lower to middle class homes who don't have a lot of expendable cash. The UFC should realize that before the rest of the fans start jumping ship as well
Zack Synder isn't a storyteller. A person once said he's a great cinematography. He's good at making his movies look great. But when it comes to storytelling and good characters, he sucks at it. That was the major problem with the DCEU.
Hopefully Lucasfilm will follow suit from Marvel and bring back some of the stunt coordinators from the PT for the new Star Wars movies and shows. The lightsaber fights since Disney took over have been boring af.
Kind of a weird take to not care about a what if story because it isn’t canon. If a great story can be told then why not make it. Now if you don’t like the quality of a what if story then that’s valid. You even named a great what if story with Red Son but if they were following John’s logic it wouldn’t have been made since it isn’t canon.
I like the opening remarks that John makes before the intro music, but I think he gives too much away - almost giving away the content of the show. Just my tiny bit of constructive criticism having been a fan of the show for years.

The DCEU fell apart when they decided to make BvS. They rushed to build an entire universe and tried to use their most popular character to do so and even randomly threw WW in there too

I believe 13 episodes is perfect for daredevil they won't have to add filler episodes that makes no sense or just feels disjointed.

Wouldn't surprise me if we only get 10 episodes for Daredevil rather than 13. 10 is still better than 6 though. I'm fine with either 10 or 13.

Young Justice and Harley Quinn on Max will always be the best things DC have put out in recent years. Everything else has been sub par.

UFC PPV-- John, watch it at AMC theaters or the like. Most of the time they have it. Better than at a sports bar, IMO.
