      I have a pink hammer from 1992. I use it in league from time to time when the pattern gets destroyed because the house oiled 5 minutes before practice starts. Dump it up 10 and watch it destroy the pins.

    i started bowling in the urethane, non-reactive era, imo hardness rules and complaints about urethane are ridiculous, with or without urethane lanes transition, people who claim to be "good" bowlers but complain about urethane destroying the pattern are just house hacks, it's really stupid for the PBA to ban urethane, these bowlers are supposed to be the "best of the best" , the bowlers should use whatever balls they want because people want to see strikes, i rather see butters bend the ball 20 boards with a urethane than a crybaby like rash who plugs it up the boards, everyone has a preference. back in the day people put lead in the ball and that was banned but now we have these various cores that create motion, so why not ban cores too? (because the PBA is just an organized association for advertising bowling balls) When EJ bowls he always has to have the newest motiv ball on the rack, but what does he throw? the purple venom, the best ball motiv has made IMO. on a side note: i would want to see simoo throw the NU blue hammer, no disrespect but there are seniors like me that don't throw the power ball anymore(simoo is what we called back in my day a "classic stroker") and it would be good to see how the ball reacts with less "hand" , i throw 2-handed now and i use a sanded pitch blue but i am still more of a control vs power player. sry long comment but this urethane "controversy" is tiring

    Now you know why we kept those Fab Hammers and why they are so sought after! my 2nd 300 was with the Fab Blue Hammer, 21 years after I bought it, and is still in my bag, next to the Blue Pearl Hammer. When the shot calls for it, or I can't find a good line to play, I pull these out, play straight up 8, and I'm good all night. That said, of course Urethane is good for the game. It always has been, and will be. Not everyone can control resin where it will hook all over the place and be erratic, and like the Fabs, it is something that can be controlled.

  • @nordattack
    @nordattack Před 10 měsíci +9

    NU looks great and will likely be even better than Purple for house shots.
    I think it is wonderful that the urethane game is returning.
    The Urethane era of the 80's was some of the most exciting and entertaining bowling in history.
    If Resin had not be introduced to the game Pete might have had 70 titles by now, he was that dominant with urethane.

    Is it because of the lower grit finish (500, 1000) that makes Urethane rolls early? Or Urethane, by nature of the material, rolls earlier than reactive even solid reactive?

    I started bowling in the 90's. I purchased a red pearl and solid blue hammer in the first couple of years. I stopped bowling in 2001. After 20 years, I've returned. Toward the end of my first season, I found my blue hammer works quite well using a down and in approach. The last two weeks I rolled 650 and 600 using it. And yes, these were manufactuered by Faball. NU seems like a nice ball for the future.

Personally I believe it takes about 20 games with the urethane ball to do what I like, but still agree its a great ball to have in the arsenal. :)

    Personally I don't like the way bowlers complain about the equipment that other people are using. Granted I am new to bowling so maybe there is something legitimate that I just don't see. I only throw reactive in my league. Avg up to 187 now with a few really good games (273 & 265).
    I have played a lot of sports and would never complain about the gear my opponents are using. Everything you change is going to have some good things and some bad things. If the ball gets softer then physics are such that it will have a larger footprint and hook more on the dry and less in the oil. The bowler still needs to throw the right shot or they won't be successful. It would be different if the bowling balls had a variable diameter or magically split into two separate balls as it went down the lane or had a remote control option but the wider footprint just means the ball works better in certain circumstances but it will be worse in other circumstances.

    I think Urethane is bad for the sport because it takes the patterns out of play. What's the point of bowling on all these different patterns if you can just use a ball that blends and shapes the same no matter what the pattern is. In my opinion, let pros be pros. I think the PBA should not allow any ball other than reactive balls on tour. Plastic, urethane, and any urethane like ball should only be used as spare balls.

    • @tongue_twista7557
      @tongue_twista7557 Před 10 měsíci +2

      Urethane is bad for the sport? It doesn't take patterns out of play. How many pros use it on medium-long and long patterns exclusively and winning tournaments?

  • @TK-hq2eq
    @TK-hq2eq Před 7 měsíci

    Don't know why they're banning urethane. Everyone has the opportunity to throw the same equipment, it's not like urethane is restricted to certain players. It's a tool, use it or don't, up to you. This means that from a production perspective, urethane is doomed. They'll continue making it for awhile, but eventually it's going to be discontinued because of this new rule.

      There is a video that shows the difference between a hard and soft ball. Basically a soft ball picks up traction quicker off the oil, which can give more hitting power to balls that are meant for control, and supposed to reduce hitting power and entry angle.
      Basically the argument is that soft urethane is unfair, and then the same standard needs to be held to all types of balls. They just don't know how to consistently test it.
