    what a true passionate Irishman & singer--and one not to forget out ethnic brothers the Travellers. I met him a few times in Sheehans off Grafton Street-Valerie adored him and his wild attire Orange leather and pink ties!! Blue suede shoes too! My mon.

    Thank you dear Ken - cuz- MacTheranain of course as a Dubliner he must have been mighty to you and your mates.....sadl;y missed. I recall the day the news came that he had passed-i spoke of it with my masters' postgrad students one who wept openly in class bringing a dimming to my eyes.And a socialist-self taught. RIP Luke

    Just played this in the bar for a very loud man from London who kept telling me his grandmother was a gypsy. Had to leave cos of the din. Now that I can smoke here legally ffs, I’ve no need of much more company but my own. Plus brought up some beer from the bar.

    None were Pavee (aka Irish Travellers) The Fureys are Travellers though. Frankie Gavin the fiddler from Galway is one too on his Fathers side

    Please don't forget to credit Ewan McColl for the lyrics (Radio Ballads 1964) before you start claiming it as irish traditional! Great version, but it does get up my nose when people don't quote sources.
