Got the VII a week after release I sent the JP2c back in favor of the VII They are both incredibly JP2c for 2 hot lead channels VII for 2 hot crunch channels The VII is more versatile for my needs and I can get the dirtiest JP sounds out of it as well Both great amps Second eq was not a factor for me on the JP I came hoping too add a 5150 to the harem but was quickly reminded that I can cop any of those EVH chugs with the Boogie
@@thewrathofraf I have the stealth 100 and the el34 100. They are VERY similar. Really no point in owning both. I play the stealth more, so I’m probably go to sell the el34. However the el34 is more user friendly on the clean channel. The Stealth you have to set in an unintuitive way by turning the gain like literally less than 1 and cranking the channel volume to get a good clean.
I've mentioned in other comments, take this video with a grain of salt. Each amp needs a different mic position to sound it's best, and that isn't reflected here. Ultimately, I sold the EVH.
just picked up a mark vii, sounds great, even at 25 watts when i even touch the volume its just instantly loud and in my face. only running two mesa v30's at the moment so i think im missing some bottom end but i have two gt12- 75's on the way to pair with
I’ve gotta tell you man, I pretty well had myself down for an EVH stealth, but after hearing one strum on that Mark VII I’m not so sure. I’m not huge on scooped tones, but it’s like that one is scooped in the right spot, or that it has the mids present in the right spot to maintain presence without sounding honky.
I've been a huge Metallica fan all my life, and when I got this amp, everything just seemed to sound the way it was supposed to. I still love the Stealth, but the Mark VII won for me. I absolutely love it, 7 months later.
Hey man, I asked you about a month ago about 5150s and appreciated your advice (you said, for old school death metal go Iconic), but now is finally amp buying day. I'm in eastern Europe, EVHs are out of stock even in Thomann, Peavey is non-existent in Europe atm but I have these local second hand options: Fryette Deliverance 60, Dual Rectifier rev G and Mesa Mark IV. Fryette is mint condition, taken care of, and cheapest. Unfortunately, these 3 are my only options. Would Deliverance pull off early Death, Incantation, Obituary, Immolation etc... or is it simply not there for that? What would you pick out of those 3 for old school death metal? I promise it's last time I'm bugging you, I know you have first hand experience with all those. I'm buying tomorrow. Ty again for the great content and all the best!
Feel free to ask any questions any time! I did have a D60 at some point, but it was early on in my gear whoring days, so hard to remember exactly...plus my experience at the time was pretty limited when it came to tube amps. I think it can get there, but you will absolutely need a boost to get it there. The dual rec is a death metal classic. Anything in the last 20-ish years from Cannibal Corpse is probably dual rec, boosted with a metal zone. Personally, I would choose the Mark IV. By far my favorite of these amps listed, and probably in my top 5 all time amps.
Those are Gravity microphone clamps. They have 2 versions, so make sure you get the correct size if you buy one. www.gravitystands.com/en/products/microphone-stands/16098/ms-cab-cl-01
i wonder if the 5150iii 100w sounds cleaner than the 50w, I had the 50w Stealth, and it just had a kind of "messy" sound, my Mark VII was super precise and still had that crushing tone to it, so I sold the 50w stealth, this video makes me wonder.
@thewrathofraf damn dude, I think you're right, I had the 5150iii 50W 6L6 a few years ago and remember it sounding really great, I got the Stealth 50w and it just sounded congested to me, even when I backed off the gain a little. I've got to try the 100w
@@donwalker7518 I'm getting too old not to haha. Mesa, EVH, Fryette, Bogner, Marshall, Peavey...you really can't go wrong with any of them. Just need to find what flavors suit you best!
@@donwalker7518 A good friend of mine always goes back to the trusty DSL! I've had so many, and typically 5150s have been where I go back to. I'm sure I will have another eventually. Yeah, take what you hear with a grain of salt. Each amps needs a very different mic position to sound it's best in a recorded settings, and I'd had the EVH for like 2 years at the time of this video, so everything was really dialed in for that amp.
one amp is more expensive and the cheaper one sounds tighther straight out of the box. the stealth that is. mesas are like 8k here in europe. and they always sound to need a boost cut the flubb.
Not sure if you have any experience with Mark series amps, but I have never felt they needed a boost. I tend to only like amps that don't need them because I generally don't like the sound and response of adding a boost. I mentioned in another comment, too, each of these needs a different mic position, so take what you hear with a grain of salt. I've got this Mesa dialed in, now, to sound better than the stealth for what I want to hear. The Stealth is a great amp, but I don't have it any more, and I don't miss it. It's all preference, but I can assure you this Mesa does not flubb unless you want it to.
@@thewrathofraf solid point and good explanation. I know death angel uses a mark 5. The rythm guitarist. Sounds killer there. I'm with you on using a boost. You can buy a more then decent car for the price of a mark 5. i think it hits 5k easely. the evh here is 2k at best. 2k even is a bit pricey. But i think i rather have amp under 2k in euros. My engl se back when it was still available was also one of the more expensive ones if i'm correct.
@@ArjanSnijder Yeah, no amp is worth $8k. That is just an insane price. When I had Mark IVs, those were around $1250, my old Mark V was $1400. I haven't tried an SE, though. I agree about the $2k range. I don't think it's necessary for amps to cost much more than that. It's a new cab, so 240. I think the 280 is before the V30 wattage rating change. They used to rate them at 70 watts.

That is a LEF MSS. I actually have this guitar for sale on Reverb currently.
Is that a LEF Custom guitar?
It is.
