    Larry Allen is one of the reasons the Emma Smith as all-time rushing title Emmitt Smith is the biggest reason why he has that title though

    • @jeremywade6986
      @jeremywade6986 Pƙed 4 lety +7

      Emmit won 3 consecutive rushing titles before Allen was drafted. The Cowboys entire offensive line was stacked through the 90s even before Allen. During the 95 season, the only season Emmitt led the NFL in rushing with Allen on the line, 3 other Cowboys offensive lineman made the Pro Bowl.

      @@jeremywade6986 exactly, when the Cowboys won the superbowl 3 times in a row.... that was an honest to god dream team. they had a beastly defense, and an offense without compare. Living in Texas in the early 90's, all you heard about was the Cowboys, to make matters worse... my highschool football team was also dominating, having reached the finals/semiFinals/Quarterfinals every year for 8 years straight. So if you cut someone from my hometown, they would have bleed football. It was kinda insane now that i look back on those years. It was like living in a cult.

      @Sadarsa No team has ever won the superbowl 3 times in a row. The cowboys did it back to back, made it to the NFC championship in 94, and lost it to the 49ers. Jerry Jones is the dumbest football owner in history because of what he did to Jimmy Johnson who is the man that built the team that won those superbowls. He was mad that Jimmy was getting all the credit for it and not him so it created a rift between them and Jimmy left after winning back to back superbowls. Jerry proceeded to hire one of the dumbest coaches in football history in Barry Switzer who just rode on Jimmy's Coat tales to an NFC championship appearance in 94 and Superbowl championship in 95. The team proceeded to go down a spiral of mediocrity after that. If Jerry wasn't such a diva and an attention hog the 90's cowboys would've won 4 or 5 superbowls in a row and would be cemented as the greatest dynasty in football history.

    You don't see 330 pounds even in their 20's run down a 230 to 240 linebacker from a dead stop. Larry Allen was one of the best linemen you can see. Don't forget he was in the pro bowl both as a guard (the one right next to the center) and a tackle (right next to the guard). That is extremely hard to do. Yet he did and is the big reason why Emmitt Smith the running back was able to be the NFL rushing leader of all time.

    I looked it up. Patrick Mahomes has a 4.8 - in the 40 yard dash as well. Patrick is a Mobile QB, 225lbs, 6'2" -
    And Larry Allen, over 2 decades before him - ran the same speed, at over a hundred pounds heavier...
    you cannot understate just how absolutely insane he was physically. couple that with the fact he was actually smart, knew where to block, when to block, where to shove the guy he was blocking - and could INTIMIDATE the linebackers - fellow hall of famers even - tell them exactly where he was going, that the guy he was blocking for was going to go right behind Allen - and there was nothing the defender could do about it, except watch - probably on his back after Larry Allen flattened him.
    I remember watching - ***that*** play. and I was still a bit of a kid so I didn't really understand what was going on, but it's like they glossed over in the video. When the play happened - the stadium went nuts, the fans were going crazy over the saints player nearly going in for a pick six (that is an interception for a touchdown) - but the announcers and staff can't get over what just happened with Allen.
    He was standing there, didn't even realize it was picked off - he was from a dead stop - picked up speed, then tackled the guy really well (remember, he's an offensive lineman. tackling is not his job. he prevents people from tackling his people) - hell he even out ran Aikman who was well behind the line of scrimmiage and had a good angle on the defender...
    like that whole play... was just insane.
    It's like Tom Dempsey setting the first 63 yard field goal. THAT play was insane.

    Offensive line play is really esoteric. It's nearly impossible for a non fan to understand what goes on in the trenches. It's even really difficult for die hard fans to grasp the techniques and schemes they see on the TV unless that fan has played offensive/defensive line in college or the pros. People think it's just a bunch of fat guys pushing each other around, but offensive line play at the top levels is very intricate and technique oriented. You live in Japan, so I'm sure you're familiar with Sumo. It's like Sumo wrestling but you do it as a team. If you sat down and watched some of Larry's plays, you probably wouldn't really understand what it is that's going on. Oh, sure, you would grasp the 1000 foot perspective, but the intricacies, schemes and technique would be completely lost to you, just as it is for most football fans.
    I'll tell you something that will give you a hint on just how tough a position it is to play. On average, offensive linemen in the NFL have the second highest IQ out of any other position, only slightly surpassed by the quarter back position. Not only do they have to be strong, big and agile, they have to be smart as well.

    Good players look bad behind bad blockers, and bad players look good. Most NFL quarterbacks look great when they have 4 seconds to pass, and most NFL running backs look great when they have giant holes to run through.
    Viewers always want to keep their eye on the ball though, so only those who really love the game deep watch the big guys upfront.

    Watch Peyton Manning's neck injury. He finished that season, sat out a year to recover from surgery, gets cut by the Colts, recovers, signs and plays 4 years with Broncos, and retires after winning another Super Bowl with his second team. Only quarterback, ever, to start and win Super Bowls for two different teams. He also took 4 different head coaches to the Super Bowl in his 18 year career.
