The reason this feels like _an actual_ The Last of Us story is, due in part, to its commitment to the source material's storytelling style. Not only with the matched frames (which blew my mind, to be clear) but with the overall pacing of the images. Cycling between small, beautiful moments with frantic, pulse-pounding moments, to suddenly smash cut to exhausted relief is everything The Last of Us does in spades over the course a few minutes. Incredible. *3. The script and concept are baffling smart, even if seemingly simple* Trying to find actors who can act like Ellie or Joel or Abby or any of the characters of The Last of Us is going to be a near impossible task, especially on a short film budget. Not to mention, their stories have been told so well to us already, it isn't all that engaging to see it played out on a small screen for us, especially if the acting doesn't work as well. Centering this story on the kind of folks we read notes about in the games frees the creator and the audience up from having to compare and contrast how they saw the characters in game and in the short film. They can experience life in the world of The Last of Us without all of the baggage of connection to the main characters. The only baggage the audience carries is the basics of The Last of Us world building - what's the world like, what are the infected like, and what happens if you get bit? But the brilliance of this short is that it successfully bridges the two together by having Ellie make a cameo appearance. This successfully ties the short into the wider story that we know and care about, effectively borrowing the emotions and narrative weight associated with those main storylines. So, if even though osmosis, as we see that final image of the man cradling the woman, encrusted to the wall, an impotent clicker, we are not only asked to reckon with the truth that he gave up after his significant other's death and was infected - as Ellie approaches, we are also invited to reckon with the emotional heft of her story of grief and loss and rage at a world that seems so hellbent on destroying everything. It's beautiful. *4. The practical effects are mesmerizing* That final image of the clicker cradling the girl is not only haunting and horrifying - it's beautiful. @@Rihannastepson Not really. It depends. You require a brain for personality, the frontal lobe especially. If the fungus sprouts out of their heads like it does with clickers, that frontal lobe is destroyed completely. This is why runners cry and moan, how you hear them gagging and the vomit sounds while they're eating flesh. It's because they're aware of whats happening though they can't stop it. I'm just saying, clickers and the forms afterwards don't have a person left inside because the frontal lobe is destroyed.
This is absolutely incredible. You really understood the game and what kind of story it was trying to tell and told your own version perfectly. Whole team absolutely smashed it. This is beyond 'a fan film on CZcams'.
I believe this is along the lines of what the upcoming "the last of us" series should be, we've already seen Joel and Ellie's story through the games. I believe the show would be better if we see it through a different perspective.
@@joeyvas I see where youre coming from but I also believe that's what ruins it as well. They're just telling a story that we know pretty much all of. If we got new charicters we could get some more world perspective on the infection, another reason why is because since its about Ellie and Joel it kinda sets our expectations high, where as a new cast would keep our expectations low and easier to impress the viewers.
I agree however I think the viewpoint from the HBO series is to treat everyone as though they know nothing about this world, start again and build from there. Besides there is no reason there can't be some episodes in the tv show where we follow unknown people like this. If this short film showed and teached us anything it's that a one off diversion can tell a touching story in a shorter timescale than a whole game(s) can.
But the reason the decided to make the tv show is to allow people who are unable to play video games to experience the story of Ellie and Joel. We as fans might have preferred something else in the world of the last of us because the world itself is hauntingly beautiful, to me at least. I have a lot of friends who don’t really play video games so I’m excited for them to experience the story even as a tv show. I assume they are going to add things here and there though. I just don’t know if 6 episodes are enough for season 1.
Goddamn this is masterpiece, the contrast between the calm of the music and the brutality of their world has a comparison with the real game, this should get an oscar or something like that.
Mannn that shot of him holding her body as a clicker was beautiful! Awesome work everyone involved! And Joshua- keep at it. You’ve got something real here :)
This is amazing. Pure art. I've never been this amazed by a short film before. And the fact that it was made by fans is just incredible. You can see the love and care they put in this. The first time I watched it I was completely inspired and feeling a mix of emotions by this outstanding and beautiful ending. I hope in a future The Last of Us game they include a dead clicker holding the woman's body as a reference to this incredible short film. This deserves to be part of the TLoU universe. Great job!
The fact that you were able to produce something this impressive using the tools at your disposal is absolutely incredible! I don't think I've ever seen a fan made project have such good acting, writing, production and just soul honestly. Amazing job
I really enjoy how the notes she plays at the start are the exact ones Ellie plays in the first trailer. Except with a different capo and lyrics. Nice touch.
Absolutely brilliant take. I also think this goes to show why zombies, in general, are so persistent in pop culture. They’re a powerful horror because they’re monsters that used to be people. People that were loved and loved others. This was heart-wrenching to watch in just a few minutes’ time. Well done!
They aren’t even zombies thats whats really dark about it because they are conscious and have no control over their nerves so they see the horror and they can taste human flesh but they cannot control themselves. This is why they fidget and fight within themselves when you see an idle one.
Loved it! That transition of him holding her after he shot her then of him being plastered to the wall as a clicker was awesome. My only gripe with this short film is that Ellie wore converse not adidas lol.
I can’t believe I’m just now seeing this. Everything from the acting, the set, cinematography, makeup…EVERYTHING in this was 10/10. You guys created a beautiful piece of film. I’ve love the tlou franchise since 2013 and this is a masterpiece. Well done to your whole team!
First I watched it and cried. But then when I was done crying I went back to just admire how amazing this is. The plot, the acting, the makeup, the way the story is told... I'm in awe! This is everything I could want from a short film like this. Bravo!!!
I vividly remember watching this like a week ago and my God coming back to this short film after years it just was so much I couldn't help myself and just started balling just watching these people live life in the world of the last of us and just have it swiped away it's too much don't take any time for granted especially with loved ones and to the creator thank you for making such a masterpiece
This was absolutely amazing! Neil Druckman would've definitely added something like this as a part in The Last Of Us lore as you played as Ellie in the second game. There's amazing camera work and on-point makeup/clothing choices. The wait for this video was so worth it!
The thing is, stuff like this is already all around in the TLoU games. In notes, in environments. One of the bleakest stories in part II was of Paige and her husband. She's the corpse you find in the building with the rope puzzle on day 2 of Seattle. You see a headless corpse on the ground. There is a rope hanging down. You use that rope to solve a little puzzle. You realize that this rope is actually a noose, and that woman was gutted and hung by the Seraphites. You go inside her hideout, get her supplies. See tally marks for days on the whiteboard. You get a note from her, saying how her husband went out to get pills for her, but didn't come back and she saw scars in the area. A bit later, on the same day, you find a corpse which bled out. It is basically a skeleton by now. There are pills all around him. You get a bloody note from him, urging the reader to get the pills to his Pregnant wife back at the convention center. All of this is completely missable if the player doesn't pay attention or doesn't find it. But it's there. There are MANY little stories like this in the game. It would be weird to move away from Ellie to focus on these things, so all of these little stories are just littered around the map. Almost every corpse you find has a story and it's really cool
Man it's simply awesome! It literally almost made me cry like the original game, had goosebumps every damn second. The direction, the vfx, acting... everything is perfect
One of the best fan films I've ever seen. Beautiful cinematography, incredible sound design, and wildly impressive production value. If you don't mind saying, what was the budget for this film???
This has to be one best short films i have seen, everyone involved clearly put a lot of love and passion into this proyect, and there's so many detaills where you feel that the people behind this love the world of the Last Of Us as much as the fans, and amazing work to everyone that make proyects like this happen, keep it up, and good luck :)

Bruh this actually made me tear up, we never even got to see a whole lot of their relationship but I’ve seen enough of these situations in movies where I couldn’t hold back the tears. I would never be able to go through something like this, losing a loved one. This was outstanding 10/10
Love it. Absolutely nailed the tone of the series. I gave you guys a shout on the Project Spores fan made film and they said they watched this as inspiration during the filming of their film. I watched their film once...it was good, but this one actually pulls real emotion out of me. Just like the games. Both part 1 and ESPECIALLY part 2. Thank you!
This fan made TLOU short was a hundred times better than anything coming out of Hollywood. Great acting, story and effects. This one affected me. I wanted more.
This was actually really good. I've seen a lot of fan films, and this didn't disappoint. The relationships actually seemed and felt realistic and human. Even though it was a short film, I cried near the end.
This is just absolutely excellent. A jarring, real perspective on everyone else's life in the hellworld of TLOU. This was painful, but it was just as beautiful. Thank you.
It was. It’s crazy how this game really turned out to be. Honestly I was just listening to everyone else’s opinion and was thinking that it was terrible. But then I saw the gameplay for both games, and I really underestimated it. I personally think that Part ll is a video game masterpiece that will age like fine wine 🍷
I’ve been watching this project from the very beginning on Tiktok and I would just like to say, well done. From the storyline to the character and every detail is just so perfect. Congrats on this amazing piece of art!

That was trully amazing. The whole empathy i fell i gave to this characters. You've just told the actual story from "The Last Of Us" for a few mins! And this is was the story about second characters, that we usually see as dead persons or zombies in this game. Fascinating.

This is why runners cry and moan, how you hear them gagging and the vomit sounds while they're eating flesh. It's because they're aware of whats happening though they can't stop it.
I'm just saying, clickers and the forms afterwards don't have a person left inside because the frontal lobe is destroyed.
@@shaneasprey9734 the runners also always look downwards and cry when they aren’t trying to rip you apart
@@bink5242 they looks like they out of control of their body and the only thing that they could do is to cry in misery.
Did not expect that ending, what a story. The show better live up to this standard
This actually feels like one of the many sad stories you see in notes in the games, Brilliant job on the film to everyone involved!
My... What an ending, the final reveal made me cry, just seeing that frame speaks a lot of what happened and the love between the two persons.
The opening was so touching. I would love to hear the full cover of Ellie's Have You Ever Seen the Rain
I would also love to hear it
Me tooo!
Yea, I love how that song fits the film so well
That cover is masterpiece too
I've been waiting for this for ages and was not let down, great job.
First
imo this was quite disappointing
I’m truly amazed by the production quality and how loyal to TLOU everything felt. Huge props to everyone involved
I feel if it was, it just be another tv show about zombies. With Joel and Ellie, we know what happens and have that connection
@@mhaiki4695 what if they did it by seasons and then Joel prologue and Ellie’s time when she was still with the fire flies
It's rare for fan short films to be this well shot and acted. I am very very surprised at this.
Goddamn this is masterpiece, the contrast between the calm of the music and the brutality of their world has a comparison with the real game, this should get an oscar or something like that.
That was the most docile clicker I have ever seen, as if it still retained a tiny bit of its humanity. That would be a first in this series.
And that would be freaking horrifying.
Absolutely loved this. Thank you for creating & sharing!
Mannn that shot of him holding her body as a clicker was beautiful!
Awesome work everyone involved!
And Joshua- keep at it. You’ve got something real here :)
Slow burner but nicely laid out. Make up all looked amazing. Really solid work
This is amazing.
Great job!
Ye this def bout to blow up, kudos to everyone invovled!
Funny to see you here m8👋🏻
@TheUnchartedBrickster haha, thanks for sayin hi! 👊🏽
Nice touch.
That scene with the clicker holding her girl is probably one of the saddest shots I've seen. That was a gut punch to the feels my man holy shit
I love the stories of other "survivors" who lived through the times Ellie and Joel have been through
Loved it! That transition of him holding her after he shot her then of him being plastered to the wall as a clicker was awesome. My only gripe with this short film is that Ellie wore converse not adidas lol.
I was thinking that 😅
I can’t believe I’m just now seeing this. Everything from the acting, the set, cinematography, makeup…EVERYTHING in this was 10/10. You guys created a beautiful piece of film. I’ve love the tlou franchise since 2013 and this is a masterpiece. Well done to your whole team!
This short film was incredible
What a great interpretation! I love how you incorporated Ellie but made it its own story of someone else.
First I watched it and cried. But then when I was done crying I went back to just admire how amazing this is. The plot, the acting, the makeup, the way the story is told... I'm in awe! This is everything I could want from a short film like this. Bravo!!!
Beautiful story. TLOU has such an amazing and complex world. I love the stories creators come up with that are outside of the main canon.
Holy shit that ending was incredible.
Fuck... goosebumbs. The atmosphere is exactly like the game...but more realistic so more terrifying. And the last image... I've cried.
This was amazing. Probably one of, if not the best short film I’ve ever seen on CZcams. The attention to every detail was pure perfection. Just wow
Yeah I like how they took some inspiration from the trailer
That final shot of the two of them is amazing.
Whoahhhh - this is epic, thank you all
Man it's simply awesome! It literally almost made me cry like the original game, had goosebumps every damn second. The direction, the vfx, acting... everything is perfect
Turned out amazing! 🔥
So happy I got the chance to participate in this project :)
One of the best fan films I've ever seen. Beautiful cinematography, incredible sound design, and wildly impressive production value. If you don't mind saying, what was the budget for this film???
I was on a few of these sets. Most of the crew was friends and favors, this was almost zero budget. Incredibly talented group of people though.
@@caseydietrich380 I did the sound design. Can confirm :)
This has to be one best short films i have seen, everyone involved clearly put a lot of love and passion into this proyect, and there's so many detaills where you feel that the people behind this love the world of the Last Of Us as much as the fans, and amazing work to everyone that make proyects like this happen, keep it up, and good luck :)
woooooooww!!!! that really just tripped me out !! yoo the fact that this took me on a journey of two lovers fighting to stay together till the very end; while he's holding her as they slowly turned **wipes tears** and how you connect two different story lines beautifully woven them together OH MY GOSH !!!!!!!
You absolutely nailed the feel of the games, the story was so moving and it was shot perfectly. Wow. You've really set the bar for the upcoming TV series!
Thank you!
The love he has for her is so strong that he never even moved while ellie was singing.
It was pretty good I liked it, as a theatre major everything in the short film was perfect.Good job.
HOLY CRAP THIS IS AMAZING
Oh wow. This was brilliant. Such beautiful imagery at the end. I cried my eyes out. Thank you for making this.
Best short film I've seen in a while. Great job to you the writers and the whole crew!!
Wow this was beautifully put together. The emotion the storytelling the visuals was great. Thank you for this! 🙏🏾
I’ve been watching this project from the very beginning on Tiktok and I would just like to say, well done. From the storyline to the character and every detail is just so perfect. Congrats on this amazing piece of art!
I did not expect to find this gem in my "recommended" list. Damn...this was beyond fantastic. It was touching.
Excellent job to everyone involved.
This was so heartbreakingly beautiful. Well done.
This was a masterpiece. Beautifully casted and produced. Loved every detail and effort put into this video.
This was AMAZING. My goodness! It really captured the Spirit of TLOU. This could easily be the story behind one of the many collectibles you find in Part II. Thank you to you Joshua and the 40 artists that poured their heart into this, you are all AMAZING.
This is amazing you get entranced in everything you love it then shakes you with the haunting image and you see what the characters see and you feel what they feel amazing job 👍
MORE!!!
This was great, the effects, the story, the mood, just all of it. Bravo!!
That was trully amazing. The whole empathy i fell i gave to this characters. You've just told the actual story from "The Last Of Us" for a few mins! And this is was the story about second characters, that we usually see as dead persons or zombies in this game. Fascinating.
Okay, this was genuinely fantastic. Was hard to lighten to the dialogue at some points, but aside from that... The lighting, the acting, the effects, the shot selection... Brilliant stuff.
Probably the best TLoU fan film I've seen.
Keep on keeping on, y'all :)
This was amazing, even in just these seven minutes, the pacing felt really good and the story telling was amazing, I think I speak for all of us when I say we would support you to make more!
These short films are so interesting because there's always other stories that aren't told during post apocalyptic stories, like the last of us or walking dead and its interesting to me to see things like this. Very good acting btw and extremely good camera work
Absolutely AMAZING! Such beautiful cinematography and compelling plot.
Fantastic job! Definitely worth the wait. Props to everyone involved!
The attention to detail and how they told the story in 7 min left me wanting for more. Either way everything “clicked” and was amzing
Man… That was heart wrenchingly sad. AMAZING acting. Absolutely fantastic work !!! ❤️💯
Absolutely loved this. Bravo, Mr. Toonen.
WOW, absolutely WOW, I cant describe how impressive that was. It Took a lot time and a lot of work, but you made the best out of it👍
Phenomenal work. Everyone who had a hand in this should be extremely proud
Absolutely fantastic. Great job by all. Very much captured the essence of the games and captured all emotions.
im sobbing. this is so unbelievably good. yall are so talented
Beautiful. This really shows how much the world of TLOU is ripe for more stories. I love it.
I felt a chill through my body, this is beautiful ...
wow, this SHOT with them hugging each other is insanely good
This was so well done and shot beautifully. Great job!
Dude that was one of the best short films I have ever seen
This really puts in to context how fragile life is in the world of TLOU! You love someone, one bite, and they’re gone!
This is amazing! Incredible work. One of the best fan films I've ever seen.
This was incredibly made. GREAT cinematography and acting. I love stories about people in tlou world. Great job!
Making me feel a type of way! Big fan of the series and you captured it’s true essence as a title.
Also much love from a fellow fox cities native 🤘🏼
I love how a guy on youtube with 14k subs (absolutely no offense) can do a better job casting Ellie than HBO. Great job btw, this was really good.
Loved this, characterization and the tone and just everything were awesome
A million chef kisses. What a beautiful thing you all made here. Congrats on this successful short film and I hope to see more someday. ❤️
