The first part about leashes was exactly what I needed to watch. To secure heddles on a heddle rod I was taught to pull up the loopover the rod and then twist around the rod one more time to lock the heddle before making the next heddle.Thanks.

@@fibersanddesignweaving Um, maybe I don't get it after all. I just finished warping my loom, tied string to the strings and then looped the strings around a stick. (Following an example I saw on backstrap weaving.) But the shed stick and the string heddle blocked each other. Any suggestions on what I did wrong? I had the shed stick under the strings. I tied the strings around an Rx bottle so they would all be the same length then put them on a dowel rod. I tried moving the shed stick above the strings, but then the stick couldn't beat down the weft. (Is that how you spell weft?)
P.S. Two hours later: At last! I finally got it. Man oh man, what an ordeal. ;-P LOL

Love DIY ideas. I’m just starting to weave and not ready to invest a lot in equipment yet.

I've never heard of a string heddle or leash and this video doesn't actually explain what they are or what they're used for. At first I thought it was like a pile weave but it seems like it's actually a tool to assist in weaving? I'm making my way through your entire collection of videos and this is the first one I didn't really follow!

If you use a shed rod you already can easily make one shed. The string heddle is a way to make your other shed with every other warp thread. They are called leashes when they are loose as she demonstrated first (they let you pull on the warp threads- like your dog on a leash) or heddles.
