l'indebolimento fisico degli italiani è reale. in giro ne hanno tutti una. per l'alimentazione sempre più passivamente sbilanciata verso i cereali, e infatti siamo sempre più pieni di celiaci, morbo di crohn e mille altri disturbi. non che l'alimentazione americana sia migliore, anzi loro mangiano direttamente porcherie industriali a tutto spiano, fanno prima, e pure loro coi cereali ci danno dentro, e che sia col glutine o senza glutine, integrale o raffinato, è già tanto se sanno se sanno al differenza, per non parlare dello zucchero e degli additivi dappertutto. (e anche lì ci siamo subito accodati a copiare). 'che per arrivare prima alla tomba ormai tra noi e loro si fa a gara. ma penso ormai in tutto il mondo. qui ci vantiamo tanto della nostra alimentazione ma neppure noi sappiamo più cosa sia, e per di più in italia si sta cominciando a mangiare sempre più all'americana ma solo nel peggio, mentre qualcosa di buono potremmo pure impararlo, ma siamo troppo orgogliosi del nostro blindato degrado per renderci conto che siamo degradati anche noi, a modo nostro, fighetto ed emaciato. forse ci salva il fatto che non facciamo ancora l'uso smodato di alcol che fanno gli americani, ma a osservare i giovani siamo sulla buona strada pure sotto quell'aspetto, ma per essere veramente sicuri di rovinarsi, insieme ai superalcolici vuoi non metterci anche un 'po di coca e pasticche? unico miglioramento, trovo, è che si fumano drasticamente meno sigarette di un tempo: questo è veramente incredibile, oserei dire quasi offensivo... siam pur sempre latini, e checcazzo.

I live in Greece and almost everything that you mentioned is the same here. For example we have this thing too with the cold air 😂 If it's cold outside your mother will not allow you to leave the house without a scarf or not be buttoned up because you will get sick or get a neck pain if the air "hits" you.Also kissing and eating in the table is the same. We peel the fruits that you mentioned too, and the reason why is because the pesticides that are being used for the fruits to grow are in larger concentration at the peel. Il fatto di sedersi a tavola per noi è importante semplicemente perché essendo la nostra cultura molto legata al cibo teniamo particolarmente a dare il giusto spazio ed il giusto tempo ai pasti, e di solito è anche il punto di incontro della famiglia, il momento in cui c'è più dialogo, perché in altre situazioni non riusciamo mai ad essere tutti insieme e tutti tranquilli e non c'è la stessa atmosfera che c'è a tavola. Chi non si siede a tavola è proprio considerato "maleducato". Io ad esempio non riuscirei mai a cenare sul divano sapendo che anche mia madre sta cenando da un'altra parte della casa, cioè mi sentirei proprio in colpa ahahahahah
purtroppo anche questa tradizione sta finendo. uno sul divano, uno sul balcone, uno al cesso, l'altro affanculo, ma tutti in qualche modo davanti alla televisione. separatamente. che ormai averne 4 in casa è normale. (più del numero dei componenti famigliari; averne uno in più, come una ruota di scorta, è un must. ce da dire che il prezzo dei televisori si è abbassato notevolmente rispetto a decenni fa: bel risultato devastante. tutti a guardar cagate, poi). sono sempre meno le famiglie unite. sono sempre meno le famiglie proprio. sono meno gli italiani in sè, quando moriranno i vecchi la popolazione si dimezzerà ogni mezza generazione, l'opposto degli immigrati i quali si decuplicano in due mesi volentieri. e forse è giusto così, gli stupidi - cioè noi - soccombono, quelli con più forza vitale e meno cazzi in testa sopravvivono. alle ragazze russe spero facciano un monumento: l'estrema resistenza che potrebbe salvare le famiglie italiane, salvare il salvabile. se no è veramente la fine.

When i stay two day in NY, i was shocked, in the morning the only people seated in the bar are tourists, the other people, run with something to eat/drink in the hands. Sorry for may so bad grammar.
Actually eating in front of tv is a bad habit, since it makes fat gaining easier.
Plus today eating together is pratically the only chance to speak quietly.
The "convivio", convivial, in fact means "live together".
Tia Taylor in Italy there is nothing more important to do than eating. So if you have a meeting or something, they'll wait. Eat and enjoy it.
It is not only about food. It also a moment of relax for yourself. and a moment, eventually, to enjoy the company of friends and family.
Finally, eating "in a rush" is a really bad habit, for your health.
By the way, eating food while walking is not uncommon to me, and people sometimes look at me weirdly, but they will do it too at some point in their life! they will be late and need to have their breakfast brioche while running, so just take breakfast away at the bar and eat it in the street if you want (that's my advice)!

Io devo sempre tenere il mio stomaco coperto, anche in estate quando si alza il vento. Io sono cresciuto in Svizzera e a tutti i miei amici è sempre sembrata un'assurdità, ma purtroppo rimpiango le poche volte che ho provato ad ignorare il fastidio, convincendomi che stavo esagerando.. Ciao Tia, sulle pubblicità che tu hai citato come strane, hai in effetti ragione. Però è sbagliato dire che fanno parte dell’umorismo all’italiana. La pubblicità con l’asteroide stava per essere bannata dallo schermo proprio perché suonava strana e macabra anche per la maggioranza degli italiani, e non ti dico quante polemiche. Invece la campagna per la fertilità ha avuto uno sdegno popolare tale che ci sono state manifestazioni. Insomma, non ha fatto ridere nemmeno qui, anzi! Cioè, non le userei come esempio dell’umorismo italiano.

La frutta si sbuccia per una questione di igiene, perché comunque la buccia la possono toccare tutti anche con le mani sporche.
Per il fatto di mangiare mentre si va a scuola anche io a volte mangio tra una lezione e l'altra e non c'è nulla di strano.
Per il fatto di apparecchiare la tavola a ogni pasto, sedersi a tavola e parlare con le persone che ci sono a tavola, raccontare la propria giornata è una cosa che trovo molto bella anzi Non mi piace stare in silenzio a guardare la tv. Trovo che sia un momento non solo per nutrirsi come azione in sé ma anche per stare con la famiglia e parlare un po
si faranno sicuramente meglio loro a mangiare sul divano , nel letto o in macchina... A noi italiani penso che ci si può attaccare su diversi fronti ma non su igiene, cibo ed educazione
Il mio massimo, andando a scuola, è stato mangiare una pizza (non una pizzetta) da asporto camminando... Un'esperienza da non ripetere.
Per quello che so mangiare in movimento o mentre si fa altro (ad esempio guardare la tv) può creare problemi digestivi.
(Probabilmente per una richiesta maggiore di sangue in varie parti del corpo e con conseguente riduzione del flusso sanguigno allo stomaco e conseguente cattiva digestione)
Condivido il fatto che sedersi a tavola sia un momento di riunione anche se la tv è accesa, ma l'essere faccia a faccia spinge di più a parlare.. anche su una pubblicità del cazzo 😂

Voglio solo far presente che per "colpo d'aria" si intende l'improvvisa esposizione a una temperatura molto più bassa di quella in cui ci si trovava prima. Quindi semplificando il concetto diciamo che si prende freddo. Come si dice prendere un raffreddore in inglese? 😏 Quindi questa credenza che la malattia fosse dovuta al freddo e non a un virus mi sa che non è solo nostra. In secondo luogo non é infondato il fatto che il freddo può acuire in taluni casi dolori muscolari e/o scheletrici come può essere il dolore cervicale. Basta riflettere sulle cose! XOXO
Il colpo d'aria non viene da virus, ma da una reazione infiammatoria del corpo a uno sbalzo di temperatura in cui si sente freddo troppo all'improvviso, la cui cosa per il corpo è uno shock, e si infiamma come reazione "difensiva", allora si alza la temperatura in reazione di "difesa". È il caso in cui la febbre non la attacchi a nessuno proprio perché non è da virus, e dopo qualche giorno di riposo passa...
Ho risoosto al commento senza vedere il video, perché sono reduce da un altro suo pieno di minchiate, quindi ora non ho le forze mentali di aprire anche questo XD

No, i problemi alla cervicale possono venire anche prima, però sta qua ha detto che gli italiani girano tutti in sciarpa per paura di problemi alla cervicale, bisogna farle dei video sputtanamento di risposta, ci sta facendo passare per un popolo di ipocondriaci fissati!!! I'm with the Italians about eating at the table. After all, thats what a table is for! The couch isn't made for eating, in fact I find that really hard to do, awkward, except for snacky-type things. And cold drafts, and cold in particular, makes me stiff and achy, even when I was younger.

I suffer from cervicale and I can assure you wind or cold air in general can give you the worst of neck pains if you have this problem. And I'm 20! I've had this since I was little though. So it's not about Italy or old people, it's just an "illness" like any other.

Regarding the ad: you need some background to understand that. Their competitors (Mulino Bianco) always shows happy families. Dad and mom are perfect when they wake up from their beds, kids are smiling and laughing and they are eager to go to school after a healthy breakfast. In Italy we give food a lot of respect. If you have to eat something you have to give it the right time. No one in Italy would ever like to just grab a caffe and drink it while walking. I'm abroad now and if I have to eat in this way I really don't know how, I feel I'm chocking everytime. For the table my mother always says that if you are with someone and not by yourself at dinner or lunch you have to sit at table with them becouse it's a way for respect them: you are doing something important (eating) with someone important. That' s becouse is so important if someone invete you to eat together. It's sound very Italian but it's true.
fiamminga 95 true, I think we always sit down to eat cause when you eat you are doing something so important you don't need to do other stuff that discocentrate you from what you are doing and what you put in your mouth . I mean, if you're on late that's ok but why do you have the need to do more things while you're eating if you have the time to do everything? I feel like we are so conscious about how important it is to take your time to give your body energy for the day and of course enjoy the meal , that's why it's so obvious for us to sit down, and it's just something we learn since we are young

Chia _ nemmeno a casa mia. A tavola niente Tv. E anche io lo capisco più ora che un tempo. A tavola si mangia, si gusta il cibo con calma e si parla. Si sta con la famiglia. È il momento in cui ci si riunisce e si condivide più che in qualunque altro momento della giornata e nel frattempo si mangia, cosa che noi italiani amiamo fare. Personalmente trovo, in quanto cresciuto così, fuori luogo fare altro quando si mangia.

I don't know how to explain it, hope you got it anyway xD also, we take our time to eat at a table because it's an important moment of the day, we like to eat in peace, not while running from a place to another one, because eating is not only something you do to stay alive but it's also a pause, a moment of relax or a moment in which you can talk with your friends!

Per quello che riguarda la frutta, in generale, noi italiani facciamo estrema attenzione a ciò che mangiamo. Non solo siamo molto pignoli sul tipo di cibo, ma lo siamo anche e soprattutto sulla qualità delle materie prime e su ciò che contengono. Non per nulla siamo una delle nazioni con il maggior numero di controlli sul cibo ed etichettiamo praticamente tutto, inserendo ogni tipo di ingrediente del prodotto e, IN PIÙ, anche di eventuali allergeni con cui POTREBBE essere entrato in contatto.
Tornando alla frutta. Non tutti sbucciano mele e pere, ma chi non lo fa, solitamente, lava a fondo la frutta o si accerta che provenga da agricoltura biologica. Questo perché la buccia trattiene la maggior parte dei trattamenti (pesticidi o concimi o altro) con cui vengono irrorate le piante da frutta. Inoltre, spesso vengono anche lucidati (in particolare le mele). Per questo, mangiare la buccia della frutta non è sempre considerato salutare.
Non è solo quello, ma anche la diossina si deposita sulla buccia...
in più la frutta del supermercato è trattata in superficie per farla durare di più e infatti c'è scritto di non mangiare la buccia

No, affatto, infatti la buccia in sé fa benissimo. è quello che ci finisce sopra che bene non lo fa affatto.

pizzy frizzy io sto studiando scienze dell alimentazione, e spesso i professori ci hanno detto che la buccia in teoria sarebbe la parte della frutta più ricca di vitamine e sostanze utili, ma che purtroppo la frutta che si compra al supermercato è stata trattata per renderla più resistente al trasporto, contro i parassiti, esteticamente più bella ecc., ed è proprio la buccia che trattiene tutti questi agenti chimici pericolosi. Perciò oggi come oggi meglio togliere la buccia, mentre un tempo assolutamente non era così.

Dear Tia in Italy eating together as a family - overall if there is a guest - is a great and moving sign of love an affection. Italians love to talk together during supper or dinner because in this stressed world it’s always more difficult to meet together just to discuss about the good things that happened and even the problems we had to face during the day. If you were not set down around a table it would be more complicated to share experiences, problems to be fixed and so on. I lived in USA for several years and I realised that people are “reluctant” or unwilling at expressing their own feelings and personal questions to get solved. Americans prefer to appear always “ok” because the choice of sharing life appears like a weakness instead of a real possibility to be helped and just to live better! Anyway in my personal experience I perceived that Americans need more time than Italians to trust in someone but are faster to open their heart when they decided to to do that.

Ma noooo! Il senso del "nel tuo intimo..." non è letterale! Ovvero la parola "intimo" è decisamente molto meno forte della parola "genitali"... Su questa non sono d'accordo! Per intimo significa nella tua igiene intima... che non significa per forza "dentro i tuoi genitali"... La lingua italiana ha una marea infinita di sfumature e di contestualizzazioni!

For weird things in foreign countries.. we live in Tennessee, it gets fairly cold here. I don’t understand why I am the only one wearing a winter jacket. Anyway, as an Italian I wanted to explain to you why we like to eat all together at the table (at least in my family).. during the day everyone has their own things to do, places to go to, people to meet.. so we like to take advantage of the time we spend eating, to dedicate some time to our families or our friends. Plus, for us eating is a pleasure, not just something we do to survive so we like to do it with the ones we care about. Let’s just say that meal time is our favourite time of the day to actually connect with our loved ones.
I hope that I gave you a good enough explanation and that I helped you understand a little bit better this habit of ours. Also, I apologize for any mistake I may have made. 😘😘
About eating sitting down, there's this thing where eating here in italian culture is sort of meant to be a... Relaxed thing you do with your family or in the privacy of your home, like it's supposed to be a privilege eating with someone and it creates a 'bond', I'd say. Not that I actually always agree as a native Italian, but that's what I see around. Also the chilly thing is supposed to imply that by being 'nel tuo intimo' they're a product close to you emotionally as well, at least that's how I always got it as.
I am Italian and I don't get the touchy greeting too. I just feel unconfortable to hug and kiss strangers, I don't even do that with my closest friends. And I have been judged as a rude person for not doing it but I don't care, I just feel unconfortable doing it, so I don't do it. (I can't listen something in English and write something else in Italian, it's just my mind set, sorry 🙈)

Younger people don’t really do the kiss kiss thing, if I go out and meet friends for a coffee I we either do a one armed hug or just one cheek kiss.

Per noi è importante magiare al tavolo, perché il pranzo e la cena scandiscono la giornata, sono momenti importanti, come dei rituali. Mangiare in piedi, di corsa, sul letto o sul divano mi fa sentire...disagiata! Oltre a sporcare. Per non parlare della tovaglia: se non la metto mi sembra di essere accampata.
Penso che anche il tipo di cose che mangiamo in Italia influisca. Ad esempio, voi magari mangiate un semplice sandwich, noi mangiamo pasta, pane che fa un sacco di briciole, contorno, caffè...insomma, devi apparecchiare per forza! I konw, weird italians...

I'm an Argentinean, all you've mentioned happens in Argentina too. I find kissing and hugging is nice and warm and just waving is cold. Eating at the table is nice and it's like treating yourself better than gulping food while walking in a rush, it's like giving yourself time and being more present. I think it has to do with how you were raised.

Hello Tia, I'm italian and your videos are very funny! An explanation for the Chilly advertising: the slogan don't mean that you have literally Chilly in your intimate parts. "intimo" has a double meaning: it means also the intimate part of your soul, so a more general meaning not referred to an anatomical part of your body. The meaning of the slogan is more something like "chilly is in your soul" or "Chilly is very close to you" 😂.
Tia, I am Italian Living in California, so in a way the opposite situation as yours but also the same. There are certain things that you will never understand, and it’s simply because it’s part of the culture someone grew up with from generations and generations! There are things here that even after 22 years I will never understand fully, and definitely never like a born and raised American does. This goes for the humor as well, certain things (American Over the top humor) I just don’t find funny at all, but some simple Italian one liners, very subtle will make me laugh to tears! I have these comics from Lupo Alberto, I laugh so hard, but when I translate for my husband (which is born and raised here in California) he looks at me with a blank stare and I can tell he just doesn’t get it. You can learn about a culture but if you aren’t born in it certain things will always be foreign. I do love your videos!
PS eating at the table is a way to talk to each other, really savor your food, respect the food and share a meal which in our culture is a big deal, sitting down to eat with someone means we are now friends.

I am an Italian who lived in London for 3 years. Britons and Americans have their differences but they're surely more similar than Italians and Americans or Italians and Britons.
It's true, for most Italians eating is sacred: it's not something you do while doing something else. Some families even forbid their children to watch TV during lunch/dinner time. Good manners say you shouldn't even speak, during a lunch.
I find the whole "dress the table" a little too much but, on the other hand, I was puzzled to see people eating EVERYWHERE in London. Man, I don't wanna smell your food! I don't wanna smell a fucking onion soup at 7.30AM while going to work. For us, as you understood a long time ago, eating is important, food is important. Sharing a meal with someone is the first step in creating a bond. We don't do that in public :D We don't even like restaurants with windows facing the steet :D

Because usually we know what we're eating :p The average kcal incomce for a male is 2500kcal, around 2000kcal for a woman. Not easy to reach, if you eat the Italian way. The reason is that if you don't buy organic fruit the external part can still have chemicals on it, and even if you wash it's not enough as that part of the fruit absorbs chemicals so it's better to take that off 😊 I don't always do it btw, sometimes I'm just too lazy. In teoria gli insetticidi dovrebbero formare una barriera protettiva superficiale ma la buccia della frutta è porosa e c'è sempre un certo assorbimento in profondità. Per essere più sicuri bisognerebbe pelare con la buccia anche una certa porzione di polpa.

Io conosco qualcuno che sbuccia le fragole. Cosa di cui non ho mai capito il motivo. Io cerco di mangiare la frutta con la buccia perche' mi hanno sempre detto che la buccia contiene molti nutrienti importanti, ovviamente se la frutta e' ben lavata.
Razia90 in effetti la buccia contiene la maggior parte dei nutrienti. Si possono mangiare quasi tutte le bucce (mela, pera, arancia, pompelmo, mango, kiwi...). Poi va a guasti personali. Io per esempio non pelo né carote né patate.
Ciao Tia, al di là dei discorsi che fanno tutti sull'avere il pasto tutti assieme a tavola, che in Italia è senza dubbio un usanza consolidata, mangiare in piedi, davanti alla tv o camminando, ti fa mangiare più velocemente con il rischio di ingurgitare più aria. Inoltre, il mangiare velocemente non ti dà lo stesso senso di sazietà che invece hai se mangi lentamente a tavola.
Lessi un libro una volta intitolato "Basta diete" che dava indicazioni di comportamento più che specifiche categorie di cibo da non mangiare e tra i comportamenti sbagliati e a rischio obesità c'era appunto il fatto di non concentrarsi sul pasto in un luogo consono. Mangiare seduti era infatti la prima regola in quel libro.
Ci sono comunque studi interessanti sugli effetti che si hanno quando si sta mangiando e si guarda la TV per il cui il tuo focus non essendo sul cibo che mangi, è spostato, pertanto anche in questo caso mangi più in fretta non godendoti appieno il pasto.
Queste regole a mio parere possono essere abbastanza ignorate in età adulta se si vive da soli ad esempio. Chi non lo fa?
Ma a mio parere è importante insegnare ai bambini a mangiare a tavola poichè dà loro un senso di famiglia e al contempo gli si insegna a sentire il proprio corpo, il proprio senso di sazietà e la propra fame senza futili distrazioni. Inoltre è una buona routine di disciplina.
Spero pertanto che, anche se a te non piace questa regola non scritta, prenderai in considerazione di adottare, anche solo in piccola parte questa tradizione straniera.

Sometimes greetings are weird for us too. Generally speaking the rule is to kiss only people you know already. But sometimes you also kiss somebody you've met the same day/night, but usually only if there has been a good connection, and something clicked.
The "kissing thing" is not a necessity, you can perfectly feel free not to do it without being considered rude. It depends mostly on where [geographically] you live.
The Italian sense oh humour, as in any other country, is deeply connected to the culture, the way of living, etc. It's difficult to really get it and laugh if you have not grown up in Italy. Same happens to me in the UK where, even if the British humour is famous all around the world, people laugh for super silly things like "this morning I saw a guy with a hat at work" and people rolling on the floor laughing...
With regards to the adverts, they simply are not supposed to make people laugh! They just have to get your attention, whatever the means are. What's weird in this? Adverts in any other country have the same "philosophy"
Peeling fruit, in the contemporary world, is right! You are lucky to come from a country where most fruit is still genuine and you can eat it with the skin without any problem! But nowadays, with all the germicide and chemicals added to the crops, do you really want to take the risk to get all that junk in your body?? I don't! And then there are many people who just don't like the taste and the texture of the skin in their mouth.
Last but not least, again eating at the table is not a rule, not everywhere. It's definitely more refined and well-behaved having lunch or dinner at the table than sitting on the floor...

- Per quanto riguarda lo spot della bambina... diciamo che dovrebbe essere un personaggio molto irritante e che quindi vorresti eliminare... un po' tipo nei cartoni animati che cade il masso in testa al cattivo xD
Invece nello spot della Chilly c'e' un gioco di parole: dire che qualcosa e' nel tuo intimo vuol dire che fa parte di te internamente, al livello mentale... tipo "nel mio intimo penso che questa cosa sia giusta". Dal vocabolario dei sinonimi> "intimamente" > interiormente, internamente, in profondità, nel profondo, nell'animo, nell'intimo, dentro, intrinsecamente.
Quindi il gioco di parole e' sul fatto che sia un prodotto che usi per l'intimo e anche un prodotto che adori.
- Io credo che togliere la buccia dalla frutta derivi dalla paura dei pesticidi, che spesso contaminano la frutta non biologica. Personalmente la mangio con la buccia, perché non ho mai imparato a sbucciarla bene xD e perché e' la parte con più vitamine!
- camminare mentre si mangia o non stare in una posizione corretta (per esempio mangiare da sdraiati sul divano) non e' salutare!
E come hai detto anche tu all'inizio del video, gli italiani sono fissati con la salute xD

I am Italian and I live in the UK, where I'm a student at the architecture university of Cardiff!
There are plenty of cultural things I honestly do not understand about the UK, even after 4 years living here.
- Number one has to be the FOOD. In Italy we do not refer to food generically like they do here, we almost never talk about 'cibo' as in, hey guys let's have some cibo!? I mean, here they do not seem to be specific about any type of food, when they're hungry they just need FOOD, the most generically way possible. Whether it is a horrible frozen pizza or a disgusting TESCO ready-meal, fish and chips, a burger, ice cream, some random plate of pasta with zero salt in it, it is always just FOOD, and I honestly find it frustrating. I do believe that it is sort of connected to the quality of their meals because it seems like they do not take it seriously at all, and, as a cuisine-freak Italian, I do find it annoying.
- Number two: British people have a very cold way of interacting with each-other and they never, ever, ever, raise their voice or get too loud during the day. At night, though, by 8pm they are drunk, and by drunk I mean shit-faced, and that's when they start screaming and swearing at each other and acting crazy as if they needed to release all of their compressed frustrations accumulated during the rest of the day. I don't think this is a healthy way to have fun, it's like their identities are split and they're either too controlled or too over the top.
-Number three: British people seem not to care at all about the hygiene and tidiness of their homes. I mean, at least from personal experience I feel like most of them are super dirty inside their homes. They have these horrible carpets that are basically receptacles of bacteria and all sorts of dirt. It is practically impossible to clean the carpets thoroughly and get the dust out of their houses. They are super messy and leave their cups of tea all around the living room and the rest of the house (these eventually start getting mouldy and disgusting). Their fridges are always crammed and dirty and I can only let you imagine the state of their beds. They are super dirty and the sheets are all creasy as if they haven't washed them in months. Plus they bring all sorts of stuff to their bedrooms and some of them even put their shoes under the duvet.
- Number four: they have a million cafeterias and a million coffee types, but none of them will ever be as good as a genuine Italian espresso (caffè)! I mean flat-white, lattes, chai lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, mochas, americanos, and I could go on and on and on... I don't really think any of these is as good as a simple Italian caffè!

I agree. I live in Uk as well and I still don't get how they can leave mugs ang glasses with wine or drinks lingering around everywhere. can't forget the first time I saw glasses on the floor (carpet!). I find it disgusting but it seems like it's habit. I also still can't get used at how many times in a day they have this cup of tea that most of the times at work ends up cold and left somewhere till next time. being clean freaks can't stand drinking in their same mugs that have stains on them (in fact I have my own). I still find hard not to comment on how lightly they dress up on winter. Never mind colpo d'aria. Winter time you see girls dressed up as if it was summer without coats or thights. crazy really. An other thing I will probably never get used to is the way they easily burp (girls too) even at work. That is really rude but does not seem to be a big deal.

The eating at the table is a very European thing, not only Italian. It's a point in the day one communicates with other family members without the distraction of TV, Computers or phone's.
The draft thing is also a very European thing, not just Italian because, one's, in the medieval times, draft could exactly cause a cold (still can) but back then it was potentially fatal, because it could lead to more serious illnesses like pneumonia.
The kissing and handshake thing,...again, not just an Italian but a very European thing, although the rules differ from European country to country and sometimes even region to region in those countries, it's definitely an European thing.
Tbh, the eating at the table thing is important anywhere except North America, pretty much lol

I know it can be weird, but I never eat on the go, I did it once and I felt sooooo uncomfortable. I have to sit down at least! oh and you forgot to mention: grandmas say also that you can get a colpo d'aria if you don't blow-dry your hair. Elisa gherpelli in realtà, nei convenevoli sociali, se ci si dissocia, la seconda volta si viene esclusi. Nel senso che nessuno più si avvicinerebbe per baciarti, se la volta prima hai scansato il viso. Solitamente nelle relazioni sociali si riceve, più o meno, ciò che si da (banalizzo l'esempio citando i regali...). Non dare più baci e non ne riceverai a tua volta.
Questa è la mia opinione ed è opinabilissma!
PS sono tra quelli a cui piace il saluto "fisico", parlo del tempo con gli sconosciuti e mi piace tutto ciò che possa creare ponti e non trincee. E sono anche considerato "orso" caratterialmente.
Angelo Tresca so che se non vuoi quel tipo di saluto puoi benissimo evitarlo, ma molte volte risulta scortese, specialmente con parenti vari, scostare il volto.
Di solito si fa con parenti o amici stretti non con gli sconosciuti! Diciamo che vieni considerato "molto espansivo" a farlo con una persona appena conosciuta... Almeno qui a Torino. Inoltre di solito si bancian le donne e tra uomini ci si stringe la mano sempre che non siano parenti.
Eh, in Sicilia è molto diverso purtroppo. Non ci sono distinzioni tra donne e uomini e può capitare di "baciare" anche una persona conosciuta la stessa sera
The kiss on the cheek is even weirder because in Italy (or, at least, Milan) they kiss the left cheek first... I don't know why, but for me it kissing the right cheek first seems more correct. Can't tell you how many times I've almost kissed a stranger on the lips, after going for the wrong cheek.

As an Italian child growing up in South Africa, we were taught it was bad manners to eat on the street. We also peel the fruit because pesticides are mainly on the skin of fruits and vegetables, so personally, that is why I peel them. I know an opera singer who wears a scarf very often to keep his neck warm, as he said it is better for the throat muscles. :)
Vivella so cool. I was born and grew up in S. Africa and 3.5 years ago I moved to Italian and just married an italian. I always ate the skin on fruit growing up but here in S Italy it's weird to eat it but I do.

I think that eating at the table is just a matter of digestion. Moreover, it seems that consuming meals at the table, really helps to eat your fill and to avoid over eating.

I've gotten into kpop so sometimes I see videos where they talk about things there. Apparently in Korea & some other Asian places they don't eat on the street or public transportation because of trying to keep things clean. Public trash cans were decided to lead to too much trash still getting knocked out of the bins or blown around by wind, & food scraps in the open can draw bugs or stray animals. Also they have gotten a recycling system in place for maximum efficiency. So anything that's going to have trash like a wrapper, napkin, etc they are in the habit of eating at home or the convenience store & then separating their trash then. If they picnic in the park they have to carry their trash to rare public trash bins or all the way home or whatever their destination after. Also, since the city sidewalks & public transportation are so busy, it's considered rude to be walking around with something that could end up on someone else if you bump into each other. So it's not considered strictly forbidden, it's more like a strongly enforced guideline to show your respect for others & the system. A stroll in a big open park with an ice cream cone is ok, but walking around on a busy sidewalk with your burger that's going to drop pieces of lettuce or drip sauce for someone else to step in or eating that crumbly cereal bar on the bus is frowned on.

About the kiss-kiss and handshake, I can only say that here in France it is much more strict that in Italy. I have to cheek-kiss every woman and handshake every man every time I go to work! And I work on shifts in a French airport, so I also have to remember who just started his/her shift, and who I already kissed or handshaked, every day!

In the Italian Culture eating at the table and share food is important because it's not just about "nourish yourself" but it's about create connections with others, share food and communicate having respect for the people you are eating with. If you eat with your boyfriend in front of the television you can communicate with him, but you don't look at his eyes, you are more concentrated on watching and speaking about the show than in improve your relationship. Hope you understand what I mean, sorry for my english!
This is why Italians think Americans are rude, It's not a game it's called respect.
