  • I take a quick and dirty look at what you need to know about the CPKC merger, which we likely will have a final decision on in a few weeks.

    The STB has called a press conference for today, 3/15/23, at 11 AM eastern to announce their decision. It is being reported by CBS News among others that the merger has - as expected - been approved.

    I live near CP's Kansas City sub aka Soo Line. This is all single track south to Knoche Yard in KC with a single track bridge over the Missouri River. Not unlike the BNSF Southern Transcon single track bridge, again over the Missouri River.
    I corrected myself above, i.e. CP not KCS. In Chillicothe.

      I live between Siloam Springs and Westville. I grew up in westville a half a block away from the KCS main. it is single track from Siloam to Watts where a fairly new yard has been built. with that and the meet at Stilwell, and the meet at Siloam, the single track is going to be very busy if the merger goes trough. lol

    I’ll be filming 2816 when it runs it’s excursion tour through south Texas on the brownie sub. I’ll literally cry when the gates go down and it crosses and exits Bloomington yard, I grew up 30 minutes south on the coast and I’d quite literally pray as a kid to get stuck by a train. When I was little there were still plenty of bloody noses, cascade and warbonnetts, UP dash 9’s I remember when the flag units first popped up, the only caboose I ever saw in service was 97/98 only once ever.

      I’d love to see the Soo and Grand Trunk Western both come back but unfortunately it’s probably a pipe dream at this point. I’d love to see a Soo Line heritage paint job on one of their GP20C-ECOs.
      Although with the Soo still existing on paper, not sure you can really throw back to something that still technically exists.

    I think the only fair thing is for it to all be Kansas City Southern. This name will make the least sense and will require both KCS de Mexico and KCS du Canada (just to give the Quebecois a little treat) to exist in their respective countries. Everything gets the KCS livery, and all locomotives get a GO CHIEFS decal if they end up in the Super Bowl again.

      Yes, the Chicago Sub traffic increases would carry over. 4 new and daily intermodal/auto trains in each direction by year 3. 1 each way would be added in the 1st year after the merger, 1 more in the 2nd, and then 2 in the 3rd.

    CP 140-141 later 130-131 was replaced by 230-231. Now the merger approval should happen by March 7th I heard

    • @northeasternilrailfan6421
      @northeasternilrailfan6421  Před rokem

      Correct. From what I heard it was because it was running more often as a manifest anyway so they finally just started calling it one. Even for a while Bensenville didn’t know what to call it, the Carmen would usually say something like “130 or 230, whichever one it is today”

  • @cpttankerjoe
    @cpttankerjoe Před rokem

    I approve of the merger because it would finally allow CP to compete in the US with CN. CN had tracks going into the deep southern US. CP goes just a little further south than Chicago. So a KCS/CN merger would essentially eliminate any sort of CP competition in the mainland US

  • @robertgawel4523
    @robertgawel4523 Před rokem +2

    Fact. The KCS signs down south at their building have CP under it all ready. I am a CP/Soo line employee. Fact, CP will be on everything. The trains, Truck, everything. I went through the merger back in 91. Two years we were calling are self CP Heavy Haul. Do to embargo thing. Fact is the like playing the coconut game. The were you take something (peace of track meachery) rent to to one part of the company (Soo Line), and the you lease it (CP) back to.(Soo Line). And take the right off. That how you make the bigh bucks. Besides screwing over the workers an customers. Be side, CP stand for Canada Partner which is a stockholder company. CP own Soo Line bake in the days if you google it. Cp own Soo line when it ran from Fond DU Lac south. Most of the stockholders were from the UK. CP part of CP limited stockholders. With a hotel in Texas, power company and some other stuff I got 1/10 employee stockholders share of that I get check for .89 for a year.
