    The 'P' plate is for provisional licence holders, when first learning to drive you start with 'L' plate is for learner drivers; after passing your driving test you have to have a 'P' licence for three years, then after that you obtain your full licence. If you are stupid, and lose your licence, you have to go onto 'P' for twelve months after your disqualification period is over.

    My time in sydney taught me to be very wary af the silver service taxis, if any vehicle was going to do an unannounced 90 degree change in trajectory in peak hour traffic, it was one of those bastards.

    P = provisional licence, lots of restrictions. After you learn to drive "L" plate, you then graduate to a P plate licence. There are two levels of P plater. RED "P"s and GREEN "P"s. So the order is ... L plate, Red P plate, Green P plate. Then you get a full licence. We have a "demerit system" on all licence holders. 12 points in total. Get a fine of any kind you lose some points. If you lose all 12 points then you lose your licence. P platers are restricted on speed, the type/size of vehicles they can drive, no alcohol or drugs at any time while driving, I even think there's a limit to the number of people in the car that a P plater can take. The reason for all of this is to try to stop them from KILLING themselves and each other. Teenage Boys are the targets and the main reason for the P plate system.

      It's actually a max of 13 points in the last 3 years. Demerit points older than 3 years are removed from your record.

    "P" is for provisional licence. Next step after learners permit. Road rule compliance is a bit stricter for novice drivers.

  • @Merrid67play
    @Merrid67play Před 11 měsíci +4

    P-platers in this context means provisional licence, ie you're considered a novice driver who at least knows the mechanics of driving as well as the road rules. If you lose your licence for some reason you may get a probationary licence after your suspension period.
    Basically, p plates are displayed so everyone else on the road knows that you're inexperienced and likely to make bad judgement calls when driving, so we can all give you a wide berth😉

    There is a system in Australia to obtain your license. You have to display plates on front and back of your car. Can get magnetic ones so they stay on your car or place them between car and number plate. So we know if you are a learner or on your provisional license. First up we have L plates. They have to do 100 hrs of driving with a supervisor that has the full open license for more than a year. Then have the Red P plates. Have to have that for a year to go for your Green P plates and pass another test. Each state is different and have slightly different requirements to pass and restrictions to drive ect… but still people just drive like they want to drive once they get their license.

  • @LikkieAU
    @LikkieAU Před 11 měsíci +3

    It's slightly different in each state but generally speaking, when you first apply for your driver licence you have to pass a knowledge test to prove you know the road rules. You then get a learners permit. You can only drive whilst supervised by a licenced driver and you have to put a sign on your car with a large L. We call this an "L Plate". This is being "on your Ls".
    Once you have done enough hours of supervised driving you take a driving test. If you pass you get your provisional license.
    You can now drive unsupervised, and you have to display a red P on your car. There are special limits on speed, number of passengers and hours that you are allowed to drive. This is what we call being "on your Ps". You are a P Plater.
    After a year of good behaviour, you graduate to a green P with fewer restrictions for up to 2 years. Still a P Plater but cockier.
    If you make it through, you graduate to a full licence.

    I've been driving for over 20 years in Australia and obviously been alive and watched my parents and others drive before me and have only observed road rage once or twice in my life involving other drivers...never me or my family.
    It happens but it's not that prevalent.

    Yes P Plates/Plater is real. Stands for provisional. So it's a licence with some restrictions. Can't remember if it's 1 or 2 years before you move to an open licence.

    The P actually stands for "probationary" and pretty much when you first get your drivers license you're on this "probationary" period for a few years with a few restrictions which vary from state to state. The plate is to warn other drivers that you're a new driver.

    • @Merrid67play
      @Merrid67play Před 11 měsíci +1

      It's provisional. A probationary licence is what you get after a period of suspension, and I don't think you have to display plates on that.

    When we go for our license? We need to pass a computer knowledge test? Then we get a learners license where we need to place an L. Plate front and back of our car and fill in a log book until we log up 200 hours? We then go for our driving test? Then when we pass that? We then get a provisional driver’s licence? Then we need to place an P. Plate front and back of our car for 12 months and then we need to pass an eye test? Then we need to place an green P-plate front and back of our vehicle? Then after 12 months we can then get our license. I got my license back in 1998? Back then you go for computer knowledge test and pass then we get a learners license and place L-plate front and back of vehicle for 12 months without logbook? Then I went for my driving test and pass then I got my provisional license then I had to place an P-plate front and back of vehicle? Red P-plate by the way and then after 12 months then I went for eye test and received my driving licence 🪪? Yes! Phezz, if people don’t drive safely, they will probably make it even harder and more pain in the arse to get a license?
