  • Bob goes thru the different variations and permutations of Jonsered and Husqvarna 70cc saws. Focus is on the Jonsered 625, 630, and 670 along with Husqvarna's 61, 161, 266, 268, and 272xp series, These were the bread and butter of the Jonsered & Husqvarna saws during the late 1970's thru the 1990's

    Just found and been given a white top 61 by way of clearing out a garage at my mum's. Was my stepdads. Been sat around for years but after watching a few vids I think I'm going to spend some cash on getting it going properly as after cleaning it up seems like it's in not bad nick. Cheers for the vid.

    So fun to watch, and it's so fun watching two friends talk and share with one another and spend the whole day having fun with chainsaws it's an awesome hobby tbh. My dad has a loft full of old saws and there's a good few old husqvarnas up there I took one down the other day it was a 51 with a white top. I'm only 18 and have been using chainsaws since I was 14 and I'm in love with them, someday I'll fix all the chainsaws in the loft , my dad says there golddust but he never fixes any of them all's he wants is a saw that he can use to get by, the only time he goes up to the lift is when he's stuck for a saw or when someone wants a saw fixed he might use some parts, but at the Moment I'm using a stihl ms 290 farm boss and my dad uses a husqvarna 365 special.

    When they were new the 670 was hands down the most powerful. it was the same motor as the 268 but without the Jet inside that made it so you could completely close the high throttle screw and it still wouldn't rev over 12000. I put a 266 carb on the only one I ever had and it was a screamer. The 61/161 was the most gutless of the bunch. I used them for training. The 630 had the same cylinder and piston as the old 162. I ran saws for a living for 27 years and have owned all of those saws except for the 625. I still have my 266 bottom with a 670 cylinder carb and piston I ported and used a 33" bar to falls snags on the Juan Defuca Trail on Vancouver Island. Thanks for the trip down memory lane,

      @afleetcommand  Před 8 lety +1

      +fuggetabodit Spike60 reminds me of that over and over as he has a perfect 670 west coast that will stomp any 272 (stock) although my old tweaked 272 is more saw. Also the 272 was a way to extend the product life in the face of Stihl's 038/044/046. That thinner wall thickness than the 268...you can argue that the 272 is less durable as well. Love those old Jonsereds though.

    Most comprehensive break down of the super 260 I’ve been able to find. I have my gramp’s 260 Super 2. Will a 266 Husq work or will I need an impulse line added? Trying to get things going again. It’s a bad gas saw needing a new jug/piston

      Those run surprisingly well but could take them either to a 670 or 272 depending on how clever you are in working around the intake & carb differences

    I also recently got a Husqvarna 140 rancher thats part 340 rancher. It needs some antivibration grommets and I think thats it. I have three pullstarters and a few clutchs and drums extra and 2 extra top covers. Any thoughts on if I should fix it and put in another 30-70 bucks or just part it out slowly or fix it to resell. I don't need it to use cause I have about a dozen others not mentioned. I also have a Husqvarna 45 that is 20 dollars away from complete now. Will the 272xp top end 52mm fit my 266se also. Many of mine are frankensaws or scrambled egg you could say but work fine and no one would know without being told.

    What a great video, thank you! Do you know where I can purchase the larger air cleaner on the 670 Jonered? I have two of them I still run and would like to upgrade to a larger filter. Do you know what make model air cleaner the large round one is with the chrome top? Also does it need a special manifold, who makes these manifolds if so? Kind Regards and keep the wonderful videos coming!

    can a new style 61 top cover fit on the old style 61 that has the slits over the exhaust I'm missing the air filter on my old 61 and the new air filter wont fit under the top cover

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 4 lety

      The dividing line for success and failure is the case/ignition system the cover is designed for. If it's from the "two coil" older ignition it's not going to fit on the newer "one coil" ignition & visa-versa. Just that simple.

  • @randymagnum143
    @randymagnum143 Před 5 lety

    In 1997, the dealer had already had success selling 371's, and had 2 leftover 272's he donated to the volunteer fire dept., and I believe they raffled them off. I know we had no intention of buying a saw without the "air injection" at that time. Too bad I didnt pick one up, thinking back.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 7 lety

      eBay? Not sure if they are still available from a dealer. I usually camp out on eBay or post a want add in the forums like forestryforum.com & arboristsite.com for parts that are either rare of NLA from standard sales channels.

  • @dsadiesel
    @dsadiesel Před 6 lety

    Would a 162 top cover fit on and old style 61?

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 6 lety

      The 162se/sg from the mid 1970's? Think so, if when you say "the old style 61" you mean the ones with the two coil ignition system. Also the early "white cover" ones from the 1970's had a shorter cylinder therefore the covers were a little shorter as well. Mufflers shorter too.

Well i live close to the coral pink sand dunes and we cut fier wood here and the wind blows the sand in to the bark of the juniper ceader trees so i was just wondering if any one may know the best saw chain for sandy conditions? Im going to post this question on a few videos in hopes that some one will have an awnser.

      +Gary Carman Skip tooth, it doesn't take as long to sharpen, chipper chain, or semi chisel doesn't damage as much when you hit dirt sand or rock.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  Před 10 lety +1

      Try eBay. Usually the best place to find older parts. Also if you post a request on places like "arboristsite.com" you should find one. Most of mine & bob's are "collector" saws and we try to keep the parts vs. sell them. Especially with saws like Jonsered 670's, 920-930's, 2094's etc. I have ONE 670 and also always checking eBay for bits & pieces. I'll "bump" this post from time to time.... If someone can help please feel free to use this place to communicate!
