Fun, somewhat relevant trivia: there were some viking runes that nobody could decipher for the longest time, and had all kinds of theories surrounding them, only for it to basically be a shitpost like "Halfdan wrote this." The vikings did this all the time apparently.
That is both interesting and funny. Kudos!
I think there's an inscription like this in Hagia Sophia too
Halfdan wrote that in Hagia Sophia. Madlad.
Imagining historians and archeologists unknowingly invest serious time and resources to decifer what is essentially an ancient shitpost is immeasurably funny to me

It is ironic that, while on a monument, all these memes are kinda shit... so they fucking buried them.
Okay, so I took a chance to go see the infamous site of where the stone was buried. Had it all planned out in my head that I would track down the site with several gallons of vinegar and a wicked smile on my face.
Here's the thing.
The burial site is somewhere hidden in miles and miles of desloate wasteland.
It's been 3 years since this thing was buried so the dirt has settled.
I just stood there for a while, flabbergasted at the ridiculous thought that I had the ability to find this stupid thing.
Then I realized why people wanted to trash this stone to begin with. There's nothing here. This stupid rock is an empty legacy. Breaking it actually gives the stone meaning, because finding it and leaving a mark is something worth talking about. But instead, it's going to rot away never to be seen again. Ironically, this thing is more likely to be found by construction workers and blown to bits without ever leaving a footnote in history to its conclusion.
Take it from someone who took a few hours of their life to search for this worthless piece of rock, don't waste your time.
Finally one 4Chan user went outside. There might be hope after all.
Even if it is undug years or decades later instead of lost to the sands of time, built on top of, or destroyed by some other random event it’s not going to mean anything.
They made it out of limestone, which already degrades easily and and then they literally buried it in sand, hell it’s probably ALREADY unreadable if not fractured in pieces. Even if somebody was able to go through the immense amount of trouble to find it in the literal middle of nowhere, even if they could actually spend the ridiculous amount of time and money to dig it up without breaking it further it doesn’t mean anything. It’s not going to be old enough or in good enough condition to be worth anything to anyone (either monetarily or as a history lesson), 9gag is already a dead website and this was just a cheap PR stunt to try to prevent it.
There are two words in “time capsule” and this stone won’t stand the test of time, and it isn’t really a “capsule” of anything. This video is probably the most traction this stone has gotten and will ever get. They would have been far better actually putting the stone somewhere (like in their offices or in an art gallery) instead, at least then it would have been as interesting as Shia’s flag stunt!

Random fact, vinegar in Spain is quite cheap actually.
All we need is a gang of taco anons, a pickup truck, some shovels and some strong acid or vinegar and we're set
Super fucking cheap compared to other countries actually
Sir. Fuckles that weird russian name above me is right. we eat paellas
Just get a bunch of DOGS ... and teach them to pee on the spot.
Everything is quite cheap in Andalucia ;)
This would’ve actually been really fun if they promised to do one every nine years with updated memes.
Everyone at 9gag:
Ohh yeah we are making history, we are gonna represent our times to future generations.
4chan:
Imagine people from 10,000 years in the future trying to figure out what the world was based solely on that stone...
Someone needs to get rid of it.
People from 10,000 years in the future: There's gotta be a message hidden somewhere.
For fuck sake, install 9 gag, now, and see for yourself. We are not even close to normies. When the time came we kicked them out. When reddit got filled with normies they couldnt have done nothing! We are superior! Though I was shadowbanned multiple times in 9gag for no reason including on my pro account. I laughed the best on 9gag in my whole life. Even if they stole my money the laughs I had do not compare.

I think the most ironic thing at this point is that I'm pretty sure that rock is actually destroyed now due to the passage of time.
You know, with doge and rage comics having a comeback in meme culture, I think the memes on the rock will be relevant again once it is dug up.
It was all fun and games until he said “4chan looked on with disgust”
Only because we get tired of people both stealing memes from that site but also people from reddit/9gag/whatever spamming their shit memes all over the site as well, completely pozzing everything up. Said memes tend to be the most creatively bankrupt "jokes" as well.

I'm pretty sure 4chan could find the cure for cancer if they put their collective heads together.
Chance Gibson maybe, they are logical and very thoughtful when something interests them. At least a few very intelligent and educated people on there, lots of autism too. But why would they want to help the general public, who hate them for being different, the sub-human sjws and femanists who want to take everything away from them. Personally I would rather releace anthrax on California than help humanity.

Imagine being an archeologist and only finding pepe the frog carved on a stone having no clue what it is
As an archaeologist I can say it wouldn't be the strangest thing we've ever dug up
@Communist Meme There was one civilization which was discovered that had a number of nodules on the walls of one of their settlements. The current interpretation is that it's a wall of breasts designed to honour a fertility goddess. If Pepe was dug up 5000 years from now it'd be assumed to be some sort of ritual iconography of a frog worshipping culture
@Brylle Cruz Basically yeah, this'd be one case where the interpretation would be pretty close to the mark
So that's why 4chan are so interested to smash it... It's a misrepresentation of their deity!
Obviously it's a fertility deity
4chan: let’s use complicated math to triangulate the bushes around this undisclosed location and chart out the stars to find out exactly where this flag is
