- Here is an in-depth piano tutorial on "how to" learn, practice, and play the Fantaisie-Impromptu Op.66 in C Sharp Minor by Frédéric Chopin.
In this video, I share my knowledge on how to perform this piece effectively in a story-telling way.
I am showing how to practice with hands separately, which is the key to learning it quickly and stably.
I also explain how to practice the polyrhythm (3 vs. 4) between the right and the left hand, which can be challenging, especially at the beginning stage. After that, we will work on pedaling, timing, rubato, and finally, I will put everything together.
Hopefully, it will help you to get results quickly.
Good luck!

Bravo Maestro! As a child I was also intimidated by the rhythm. Thank you for breaking it down with such practical and simple understanding! You a truly a fine "maestro!"
Happy to help!
Many thanks 🙏
A magnificent, expert tutor, I believe you have finally helped me master 4 against 3 rhythm in Fantasie Impromptu very simply and slowly, but I am sure I will be able to quicken up the pace, and master the beautiful subtleties in the phrasing of this piece .... thank you so much ❤😊👍🙏
As a child? Who plays this as a child, except yuga wang?
Thank you so much. I'm 77, began playing just a few years ago, have had 4 years of lessons. At my age, I can't wait.... I've been learning and playing through The Well Tempered Clavier I and you've peaked my interest! I'll pull this off the shelf tomorrow and will begin to make a go of it. I love the polyrhythms! Again, thank you for inspiring me to dip into Chopin!
+Vince Luschas Happy to hear you found my content inspiring! I wish you lots of joy in playing Chopin. My next video will be on Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in C minor from WTC 1. Maybe it could be interesting for you? Good luck and all the best!
@@Antune Thank you! I'm looking forward to learning about playing the Prelude & Fugue from you! Very much so!
I cant believe I only just now found this channel. I played piano as a teenager for about 3 years and was so passionate about it. I was beginning to play Chopin around this time. Once I started college, I never really played again. There were times I wanted to, but it felt like such a monumental (and intimidating) task to get back to where I was, so I just never bothered. Plus life gets busy as an adult. Now in my 40s, I want to try. I have forgotten pretty much everything I used to play, but Chopin and Schubert were my favorites. I used to listen to them on my cd player (remember those? Lol) all day and dream of playing like the masters of the craft. The way you break down each measure makes it feel a lot less intimidating. Thank you. I will be watching this channel closely and giving this piece a try. Slowly of course lol.
Absolutely amazing, spectacular video!!! In my 35 years of playing this piece, I have never seen an education video about this piece like this! Thank you!!!
After watching it 5 times.. I can say that's the only true tutorial I've found of impromptu. This video just gave me the extra boost to try again with clear finger positions and hands separatly. That's very very good.
This video feels like paid content.
Thank you again
not only do u teach it really well, i genuinely think this is the best interpretation ive heard, even better than arthur rubinsteins… wow you are good!!!
Dear Antune, this is an unbelievable tutorial with so many extremely important information. This will not only enhance the playability of this particular tune rather it will make any one a complete piano player to handle any other challenging composition. I don't think we would get this tutorial even from one to one lesson from the local teacher/school. May God bless you 🙏🙏🙏.
Thank you for the generous comment.
I am happy to hear my video is helpful!
@@Antune It was truly helpful sir. My children are learning piano from CZcams and other online sources. I consider your channel is a blessings for my children. May almighty grant you long, healthy and happy life.

These videos are the best! A tutorial on the revolutionary etude from Chopin would be cool!
thank you for helping to explain how to understand the polyrhythm and dynamics. You play beautifully.
yes, those polyrhythms tend to be quite tricky, I love to play with them though
I have just recently started working on this piece and discovered this tutorial today. Your careful explanations are going to help me tremendously! Thank you!

This is a piece I have “played “
But struggeled with.
Your advices are so instructive and helpful.
Thank you for sharing your expertise
i started it yesterday and believe it or not i cut it the same part as you to approach the 3 against 4 . Happy i found your video today, i was on the right approach here. Works like a charm
Perfect tutorial. Thanks a lot!
I nearly cried after watching your video.
I tried to learn this piece for years when I was 14 and could only play the easier middle part but could never figure out how to get the left and right hand to play succinctly for the beginning and end parts. I'm nearly 40 now and used your technique starting at 6:28 to separate those beats out and repeat them and I was actually able to play through the first page of the song after practicing for the day, it blew my mind. My god, it was a revelation, that was my missing link after all these years.
Just wanted to thank you for making this tutorial video. I can't believe I'll actually be able to learn this entire piece, now.
I am happy to hear the video was helpful. All the best!
Great tutorial!!!! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much!
Wow , this is great ! Thank you so much ! I am working my way through every youtube video on this piece -it is amazing how everyone teaches something different but they all complement each other .It is going to take me a while to play at the correct speed but it is great fun trying ......
Hey how's the practice going?
@@mk4630 Very well thanks though I am still not up to top speed .
BRAVOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! MEISTRO... Bless you for this masterful explanation. And i don't even play piano, but i adore this piece. I am certain that i could nver play this piece if i practiced for the rest of my life. But your explanation, allows me to dream that one day i could . I have gotten to the point that i rarely listen to anything but Chopin. I am convinced that no composer in the history of music is in his league. The amount of beauty in everything he wrote to me surpasses the Heiden's and Brookners of the world. SO often I hear symphonys on the radio in my car thinking at times there is nothing to hear though i know music is playing. But with Chopin you are taken on a journey where you are held captive to sounds which are irresistible to deny a melody which moves your sould from the start to the finish without a moment not carried by further anticipation. How could one know that who has no idea where middle C is? Well that is the same answer given by an accountant who is overwhelmed by a Van Gogh he's standing in front of intoxicated by colors has never seen, yet incapable of naming the colors on a wheel. The secret to artistic appreciation of brilliance is the complete lack of preparation of such a member of an audience, in order to love something one has no concept of. That of course is part of the magic I am mesmerized by. Thank you again for the video.. sorry for the long post
Get deep into Rachmaninov and then tell me, after a year, if you still think Chopin is the greatest
This is the best explanation for fantasie I’ve came across so far thanks!
Glad to hear you've enjoyed the video. Thanks!

Bravo Maestro!

Glad to hear, many thanks!
i love this music!!!!
Excelente!
Thank you for such an interesting and informative tutorial. I returned to piano lessons during Covid lockdown at age 58 after a 40 year break, and now in my 60's I am enjoying lessons more than ever, despite a lot of stiffness in my fingers. Fantasie Impromptu may be beyond my physical capability (I am just about coping with Debussy's two Arabesques), but I might try to attempt learning it now. Your explanation and demonstration of the polyrhythm is wonderful. I have never achieved playing three against four, but I feel it might be possible now.
I am happy to hear you liked the lesson! I hope you enjoy watching my videos and have fun playing piano. All the best!
I'm learning this piece atm. Thanks for your advice! I play piano for fun and this wil be my next piece to play in public :).

Wonderful video 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Genial!
My piano teacher keeps judging my fantasie impromptu by calling it muddy, bad, rusty, and more. But this video really changed my playing. My piano teacher was really surprised. Thank you so much for making this video for everyone, it helped so many people out there.
That's very nice to hear! Thank you.
Good luck with your practicing sessions!
Did your teacher tried to give you some kind of an input what to adjust? I find it disappointing to have a teacher yet to improve your performing via YT explanation...
Gracias, es un tutorías excelente.
¡Muchos gracias!
