I just got a vevor 8x14 real cheap I think it was an Amazon return. it’s my first lathe and I like to tinker so I’m gonna watch all your videos on it a few times and get this is good working order. I appreciate the time you put into these videos.

I had decided this lathe is not worth making a kit simply because most who buy it are entry level and not likely to pull the spindle to do the required key way refit. However there are many who have asked, so soon after the video (around October) I will release a kit for this lathe. The belt, drive pulleys and key are here now. So are the black box housings.
Great video! I’ve wanted to get a lathe to learn on, don’t want to spend too much but don’t want a cheap piece of junk. A lot of what your doing seems like things I could do but very interested in part 2 and the final verdict.
Even though I will lose sales, the final verdict will be: Do not buy this brand mini lathe. However, by the time you get any brand mini lathe working good, you will be quite skilled and know exactly what you want in a real lathe. The next video is in adit and should post in a few days. It's very long and may have to be split into 2 or even 3 parts.
I bought mine from HF and it’s been pretty good. Now updating to the longer bed. But this one is amazingly screwed. And the reviews I’ve read on vector I’m not surprised.
You haven't seen nothing until you watch part 2. The reality is do not buy this Vevor lathe. Also realize this was not sold as a Vevor, that is what came in the box. Send it back immediately! It's so bad that I may not even develop a kit for it. This is because there is no fix without lots of machine work. Machine work that most beginners will not be able to accomplish.
These mini lathes are toys and as such are a lot of fun. I've had mine for many years and made lots of fun projects. Anybody that thinks they can get a precision machine tool for this kind of money is either very out of touch or stupid. Getting it unboxed and cleaned up takes hours.Everything needs to be taken apart, degunked and deburred before even thinking of using it. I like restoring old tools and the process of getting one of these things usable is a lot like restoring an antique. Few hobbies are cost effective you just learn and have fun. If you want a precision commercial machine tool buy one. Bank loans are available.
Yeah was thinking of getting such a mini lathe but thanks to CZcams I will not buy one. Not worth the money when you have to rebuild a new tool. This lathes are coming from the same manufacture. They paint it in other colors and the body with the speed dial is different but the lathe has always the same body.
Thank you for this consideration. The lead screw does not appear to be bent. It is however misaligned. This is realized in the next video still in edit where I replace the motor. When the motor is replaced the cut gets much smoother. I have several customers who commented that their rough cuts were much smother after they did the motor upgrade. As for the gears. that is also addressed in the next video.
The motor whining could just be the controller PWM being too low, I'd test it with a better controller and see if it's still noisy, might save you some money
I can tell you firsthand about 3. My first was a Central Machinery (Harbor Freight) 9x20 (no longer available, but the same machine is sold by Grizzly Industrial as a G4000 9x19 $1,195.), and it’s a good machine except for the compound mount. Little Machine Shop sells a replacement for that part that’s massively more rigid, and if you’re not familiar with LMS, you need to be if you’re getting into mini machine tools! Second was a Harbor Freight 7x12 mini lathe (not sold in stores, online only. Bigger than the store model that they sell as a 7x10 - but it’s actually only 7x8!!!). This lathe is manufactured by Sieg, arguably the best producer of mini mills and lathes. This machine has been a good one, and only required minimal adjustments and cleaning. The final one is a Grizzly G0765 7x14. This lathe looked as though it was going to be top of the line. It’s not made by Sieg (Sieg lathes can be identified by an “H” shaped saddle), and without going into detail, I’ve been disappointed with it, and went back to the Harbor Freight lathe as my go to. The Grizzly is up for sale. LMS sells Sieg machines and also Sieg manufactured mills and lathes that are built to LMS’s specifications. Those machines, branded “HiTorque”, are the top of the line products, but priced accordingly! Also be aware that LMS sells all the parts for Harbor Freight machines even though parts from HF are mostly unavailable.

I find Harbor freight, Clutch and Grizzly are considerably better than the discounted machines found on eBay and Amazon. Buying direct from Vevor is much worse because at least eBay and amazon will force a refund in the first 30 days. There are much better machines available. Try www.toolots.com look at Weiss. Consider precision Mathews as well. www.precisionmatthews.com/ Buy something better than the lowest priced. study specs, go look at videos.

This is a typical example of someone who buys a cheap as lathe and then expect it to perform like a Rolls Royce......get real, it's a fix me upper.......the amount of time you will spend getting it to a standard that is reasonable will double the price of the lathe if the work was done by the manufacturer.......there are lathes double the price if that be the case........as a rule of thumb I would not hesitate to say that in this size lathe a decent lathe would start out at 3 grand........but that would take all of the fun out of stripping this model down and rebuilding it to your own satisfaction with mods along the way too..

Yes! I agree, don't buy a mini lathe. Save your money and buy a much better one. The mini lathes are junk. I spend more money and time adjusting and fixing mine than I do making projects.
Plus for the insight, MINUS for the evaluation. "Pretty good" has no place in a video about Vevor lathes. It's not "pretty good" even for the money it goes by.
More wrong with it than right with it. A person just getting into machining has neither the knowledge nor the tooling to fix it. There is a hugel opportunity for someone to make a decent first lathe and build a business selling it. This is just sad.

I bought the HF 7x12 which is only available online, and it’s a great machine! You can’t beat a Sieg built machine!

The howling from the gears in addition to the ridge you are getting in your cuts tells me that your lead screw is bent.

Trying to learn with this lathe will be difficult. Best return it and buy a better lathe.

How long did it take to receive it once you ordered it?

Absolutely. Also any 15A standard circuit breaker. Do not plug it into a GFCI without replacing the GFCI with a hospital grade GFCI,
