Wait I get how he changed his dialect so that Fry and Leela wouldn't recognize his voice in theory (and it inexplicably worked), but how come the robot mafia didn't recognize bender's normal dialect from the third crew member he was beating up. Bender talked to the mob like his normal self when he joined them.
Joe DiMaggio, the voice actor who does Bender, also does a king in the Netflix show Disenchantment. The king doesn't refer to people as 'old bean,' but while his name is 'King Zog,' his daughter's name is 'Bean.'
Thank you SO MUCH for this upload! I'm so happy I could see this in its original version, I'd always wondered if the French version ("french?!") was truthful to the original fantastic dubbing. And it's fine. 👌🏻but it's no Dimaggio of course, he's such a legend

theres a throw away gag where Farnsworth made a machine that translated speech into French and he identified it as a dead language. When Zap Brannigan is first introduced he pronounces Champagne incorrectly; however, if that gag could be taken as canon, French died out and no one could be certain how the word is spoken. Leela corrected him, though so it's just a head canon. also, when Fry becomes a billionaire and isolates himself to his new flat listening to 20th century music, theres the classic joke where Leela calls it classical music. remember the time Zap Brannigan sang Lola by the Kinks, but changed the name to Leela's? That was actually a thousand year pull into classical music that he altered to suit Leela personally. so yeah that's just stuff to think about
Think about this: They call Beastie Boys classical music in another episode and then a Star Trek movie plays Beastie Boys and they call it classical. A show that pulled heavily from Star Trek among many other sci-fi shows becomes inspiration for Star Trek.
Latin is a dead language, and we still have plenty of historical records on how it was pronounced. For instance, Macedonia is spelled with a C as the third letter because of Latin, that evolved to be incorrectly said as Massedonia, as C eventually evolved to sounding like an S. Both the Greeks and Slavs say it as Makkedonia (Μακεδονια in Greek, or Македония in Bulgarian and Macedonian). Most Latin-based words that use the C, had universally said it as a hard C the way we use K today. So words like percent, would really be said as perkent, and Caesar would really be said more like Kaiser. We also have the written word of Latin speakers expressing a preference for C to make a hard sound, as it does in words like cuprum (copper). Unlike Latin though, where we can only go by written records, if French becomes a dead language, we have recorded audio of what it sounded like for comparison.
